Coaches,
What number of strikeouts would be considered a good season for a first year 10U pitcher? Playing against both A & B level teams. Total of 8 tournaments. She will be in her last year of 10U next season. Any information is appreciated.

I'm not a coach but have a 14u pitcher. I would think 4-5 strikeouts a game is great, 2-3 is good. But I would also focus on how many hits/walks is she giving up a game. My dd would sometimes put up 8 ks but would have 6 walks. Which isn't very productive.

What I would watch is WHIP and ERA. WHIP is a calculation walks + hits / by innings pitched. Under 1.5 is good under 1 is outstanding. ERA the same. <1 is outstanding... but under 2 is also pretty darn good. You can have strike outs all day long but if you give up hits and walks your just not effective.

100% agree with WOW!!!! I would pay more attention to the WHIP and ERA. Let them put the ball in play and rely on the defense. Strikeouts will come but most importantly give up as few walks as possible.
