Just a shoutout to all the coaches out there...

Give the TD's a break and if you aren't going to be able to field a team perhaps you can tell the TD before the Schedule is published.

When you drop out after the schedule is posted, not only does the TD have redo the schedule for the entire age group and get the new one published but the teams are now left with fewer games or holes in their schedules or travel to alternate fields to find competition. Furthermore the players that are coming and have already contacted college coaches or their grandparents to let them know when their games are to be played and where have to go through the process all over again.

A lot of people are inconvenienced by your late drop-out. If you are having trouble fielding a team please let the TD know 7 to 10 days before hand so that they have a chance of doing the schedule right, once. Three days before the Tournament doesn't allow anyone enough time to adjust to the new schedule.

Totally agree with you Fairman except for the Dayton Metro or any other tournament going on this weekend that is 14u to 18u. Some coaches do not know until a day or two before the start of the tournament due to high school tournament. Everyone should know that by now and there is nothing you can do about it. It is what it is for this weekend only. Same every year

If we committed to be there we were there but, we had a roster of 13 during 16/18U. Now, in some events we may not have been up at 100% but we were there and gave it our all.

We were fortunate to have never had to pull out of a tournament but with that said, we did come close a couple times.
We were able to work things out with our TD between our sister teams in one event and in one showcase event in Chattanooga TN we lost several players to injury and two of our last three opponents lent us a player so everyone had a chance to play.
If you work generally you can find a solution.

This time of year yeah HS ball is still in the playoffs but this early in the summer season most teams are playing in state so they should have players available to fill in if needed.

I think a lot of teams look at their players and which high schools they attend and the possibility of their team going deep and then decide whether or not to schedule an early season tournament. It is a very tough call for sure.

Yes and No...

If a coach/team has a lot of girls from one HS team that has a track record of going deep in the playoffs the solution is simple..don't schedule the first week of June play a friendly or practice...

If you find out you may be missing one or two and the coach does not feel their team is deep enough to compete drop out 7-10 days "before' the event so you do not screw other teams or the TD.
Yeah, it will piss off your parents but that is why we have the 7Ps..

My initial post was due to a pair of 14U teams dropping out and just putting the entire bracket into chaos.
Those teams were not in a high school playoff and had to know that they were questionable well before they told us.

At the same time, at least they told us. Teams that just don't show up; the coach should be banned from softball.
Nothing worse than sitting at a field with one team ready to go, a pair of umpires and no opponent, usually for the first game of the day.

This weekend doesn't take much to throw things off for a team. Have two in playoffs, one taking finals, and one injured and now your team of 12 in the fall stands at 8 and you are looking for Friday subs at a minimum.

We hosted a tournament last weekend and not only did a team drop out they never even bothered to call to say they were not coming. The other team was standing on the field ready to compete and nobody to play. This is the second tournament this has happen to me. Once in the fall we played in and last weekend. At least have the courtesy to let the TD know.

Having at least a 50% non refundable deposit weeds out the tournament tire kickers. If they pay and no show at least you got something for you time. As for the team left with no one to play, usually you can find a team willing to pick up an extra pool game.

It actually worked out b/c we had an odd number of teams in the pool and when they dropped it evened things up. Thanks snowman for the idea on the deposit. You can bet it will be in the rules for next year.

I'd keep the whole blasted entry fee of a no show team (maybe give it to the team that did show up) but refund some of it if they let you know say a week before hand. I'd also make sure that every TD in the world knew about a no show team, coach and organization; that has to be the height of rudeness.....

I see you had a quite a few at IUP this weekend. I get why you're frustrated.

At IUP/I(C)SST
The weather pushed the WPIAL finals back to Friday and that not only affected a number of teams but some umpires as well. We were scrambling to accommodate all those teams as best we could up through a final schedule issued on Thursday afternoon. The result was that everyone had an opponent to play. We were able to add some games Saturday evening under the lights to accommodate those games until the rain gods decided we had played enough for one day.
