I have to admit that most of this is foreign to me, but does a team have to state it's "home" area or locality? Couldn't teams put down that they are from the Cincy area or do they need a Cincy address?

Cincy teams are the ones that registered with the Cincy Metro. When teams register with ASA, they do it through an association based on where the majority of its players reside.

I see, thank you. I can see where this could be a problem. Most of the elite teams in the Cincinnati area are made up of girls from multiple southern Ohio cities. Do surrounding cities qualify?

As a state association, Ohio ASA, is a peer of the metro associations. They have no authority over the metros nor responsibility for them.

Region 9 covers all of Ohio. Regions have 2 main functions:
1. Classification: Regions have the authority to control how teams are classified in the region, including ammending the classification code of local associations to correct inequities.
2. Coordinate regional tournaments - HOF Qualifiers, Regional Qualifiers (closed) and National Qualifiers (open).

Note: Both Metros, Cincy and Dayton, barely had the 201 team registrations last year to get their berth this year. They might not have a berth next year if this year's registrations are any lower.

This is true! This was a topic for the whopping 5 or 6 coaches that actually showed up for the meeting this year. Sad.

Only a few SWO teams want the berth and quite honestly might actually be able to compete (speaking 12u only so hold your horses). I would guess John's Miller's DOOM 96 team (from his posts and wide history of going for the big dogs and doing so well) is in the hunt and not sure about the rest. I would imagine Kavin's 97 team will in there 2nd year at 14u and maybe Dan's 99 team next year might...

I too think they should open the Cincy Metro up to the state... winning the berth is important but beating less than stellar teams to do so isn't my way of preparing to meet up with the USA/ASA teams that are very strong. Does us no good to over rate ourselves by beating so-so to good teams when the Nationals has a ton of very good teams. I'm sure lesser teams get in too...

Association boundaries tend to go by county rather than city. I shouldn't have said "majority" - it's actually the association where the greatest number of players reside. Here is the applicable section of ASA Code (501.C.01):

Team Registration. A team must register with the local association in which the greatest number of its? players reside, and this number must be retained for the remainder of the season.

EXCEPTION: Teams in an adjoining county to a state or metro association may register with either the state or the metro association by mutual consent of the State/Metro Commissioner?s involved.

I believe there was a two or three day notice of the meeting or attendance probably would have been better. Attendance would also be better if it was scheduled before high school ball starts up.

Seems like the Commish was about as attentive to getting out the schedule for the meeting as she was for announcing the tournament.

John you are right...I should have made my point a little more vague... So few coaches could plan properly. My bad .

emailed Michelle... she said registration "is not looking good" and she will let us know how the Metro teams look as well.

y'all go for the jugular on a regular basis.

Not going for anyone's jugular, just making a statement based on information provided on this forum by those who seem to be in the know.

Some thing shouldn't be swept under the rug. If you are in position that your performance affects many others, especially children and families, you have to be accountable. I know you like me would want to be called out. It would make us better.

I will post as they come in- I thought the tourney got on the Ohio ASA web site months ago, but it didn't make it there.

While I do understand how late this is getting out, if you really want to go to the ASA Nationals, then you should play in the qualifiers.

Not a single post

Musty, you have my vote for the upcoming Presidential Election... if you fail at that... you should run for the Cincy ASA JO-Metro Commission position. You have my vote for that too. Musty, you da' man! :lmao:

Musty, when in office, to reinvigorate our economy, just simply bring back 20% of the jobs we've outsourced to China, India, Indonesia and other 3rd worlds and the rest will run like clock work. Sorry for the hi-jack!

I came here to find scores and post some bracket play... somehow it got hijacked...

Buckeye Heat 94s beat the Buckeye Heat 95s 9-1 and Championship Fastpitch 10-2. Playing Heart of Ohio Explosion for the ASA/USA berth. Currently waiting on umpires.

Good luck to both teams...

Hey Johnnies:

This thread isn't about 16u Region 9 and since it appears that the Region 9 tournaments that are the topic of the thread aren't going to be held because of the problems advertising the tournament, it's really not a hijack. :)
