Ohio Black Sox tryouts are FREE!!! Heck, I even provide Gatorade!:D
To charge for a tryout is absurd. And if its to keep out certain players.... Just be happy kids are interested in your organization! Don't be that smug and arrogant to feel the need to charge to tryout.
Give them their shot, look their folks in the eye, tell them your sorry but its not going to work out and wish them luck!

Does this org even exist this year ? or they a start up ? If they do exist this year what smashing success have they had to even attempt to draw out the " serious , committed players " ? Are they serious and committed yet as an organization ? Should I look for them at the Rays event ?
This is year 4, but we were under a baseball program for the first 3. I was able to get some corporate sponsors to make it all non profit and changed the name. we had a PGF appearance at Nationals 2 years ago. We have did decent in ASA Nationals with a few teams. Its hard to build a porgram when it is flooded. This year was our best year. I have been involved in softball before the Lasers existed. My experience with try outs ::: I have seen so many players come to try out and have no intention on playing on the team. I have had multiple, more than 10 times coaches bring their kids only to talk to parents that have brought their kids to our try outs. They have been head coaches from other organizations. We are no where near the big programs right now. But we are building to compete with the best. WE offered a community service program this year which was awesome!! I had to go out and get sponsors to play back in the day. I learned a lot with that. If i wanted to play I had to earn the money. Back when only one team qualified for ASA Nationals and NSA Nationals. I wanted to bring back. so each girl had the opportunity to earn 10 per hour up to 400$ for doing community service. It was great team building as well. It cut off 400 for team fees if they did the full 40. Might not be able to do the full 400 but it will still be available to help.. It takes at least 7 years to make a name. I take 0 money for running it and do 3 months os skill building drills during the winter which is included!! I learned form some of the best softball instructors. Everyone is trying to catch the big dogs. Ernie Parker out of cali, George Duhon and Dan Greathouse as well as Tracy Bunge ( Rebellion) were some of my coaches. plus my dad and Ed Beavers out of Chanpion. I love what I do empowering young ladies .

They haven’t had any success. I researched them. They finished 2nd in a tournament that had 3 teams...and they had to win 1 game to get to the ship...lol!

As well as NOT one of these Coaches or the head of the Buckeye Charge get "a cut" as one person posted for coaching OR running this organization. It ALL goes back to the players. What is the difference between charging a small $10 fee for a tryout vs a team hosting a tournament and making everyone pay when they walk in the park to watch?
Make your kid take it out of their allowance LOL. Oh I forgot we are in that era where everything is handed to them!
To the Head of the BUCKEYE CHARGE,
Your passion for the game and the love of these players is why we are with you! Don't let people who are knew to this game deter you in what you are doing and where your goal is headed.

This is exactly what breaks my heart! honestly, If any of you knew me and my dedication to womens softball for my whole life, maybe you wouldnt be so quick to judge. i am a tough cookie but i am about in tears. i have dedicated my whole life to my pitchers and athletes. taking time away from my family to help the game of softball. to be called arrogant and smug among other things is very sad to me. I do not take any profit from my program and donate 3 months to train the girls with kettlebells, nutrtion
, fitness and skill sets. I do it all for the girls. i have had much success in my career that some players dream of. I want that for them as well. I want girls who come to try outs because they want what I can offer them.. I dont want coaches from other programs bringing their daughters and try to pull players from my try outs. That is the truth. I have seen it for years now.and now I am on a website with people who might not know anything about me, my reputation and dedication. and want to be just plain mean... I am in this for only the right reasons.

One website buddy. I suppose you don't view the ASA website, tourney machine etc. I have no idea which of the 11 teams in the organization you are talking about either. But I'm curious... you haven't mentioned who your daughter plays for?!

I’m confused...this was a question posed about tryout “ fees “ by the “ Buckeye Charge “....how did the “ Lady Lookouts “ became the focus and how did the “ Lady Lookouts “ individual be offended to the “ point of tears “?....as for the community service aspect of having players give back to the community, that’s great!....but what does that have to do with charging families to tryout????

By the way if the “ Lady Lookouts “ individual on this thread is the “ AB “ I think she is I will back her up regarding her dedication to the sport and the girls as well as her knowledge of the game being first rate...I would allow my daughter to play for her anytime anywhere ....as I said my question was pertaining to “ Buckeye Charge “....

Because Lady lookouts is my user name. I have had a program going on year 4. I was under a baseball program and didnt like how it was run above me, so I kept all my coaches, got a corporate sponsor ( community service ) and changed the name to represent my travel team and my sisters from back in the day. I have seen players come to tryouts and have no interest playing for my program, I have had other head coaches from different programs come to tryouts with their daughters to pull players to play for them. I want girls who want to be a part of what I do, not waste all our time with no interest in playing for us. HOpe that answers it. If you make it, it goes to team fees.

This is an easy fix , admit the tryout fees are a bad idea , and carry on with your good work. I'm an old timer as well . No need to try to blow smoke up my rear with explanations that dont pertain to the try out fees . You seem like a person whose heart is in the right place , drop the idea of tryout fees ( before you hold a tryout with nearly no one there ) and continue trying to build an Org .. its a jungle out there , good luck .

So because you know who it is now does that change your thought on charging for a tryout fee? I'm aware of what she does with CS and the correlation is that if she is lowering costs to play by a couple of hundred dollars per player why is it a big deal to charge $10?

Just a thought but just because you played the game doesnt make you or anyone a good coach or organizer . If playing the game was a prerequisite many a good male coach would be left out in the cold . LL you seem to have your mind made up even though the large majority thinks its a poor idea . Softball world is big enough for many views , we will see how yours plays out .

Jodi: My thoughts are I do not like the “ fee “ for trying out...however I do like the idea of community service to lower the fees and in my mind there is a difference...as for who she is, I know for a fact that none of us have had the overall success as a player in this game nor can any of us actually question her dedication to the game and the players/parents ....I may disagree with the “ fee “ for a tryout but to me she remains a quality individual ....
