I will get to see many of these top teams in action at Garrettsville this upcoming weekend as our team will be there. Should be fun to watch.

I watched a few games this past Sunday at the Gplex. I saw good pitching but not overpowering pitching. In my opinion, with out gunning any of these girls, I bet only 1 pitcher hit 50mph this weekend. I would say 45-47mph for the most part out of the top 4 teams #1 pitchers that I saw. JMHO

Which team had a girl that threw 50 in your opinion. I am not sure but I would think 45-47 would be impressive at this age. Also did you notice how many different pitches these girls were throwing?

Was this speed clocked with Radar or just someone's professional assumption. I watched Ice and Grand Slam scrimmage and didn't see 50 mph. Grand Slam had a girl blowing it by but I doubt it was 50 or higher. Just curious if radar was used.

What is your back ground as to say they were not throwing 50

I didn't gun any of the pitchers on Sunday. I had it in the Truck. I just didnt want to cause a scene by standing behind the netting and clocking the pitchers. The mph comments I made are just my opinion. I have heard many great things about the pitchers for Grand Slam. I am very excited to see that team play.

I wish I could understand how all this matters so much at 10u. These kids will all change. The real fast kids may not grow. How about control? I am sure that if some of our girls see an actual 50+ they will be scared stiff.

I have heard so many Dads say there daughters are pitching 48,49 , or even 50 and when you put a gun on them it's more like 44,45, or 46. At 35 feet 44 looks fast but it's still 44. Plus by the time due to pitcher stride it's more like 30 feet. I am not trying to discredit any of these girls. I am just reiterating that if these girls are throwing 50 plus that's amazing for a 10 year old.

I was told that the ice pitcher in question walked only 1 batter in the championship game, that to me is the amazing thing for a ten year old.

From reading this thread, you would think the first 10u poll mattered ; Well... it does, it just depends on who you are talking to about it. The coaches use it to guage their teams performance against higher ranked teams (not all coaches) , TD's use it to balance pool play (not all TD's), parents like to take a peak at these top poll teams at tourneys when they are on a field near their dd's team or might be playin before their game even if a younger age group ,(not all parents) .This is a great thread because it gets people crazy, and then their are those people that try to play it down . I remember telling my 9u dd that i wanted to go see a 14u team that was #1 in the polls and if she wanted to come with me? she asked how did I know they were #1? ; I said I read it on a website, and she said , who says their #1? I paused and thought, where is this conversation going? Then she said ; Dad you told me not to believe stuff just because its on the internet! I gave her money and said get some candy and told her I will be right here watching the game! (10 u kids dont care. Lol!) My advice to all in 10U , ENJOY THE RIDE!

Seams like there are always a couple of kids who can legitimately throw 50 at 10u, but not nearly as many as claim to. It is impressive to see and will scare off most hitters at 10U. When we were in 10u, AP & KK could do it. The next year of 10U - RP, CV, and a few others could. There are always a few. Don't underestimate some of the young ones.

By 11u most teams have 1 or 2 pitchers who can throw that fast.

This one I can certainly agree with. I will say though that if know my kid will be able to hit 50+ at that level... she won't be at that level. Seems a waste to plow thought 90+% to find a good game. Or have to play the same 3 teams all summer long!

In my opinion, you would want your kid to stay at her own age at 10u if she is throwing 48-50. Most likely your kid isn't throwing 48-50 when there is a batter in the box and may have some control issues if they are. So let your kid get some experience in the circle to try to get some control. There are a few that can throw hard with great control though. But if your kid is throwing that hard, she must be working hard during the week and at the games on the weekends. By nationals 10u year, they should be throwing hard with control. ASA Nats you will see all the pitchers throwing 48-52 on every team at 10u. 2-3 pitchers on the same team for that matter. I wouldn't consider moving up a good pitcher until after her 11u year, JMHO.

I understand what youu are saying but you changed the scenario. She can either pitch that speed or not. Practice is practice. This may be the root of all the debate. Who really cares what the dad on the bucket or instructor says their kid throws at home? Most of the top end girls have the control and a good off speed pitch. 50+ would make them easily able to move up and compete and develop. I would rather get an extra year at 14 or 16u than lay waste to everyone week in and week out for a trophy. No offense we all look at things differently.
