    Default Wristband signal systems available

This past fall or winter there was some discussion on here about the pros and cons of wristband signal systems. I always hated doing all of the hand signals, and it sometimes seemed like the opposing teams picked up better on what I wanted my players to do than they did! I also found that more and more college baseball and softball programs have been going with them over the recent years and, after the debate here, I decided to try it out with our very competitive 12-U team. One of the things I felt I needed to do was to simplify the college approach some, and ensure it would work smoothly and effectively for our team. After a few tweaks, I came up with an approach that our team caught on to very quickly, and the other coaches and girls loved it. We used it for hitting/baserunning, but it could easily be used for pitching/catching or defensive signals as well. Our head coach also adopted it for his high school team, and my daughter who plans to get into high school coaching this year agrees with me that it's far superior to the old hand signal systems and she plans to use one in the future as well. I know I never will go back to the old way!

There are "systems" out there that you can pay for, but my brief research on them is that they could be expensive, fairly complicated, and not very customizable to an individual team. Properly used, the signals are virtually impossible to steal. If there are any teams/coaches/organizations that are interested in this for next year, I am open to working with them to come up with something for the cost of the wristbands plus a relatively nominal fee to partially cover my time. If enough teams were interested, I am thinking I could reduce the cost some by buying the wristbands in larger quantities. As many teams could use this as wanted because we can customize it to each team, so no worries that if your rival does it too will they be able to steal your signals! If you're seriously interested, please PM me here or give me a call at 440-251-1584.

Coach, what will the 3rd baseman do now? I always loved 3rd baseman who looked at signs and knew exactly what next play will be.

Lol, Mike ... great point! And thanks for the info you had given me about the way you knew systems were being used. I believe your DD's high school team used them this year, right ... how do you think it worked?

Coach, they loved it and definitely no excuses for missed signs. I always loved seeing 3rd base coach pointing to second base for steal signs in high school. Good luck

Jeff did a great job with the Ice Black 12U wristbands and the girls quickly got acclimated to them. I would recommend them to any team interested for ease of signaling (giving and receiving) and for ease of adjustment if later in the season you want a different set of numbers than before. Thanks again Jeff it worked really well.

Thanks, Bill. Yes, actually the numbers can be changed out easily ... I would think most teams would want to change them a few times a season, but you could literally change them every inning if you wanted to.

What I've always wondered is how this system handles specialized signs? For example, a bunt down a certain baseline or a certain type of steal from first base in a first-third situation?

Joe ... just more combinations of numbers required the more different types of signs you want to have ... give me a call sometime if you want and I can show you what we did for our 12-U team, and what could be done differently if you wanted to add this level for say a college or elite 18-U team. I preferred to keep it simple for our girls, and would do so for high school ball as well, but you definitely can add more without much trouble ...

Missed signs. Howard Carrier has brought up some good points on this subject. I wonder how many of you coaches even know when a player has a learning
disability that plays for you? There are many kids that cannot pick up hands signs. They won't admit to it because many people and players give them that feeling that they are just dumb! Bustos went thru this when she was younger.

You could always call time to discuss the situation.
