Standout players??? Is that relatively speaking comparing them to other elite players from SUA, NDA, Clay, Bowsher?? I don't know, but I doubt it. I have no doubts that they have some good players but not in the "stand-out" category. I have not talked to my "old" friend Coach T for a few months. She was busy with personal business over the summer. I will drop her a line and see if she will give us the insdie dope. (oh oh, can I say the word "dope" on a softball forum???)

There is always a struggle for teams with public schools in an urban setting. It is difficult to find the commitment. I have no doubts that Coach T has done the the possible job that anyone could do and the results have shown. I also have heard of the frustrations from her and a number of other coaches. Unfortunately it seems like sometimes the adminiistration at the schools are not committed too. I did pretty well in math and the formula is:
Little commitment from players + Little commitment from school = Frustrations

:)
Will be WAite ING on the DOPE DUDE!!!
:p ::) ::) ::) ::) :-? ;)

Ex - Stop it! While I may have an opinion on different leagues and teams, you don't actually think I'd post it on this, or any other forum, do you? I've got enough work to do with my program. I certainly don't need a bullseye on our back because someone may interpret something I say wrong. Are you this way with FZ?

But to try to satisfy your quest for whatever it is you're looking for from me, here goes:

1) Everyone knows the NLL is an extremely strong and competitive league. While everyone has their favorites, I think it's fair to say that it's difficult to predict anything in the NLL and nothing will be shook out until the very end.

2) The Premier sounds like a great opportunity to scout the competition. I'll worry about next year, next year.

3) The NLL-TCL Challenge will be a lot of fun and undoubtedly create a lot of conversation about the players in both leagues and the direction of the various programs in each league. It's a great concept!

4) Regarding a playoff for the NLL or any league, obviously it's up to them. I think the TCL playoff adds a lot of excitement to the end of the season and gives more teams something to shoot for. Since the league champion is declared by who wins the tournament it kind of dilutes the regular season accomplishment, unless the same team wins both, of course.

The NLL is usually a brawl from beginning to end. I don't know that a league tournament would add anything to the excitement already generated by regular season league games. The make-up of the two leagues is totally different so I don't think what works for one league is necessarily the best for the other.

I dont think the NLL needs a tourney, they get to play each other twice as it is, the TCL due to the number of teams does not. So if SUA hosts clay in April and wins, Clay might get another crack at them in the TCL tourney. In the NLL if AW beats Springfield in April, Springfield gets another crack at them later in the year.

Either way, a tourney would be cool, but the NLL is an enjoyable league to watch.

Excar,
I just received a phone call from a ex-Northend Dad about your thoughts. ?
Trust me, I know that I don't take what you say as an insult and neither doess Norm. ?We do know the efforts that we put in trying to establish urban softball. ?While your thoughts sounds good, we have tried this and it did not work.
We went to the schools, we talked to the principals and administrators... we have tried talking to inner city churches. ?The interest and attitudes are not there, unfortunately. ?What it is going to take is a grass root movement from the people living in the communities to make it work. ?I can give you names of two North end umpires who also tried... they failed (I hate to phrase it as "failed"... they didn't succeed.). ?One of them went to the Boy's and Girls Club looking for support. ?There has been lots of efforts to do what you are advocating without success.
The ex-Northend Dad was telling me how he would practice with his DD's at Wilson Park only to have hoodlums chase them out of there. ?He was telling me how the City has closed down some fields because of bald eagles nest.... so now we are saying bald eagles are more important than our inner city youths!!!!!! ?His older daughter played on the Woodward varsity team...

p.s. ?I am not sure what A.S. is doing this summer.....that team has not been put together yet.

Uber, I would agree. The one thing I would like to see changed in the NLL is an outright champ. This isn't the Big Ten. There should be one champ, not co-champs. I don't want to share the title with Thunder. :)
