Just to let you know, the girl you are talking about just started pitching in oct. That was the first full game she ever pitched.

I understand what youu are saying but you changed the scenario. She can either pitch that speed or not. Practice is practice. This may be the root of all the debate. Who really cares what the dad on the bucket or instructor says their kid throws at home? Most of the top end girls have the control and a good off speed pitch. 50+ would make them easily able to move up and compete and develop. I would rather get an extra year at 14 or 16u than lay waste to everyone week in and week out for a trophy. No offense we all look at things differently.

50+ would not make them easily able to move up and compete and develop. Atleast in my experience with my kid it wasnt. Yours might be the exception, but you have to realize 10u's are throwing a smaller ball and 5ft closer to the plate. When you move up to the bigger ball and 40ft, you lose 1-2 mph maybe more. My kid threw 50+ as a 10u and lost a few mph in the fall of 11u. She gained it back by spring throwing 52-53 as an 11u by summer. I just think let them get the confidence and control within their age group at 11u. If they are the real deal (which there are some out there) let them skip their 12u year and move up to 13u (which my kid did not cuz she is not the real deal and needs some work.).

Sorry if you took it the wrong way. I have no clue who you mean. I was making a general statement. I really was speaking hypothetically based on a comment not a kid.

Point well taken. Want to make it clear I was not implying I have a kid that can or will! Wishful though...I was only expressing that I don't think most people grasp how fast that is at that age.

The pre-season poll has 17 pages, which shows a lot of interest, but I look at the tournaments that we have entered and although we are from PA and playing 5 in PA, we are playing 6 in OH. There doesn't seem to be many teams in the tournaments we have enterd with a couple exceptions. My question is with all this interest, where in the heck are all of you teams playing this year?

Side note, I like the polls. They are informational and entertaining at the same time. I think we can all agree that in "most" cases the good teams are on the top of the pool. The entertaining part is the votes for the teams that we have seen/played that do NOT belong on the poll and you just know they voted for themselves. I like the poll to somewhat scout a "teams" ability if I will be playing them for the first time and have never seen them play. If they are in the top and the chatter is that they just pound the ball, well then I hope for rain LOL.

To all 10U teams, Best of luck this year and I look forward to meeting a lot of managers that I have spoke with over the phone or will be seeing for the first time as we venture down to Columbus 2 times this year to play some new teams.

Here's a sanity check. We have 17 pages and in actuality, there has not been an actual vote! What we do have are pre-season predictions from three people who aren't eligible to vote.

Lasers 01 (now banned)
Mantle 07 - says isn't affiliated with any organization
Oiler Pride - probably the most informed and objective opinion, but not coaching 10u this year.

I have to say this has been an entertaining thread if nothing else.

As far as who runs the 10U poll, I would prefer an unbiased third party such as Jeff Steiner of the Thunder Elite 11U, and only then if complete privacy were in place. I am not at ease sending a ballot to another 10U coach who may use it as bulletin board material later in the summer...lol.

I think Jeff already accepted the nomination. I have enough on my plate!

Bottom line its 10u and for entertainment purposes. A 10u rec team with a stud pitcher could beat the best on the list in a single game.

I have and will run the 10U poll this season. I was thinking we would have the 1st of TWO preseason polls after next weekends 10U Gplex Tourny. At that point many of the 10U teams would have been seen at some point between last fall and this winter. At least enough to have a starting point for a Pre-Season 10U Poll.

I think this is a crazy statement!! Anyone that has seen some of the top 2-3 10U teams in the state the past 3 years would know that these teams would put balls in play, get on base and score a few runs against a REC Ball Defense with a Stud Pitcher.

I kind of disagree with that. Sure the "on any given day rule" applies to every game played at every level but generally speaking what happens is the Rec ball team with the stud pitcher defense isn't accustomed to having to make plays. The pitcher pitches well enough to win but as the errors and lack of communication piles up the rec team starts to come off the rails. Team defense issues are hard to spot for a coach when your pitcher is striking out 18 batters a game. Its really just a matter of experience, you see the same exact thing out of travel teams with great pitchers. As soon as they leave their area and face a teams that can put the ball in play they struggle. Their coaches concentrate on offense so much and without much game "gear" works defensive practice they struggle.

So due to experience, lack of coachable defensive game moments and not having your weaknesses exposed to the coach I don't see a rec team beating a top 10 team on a consistent basis. A community team that plays travel ball can, but their not a rec team.

I almost commented last night when I saw that but decided to let it go (guess that was a momentarly lapse LOL).

Bottom line the top teams in the state also have stud pitchers, catchers, infielder, outfielders, hitters and baserunners. Even if a rec pitcher can shut them down they will score runs on dropped third strikes, walks, bunts, errors, and passed balls.
