It clearly states in the ASA rule book that a player can be rostered in two different divisions. Just not the same division. The only stipulation in the rule book is for pick up players which she is not. She is on our roster and has been all year. Bottom line, you got run ruled by a purely 12U team then did whatever you could to take that away from 12 year old girls. The players got punished for something they have no control over. Warren has yet to show us the code in the rule book that has been violated.
12U and 14U are Classifications within the Girls' Fast Pitch Division. It is spelled out in Article 306.

Article 306 DIVISIONS AND CLASSIFICATIONS OF CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY DEFINED.

A. The ASA recognizes the following divisions and classifications of championship play. Each local association shall establish a classification code to determine team and/or player classification for championship play in the following divisions:

DIVISIONS
CLASSIFICATIONS
28. Girls' Fast Pitch
18-Under GOLD
16-Under GOLD
Class A 18-Under
16-Under
14-Under
12-Under
10-Under
Class B 18-Under
16-Under
14-Under
12-Under
10-Under

Two questions:

1) Why was the team even permitted to play on Sunday if both their pool games were forfeits?
2) Did the player in question play on Sunday?

So, Anyhow...

Thunder Elite 03 went 5-1 in the Perfect Storm PGF in Youngstown. We were a #1 seed but had a challenging path to the finals that fell short. I want to thank all 51 teams, 10u thru 18u, that came to our tournament.

W--Blast 04, 12-1
W--Valley Rage (pa) 14-0
W--Ohio Attack 03, 7-2
W--Lady Lookouts 04, 10-2
W--Wolfpack 04, 6-5
L--Blast 03 11-4

We are off this week as we prepare for Laser Nation.

Thanks,

Joe Nay

I was not present for the protest so I can't speak to the first question. As far as question number 2, the player did not play the last 5 games. So she did not play in the last pool game or bracket play on Sunday. Julie did not coach in those games either. She was present from time to time, but did not coach.

Okay folks. Let me put an end to the gossip. My daughter has played her age and up one year since she was 9 years old. I have coached both her teams for 4 straight years. Not once was I ever told she could not play on both teams in ASA qualifying play. The ONLY thing I have been told is she could not play in two ASA national events regardless of age group in a single season. For that reason, I have elected to put my two teams in different sanctioned nationals every year. I was told this weekend that my daughter cannot play up in ASA qualifying tournaments although section code 301 says she can (this does not include ASA invitationals or ASA friendlies). I will respect and abide by this decision. However, I will not sit idle and allow folks to misrepresent the situation or question my integrity or my daughter?s. I have the utmost respect for the rules and ASA governing bodies. I have poured my heart and soul into this sport and give back to it every day. I coach two incredible teams who practice year round and play year round. Their year round dedication is why they are who they are. It was a misunderstanding for goodness sakes. In addition, neither of my teams even need a berth. We played this particular tournament for fun and because it has always been a great venue. Bill and Mendy have done a nice job in years past and as a result have earned our repeat business. As for the comments about why we didn?t play the Metro...it is because the Metro split their 12u and 14U dates this year, so it made it difficult for me logistically because I coach both teams. We are not afraid of competition and anyone who knows me or my teams gets that. We travel throughout the Midwest and Southeast to ensure we play great teams. Lastly, my teams are not in it for trophies and I do not coach with a win at all cost mentality. We are in it to get our girls college scholarships. That is our only goal. As a former multi-sport collegiate athlete, I know what a life changing experience playing in college can be. I want this for my girls. So, let?s stop the bantering and enjoy the rest of the day. We all have 12 and 14 year-old girls who just want to play softball for the pure love of the game!

Sincerely,

Julie (Cincy Slammers)

P.S. No my daughter did not play Sunday and I wasn't even present for the phone protest with the ASA director to even ask about section code 301.

Fantastic response, definitely helps for clarification to get all sides of the story. I was at the tournament and had heard a few different things, all in all it sounds to me as if there has been some confusion/misinterpretation of rules and the situation at hand. Good luck to your teams in the future Julie.

Agreed and absolutely ridiculous that she even needs to defend herself. To a person, everyone comes on here and brags about "doing it for the girls" and this is the actions some take. This coach is clearly trying find her daughter the best competition yet some coaches like to act like children and protest development.
What was gained by going to the TD and getting these games thrown out? Oh I know, its teaching the girls right and wrong. Unfortunately, the Kaos coach taught the wrong message on this one.

I honestly do not know who is the best team in Ohio is at 12u. I think there are multiple teams that could make this claim. The last three weeks have been wars if you count the Akron friendlies. We all have beaten each other at one point or another. Again, each week we could see a different champion.

I will add that Julie (Slammers) is one of my favorite coaches. In fact, if I had to choose another coach or program that I would want my own daughter to play for it would be her team. This is the ultimate compliment. Julie runs an elite program. I have nothing but respect for her and her players.

Nice post.....to bad it had to be made in the first place insinuation and rumors are just that and too many people get caught up in the fact that they very rarely know all the facts behind a situation, or that they hear these facts from second or even third person accounts. Well said and see you at the Outlaws tourney in 2 weeks.

Sean, you are spot on. I think most of the coaches at 12U, specifically the 03 class, would echo that same sediment. BTW you guys look very good this weekend! Your team really has some great bats!

Lasers Black finished runners up in the Memorial Day Madness tournament in Chambersburg, PA. Ran out of gas in the championship game and lost to an extremely talented Jersey Outlaws team. 2nd place out of 76 teams from 8 different states...not a bad weekend. Finished 9-1. Saw some great competition and had a blast!!
Next up, NKY Bandits Bash in Hebron, KY next weekend.
