You know when I read Donny's post I took it to mean that they beat them out for 1st place overall, not head to head. I consider him a good friend and I can tell you he respects the game, the teams, and most of all the girls.

omg, I'm rethinking the commitment that Ted and I have to take up a 10U team after Buckeye Heat 95 is done playing travel ball. These recent 10u threads (and one 12u thread, for that matter) are just way over the top.

It's not that the factual points shouldn't be made or allowed on this forum. It's that the accusations are so emotionally-laden and go on and on and on with stuff that is either incredibly murky or that can't be proved one way or another.

If you want to make the point that the Tourney Director was wrong when he stated that HOO beat four of the top 10 in the polls (and it appears that he was wrong), just state that plain and simply. "HOO didn't play Xtreme and Buckeye Heat due to the pool play structure. HOO did, however, win the tournament and congrats to them on achieving what Xtreme and Buckeye Heat did not." End of discussion.

You guys in 10U are going to have a long season if this stuff keeps up. More important, however, is what you are doing to negatively affect the future recruiting opportunities for your teams. Who wants to be associated with a team that generates such drama on a public forum?

This is not aimed singly at any one poster. I just think many of the 10u and 12u posters are verging on way out of control.

When I took my local 9u Olentangy Lightning team to the Marion Diamond friendly last weekend for our first scrimmage/game and I got there and saw parents yelling (not in a bad way), players chanting cheers and from time to time competitive juices flowing my wife turns to me and says - "You ready for this all over again?" My response was - "Sure, I am a lot smarter now than I was the first time around"

My advice to everyone, the summers are a lot more fun if you work to create friendly rivals vs hated adversaries.

THANK You!!!!!!! Your right!!! Sometimes when we read stuff like this we lose track of why we do it...NOT for the parents and coaches, we do this for the girls. Thanks Mike for reminding me!

You indeed did that in your previous coaching role and I would like to think that many of us participated similarly. Viewing what is going on in some other age groups (and I'll always consider Lasers Black, Cincy Doom 96, and Lasers Gold as part of our age group, whatever the "odd age" situation), I'd say the 95 and 96 ranks are blessed by an atmosphere of mutual respect.

CGS,
I bet it gets there with the mutual respect you mention. We are just new to the game, unlike the older groups/ teams. I am just now getting to learn all of the coaches names here in SW ohio, let alone all of the girls.

Another thing that is somewhat humorous to me (being such a seasoned 13U coach now) is that we always used to look at the pool play to see if we had a good draw or a bad draw. We always wanted teams we could beat to try and win that coveted trophy. Now, a bad draw is teams you should beat, and a good draw is teams that are as good or better than you so you get to test yourself. Funny how priorities change in a few short years.

Good luck to all you 10U parents and coaches. Enjoy the ride!

Amen to that Tod! First thing I thought when I say we drew the Lasers Grey and Buckeye Heat 98 in the DangerZone was awesome, can't wait to play. Our girls have been talking about the pp for two weeks...

And...I had a TD call me about a pp bracket apologizing that we drew some of the younger/weaker teams in his tourney once.. funny how things change.

Although the 8am Lasers game time stinks .. that is 10u stuff... LOL!

Doug,

No doubt. We get to knock heads with the Ice, and the Static 14's. Can't wait. The Ice beat us up last year a couple times, so hopefully we'll be able to hang with them this year.

Good luck - I'll see you there.

How many dingers are going to be hit with 180/190? How about the 155 in right? We play on that field a couple times.

Not about hardware at all!!! Nor do we claim to be the best we just want to play the teams that everyone says is the best!!! Thats why we support what jeff does with the polls... We prefer a pool with all great teams!! Thats why we all try to play the top tournys in hopes of facing better comp.. I think some mis understood my post earlier... Had nothing to do with bracketing and should of been handled through PM's.. I hav no hard feelings toward any ofc'r...:) Consider it lesson learned...

GSG, you are so right about the negative publicity. And Tangy you are right about building the rivals. My favorite part of last year was watching the girls battle for an hour and a half on the field against Laser Purple then sit down with them on a blanket under a shade tree and share a bite to eat. These games/seasons go fast but the friendships can last a life time.

Tod, I feel bad for the coaches that live and die by the number of $1.95 trophies they collect. If you want the girls to develop the skills needed to advance on to HS or College they have to be tested often.

Yea, that will be fun to watch .. I am glad Paul set it up that way.. we will have temp fences at the Metro at 200 all the way around .. that should result in some great action...

Good luck, I am sure we will get over there to see you guys play...

Where is everyone playing this weekend?
Thunder Elite is at the Jaguars ASA ENQ. 12 teams total. PC Pride, #1 team in Mich is there.

I want to see the team that beats that PC Pride team.

They are hands down the best 10U team I have ever seen in person. And I watched the Team Michigan 10U last year many times (they won I think the National Pony Tournament). And I went to NSA Worlds last year.

They have it all. Size, multiple pitchers, hitting, defense. They actually just won a USSSA 12U B tournament up in MIchigan. They are the only team that I can say pretty confidently has a girl bringing it about 50 consistently. And I think they may have 2.........that team is awesome.

Also- 10U parents are way over the top.............12U parents are very edgy.......it seems not until 14U do most parents learn to chill. The only reason I am coaching our 9U is that the other Dads that want to coahc are WAY too jacked up to coach. But I am hoping they will all chill as the year progresses. Most have older daughters playing travel. So they should be getting better.

We played PC Pride 3 times last season. Beat them twice. Coach Dan and his staff are top notch coaches. I am sure their # 1 is flat out bringing the heat. She was very good as a 9yr old. They finished 3rd at USSSA Nats last yr. As far as team Mich goes, played them as well last season at Lasers. We beat them in a great game. They had 2 girls throwing 50plus. Lucky for us at 10u this yr, one pitcher decided to move up to 12u as a 10 yr old. I can't wait to see PC Pride this weekend.

The trophy hunting is a good point, my oldest is a '92 and this year I am coaching a 10U rec ball team and a 2001 travel team. During the rec season one of the teams had to pick up one of the top 10U pitchers in NWO. The kid lived in the community etc., the pick up was legal, teams started to complain that they shouldnt be allowed to pick the kid up with no basis for the argument, they just wanted a better chance to win the rec ball tournament. I know the coach and called her and asked her to throw the stud against my team in the tournament, we would like the challenge. My team was all excited to see this kid pitch and see how they did against her. Rain ruined it, but I promise my mind set was not the same 10 years ago.

Again, I think those of us that have been through it need to cut those new parents in the shark tank a break. They will learn, and in about 4 years will be reading these polls laughing with the rest of us.

I saw him get thrown out of a tournament. The umpire gave him a count of 20 to be out of his sight or his team would have to forfeit.........

What is funny to me is that I think they are husband/wife. And she is pretty chilled out. But he is a monster. He is still at it in the 12U ranks. An all time classic screamer..........I do not know how the parents can stand the abuse he rains down on the girls.
