10U Preseason poll

Help me ... what am I missing?

You're not missing anything. At these younger age groups, the parents just seem to be wrapped overly tight. As they progress through the system, they will begin to relax some (hopefully).

Lol, Warren ... you said what I meant, just a lot shorter!

Diamond Dust ... thanks though I parented and coached 4 kids of my own all the way into college, and I just never experienced and would have never even envisioned that we'd have so many people interested in and debating about the "ranking" of such young teams. At that age, all I care about is that my kids/teams are learning and enjoying the game ... not if they're #1 or in the Top 10, let alone in the preseason.

I can remember last year, there were alot of 10u preseason battlecries between northern teams and southern teams only because some teams had not crossed paths during indoor tourneys and friendlys. The chest thumping settled down when the teams moved outside and away from home to play. Still chatter , but minimal! I think your right Diamond dust! Maybe someone out there can help me .There was a saying, it went something like this ...At 10u the parents are up close and cheering for the team, at 12u they move down to the outfield lines and cheer for their DD at 14u they move to the outfield fence and watch the game at 16u they talk about the new grille they bought and where they are going on vacation, and only watch when their DD is up to bat. OILER did a nice job last year ,didnt hear much complainig about the top 3 or 4 in the poll but their were teams in the top 10 that you couldnt take lightly. Goodluck to the 10u teams this year, I will definitely be checkin out some of the teams mentioned.

I guess an ongoing poll will be interesting, and I am sure there be some good "popcorn moments" before Bear eventually has to close the thread, but I just don't get it. 220+ posts for a preseason poll for 10-U's? I'm not sure a preseason pool on NCAA football could get as many posts. Interestingly, there have only been 18 posts re: 14-U, even though there are more girls playing at that age level.

On the one hand, it's great that there's so much interest, but on the other hand it seems like a lot of chest thumping by adults over 10 year olds. I am "addicted" and consider myself serious about Ohio softball, but I just can't get serious about these kinds of polls, especially in the preseason. Help me ... what am I missing?

10u parents arent tired of talking about softball, there are a lot of nOOb parents at this level. Never forget coach you can always tell what age level is playing based on the number of parents behind the backstop. Same thing on OFC. It was interesting to leave my oldest in the semi finals of the winners bracket at 18u nationals to go coach my 9u team at the Midwest all sanctioned world series. My teams parents were great and we had fun but to see how upset other teams parents got on mistakes was funny, 18u the parents cheered good plays by both teams and chuckled at mistakes. While I seen some 10u moms on the verge of tears lol.

I think its just because we are all suffering from February "blahs" and can't wait to get out on the dirt! I know I get that excitement from the girls...and I own both a 14u player and a 10u!

I bet there would only be twelve posts if it was warm outside...LOL

Sally's mom couldn't make to the GPlex this past weekend. I know the scores and who won but can any of the fans or coaches shed some light on how these teams portrayed themselves?

Diamond, we were up there and it was our first tournament at the GPlex and the girls and parents had a great team. All of the teams, parents, and girls had great sportsmanship. Overall it was a very good experience. We noticed one team, Valley Xtreme, pretty early because their girls never seemed to stop smiling and our girls thought that was great. Hope that helps!

My Dr.Phil segmant on this since Ive been thru this and now in my second time around with our youngest dd.

Yeah it is bad at 10u, why because we parents are pumping our chest out because our little dd is no longer doing rec ball and we take credit for the wins because our dd is all that. Many dads and moms living thru their little 8 to 10 year olds. Rec ball is so beneath the travel parent since just leaving that nest a few weeks to months ago.

It does lighten up a tad at 12u age and alot more at 14u. I think parents and most coaches (not all) finally get it after a couple years. Heck people I didnt care for much and I thought was a pain in the butt I am good friends with now and much easier to talk softball and other stuff with. Who would of thunk it.

At 16u it is now easy to sit back and relax more. We as parents get it now and dd is getting the college exposure and offers we hoped for (or close to is). Now it is actually fun to watch the games and not get worked up.

My youngest is at her 3rd year of 10u ball (started early) and yes I see the same thing with parents and coaches. Some are really overboard with this. Now I can sit back and watch some of this crazy stuff and just snicker and actually keep to myself. I dont argue or get worked up as much as I use to. Couple of years that top 10 rankings here on this site got me worked up because our team (and daughter) should be #1 not that team, or should be ranked higher, ect.............

At 10u it will always be this way, alot with new parents and coaches, just the nature of the beast. It will get better each step up in age. But some parents and coaches do not change unfortanetly no matter what age group, just the way it is.

Believe me I was one of those crazy parents whom stepped on a couple toes myself. Made good and apoligized later on with them and wondered what the heck was I doing.
Now this game is more fun to watch for me since I learned to take that back seat.

Again just my thoughts at 11pm at night. I do love 10u ball and it is fun at this age for the most part. It is the beginning of a wonderful career for my little one and watch her grow as a parent.

This may be interesting now that most of this 10u teams are now true 12s, how many of these teams are still together??? And will these top teams still be on top at 12s???
