Any chance Bustos would come to NKU and play homerun derby. It would be a fundraiser for a kids charity ( any suggestions ) and would give some people/players a chance to see the greatest female hitter in the world. Any date in the summer would work.
Thank
p.s.
Dean you will be facing Bustos

I'd pay to watch!!!!! Chip, great idea.

I have to ask this question and i am not questioning the ability or strength of this particular girl, I am aware of this player and have seen her play.

My question is do you recomend that size of bat for most girls of her stature.
and how do you determin the size.
I am sure thit is done case by case
but what are your general guidelines

I look at hand path first and if in my opinion they are using a lead arm elbow making a good first move of about 2 to 4 inches and slotting the back elbow and clearing the body while keeping the hands above the plane of the pitch, I recommend using an end loaded bat. She is using a 34 inch RT currently however you see her path to the ball was around the ball instead of hands inside the path of the ball and she was choking up on the bat. Additionally there was no flex or bend at the knee at toe touch. We stopped her hitting and went to throwing and within 15 minutes she was throwing harder and her momentum was going forward and not to the left of center. We went back to hitting and it started to click so I asked her if she wanted to swing CB's personal bat just so she could feel a heavier bat and what her hand path would be. She did OK and then I let her use a 34 25 and she did even better.

I use a Swing Speed Radar unit to measure bat speed as it is Doppler radar and measures bat speed from the sweet part of the bat verses end or tip speed which can be as much as 10 to 15 % higher. By gauging before and after combined with hand path you can see what they are capable of....we want them to swing as heavy a bat as they can correctly. We want to take advantage of the f=ma and in her case if she continues to swing as she did yesterday she will have a great spring season in my opinion.

I went into this much detail since you say you know the player so you would understand what we changed and why.

She will be at River Shores May 22, 23 and she usually puts on a hitting display after we do our hitting clinic. This is a fund raiser for her team the Busto's Ultimate's so any money collected would go towards her team as a fund raiser in my opinion and she would probably do it at River Shores however I will talk to her.

We did this indoors in a cage at Evangel U. in Springfield, Missouri two weeks ago against a men's fast pitch pitcher and all I can say is thank God for L screens...I know he did also. She did this at the end of the clinic and usually does.

She is coming in at the end of the month and we are doing a clinic in Columbus so I will ask her. She is in negotiations I believe to play for the Akron Racers this season so we may see more of her in this area over the summer.

Les,

Us coaches will be competing...I expect big things from you. There will be paramedics on stand by for all our injuries...lol.

Sonny

Sonny,

I'm assuming you are pitching, if so, I'm glad you get to stand on the rubber so I can see you ...

No, we can let our 11U coach do the pitching part of the skills contest. We can let Coach Leonard do the hitting part...lol.

Quote from Hitter: You are welcome...we saw another one of your coaches at the WSU clinic and for a moment I thought it was you and he said just because we are both bald we look like twins.

Yeah he told me. There are a few bald Doom coaches running around. I'm the good lookin' one

Personally I find it hard to believe that againt a quality pitcher like the one we have at East Central that any high school girl will have success with that size of bat.

When a pitcher throws a ligit 61mph and has a knee buckling change you put yourself at a disadvantage by loosing bat control and that fraction of a second of bat speed.

Live pitching and hitting off of a t are alot different.

She was hitting off a tee,we did the low to high ball drill, the timing drop drill and one knee drill and I spent two hours with her and we made improvements. Coach you ask me what I saw and my opinion and anything I add or examples I could give you based on my experience may be construed as bragging etc so I will bow out at this point and lets see what happens. I like to think positive, if she practices what we showed her she will improve.

So you are saying that if I put up $100.00 and challenged every coach on this board to match that, she would not come to NKU and put on a show for us with the $ going to a
REAL charity.
I challenge everyone to put up $100.00 and the money go to the RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE for sick kids and their families

WHO WANTS TO STEP UP

Well this is amazing no one has anything to say (that is a first)
Is everyone waiting for Howard to reply.
I am torn between ripping everyone for not stepping up and begging you to get on board.
What a great act of kindness this could be from the softball community to kids that really could use help in a time of need

I would LOVE to see it happen, but in reality, let's think about how often anyone can just drop their schedule and make this happen. I'd bet on Howard doing what he can for charity's sake. My guess is the big guy may need some time or his previous response is all he knows right now. My 2 cents...

So... who's working at the soup kitchen this weekend now that charity is the driver...?

Lester.....
I would not know you If I seen you on the street.
But I will tell you it would be a BIG MISTAKE to start calling me out on time and energy spent when it comes to charity causes

Coach if you would like to see her come to the clinic we will be doing in May and then donate your money to who ever you choose and I will even get you an autograph....you are somehow very focused or obsessed with me so PM me and lets talk about hitting as there is some good information in this thread.

How do you teach your players to stay in the Big Zone as long as they can?

Len posted a thread on hitting. So those that want to change the subject to fit some personnel agenda need start a thread on whatever topic they want. Let's keep the subject on hitting so each of us can learn without the personnel stuff. The Akron Racer schedule is posted below and if Bustos is playing for them, it would look like she is going to somewhat tied up this summer.

coach McQueen, this is the first time and last time I'll address you on this subject....

I spoke (my intentions) in general terms and BY NO MEANS CALLED YOU out. My intentions are not for YOU to own a generalized comment. MY BAD for replying after you. If I'm calling someone out, I ALWAYS use their quote or name (and I know you don't know that) so please forgive my short sighted response. In my mind, no harm no foul. Let's move on.

First of all I am not obsessed with anyone (except maybe Martina Mcbride)
As far as the fundraiser I will skip on the 5 hr clinic and just donate my money

as far as the hitting here you go

first a godd load straight back no wrapp around
a straight line of force move to the pitcher with the front elbow
a slight shift in weight of the hips to the pitcher at to touch
then bringing the hands through on a path close to the body (inside the ball) while not letting the back elbow pass the hands (bat lag)
while kepping palm up palm down until after contact
and here is where you will have some fun
finishing high on a lower pitch and a LITTLE lower level on a higher pitch
and finaly having a finish with good balance in any sport it it hard to finish correctly and have bad mechanics
