Ms Alvelo has been proving people wrong for years on speed , many folk think just because they have not seen it before means it doesn't exist. It's hard to imagine but 7th graders do throw 60-61MH. Not many and Not every pitch, but they can crank it up. sometimes even people with lots of post don't get it. MD

This is pre-season poll the cream will rise to the top

You hit the nail right on the head, Can't wait to see how we fair against all these good teams. hopefully all our hard work through the winter will pay off. We play our first friendly May 15th-16th with the Lasers and a few other good teams. Should definitely see where we need to improve.

I know what your talking about... Ive been hearing about 12-u girls throwing 60 for a few years now. But only have witnessed it on a couple occasions. Ive however seen the 7th grader that throws 60, saw her last night as a matter fact. From Bloom Carroll....She was dominate. Kids seem to be bigger, faster , and stronger now....Alot of these girls have been pitching since they were 8yrs old. The game of softball has really changed over the years.

I'm sure the friendlies will be all about working out situations and not the score... :cap:;& nice bunch of teams and sure to be a great workout. Our 11u team will hopefully hang and be competitive against some of the powerhouses in this deep 12u bracket.

I do agree, that talent is getting better simply because in SOME areas ATHLETES are playing softball instead of ******/Basketball/Volleyball or whatever else steals the most athletic girls. Frankly, Softball has had lesser athletes then the other sports due to it's late arrival relative to the other sports, but SLOWLY in SOME areas ATHLETES are starting to play it at young ages and sticking with it, and in those scenarios, girls getting faster at earlier ages is understandable. Still don't believe Jasbo77 and not that he's not telling the truth, but there were only a handfull at Queen Of Diamonds last winter that surpassed the 60 mark and those are girls that are fully mature physically. Are there more kids at the TOP level of talent in the younger age groups. SURE. Are they throwing 60+ in droves. NO WAY. ^_^!

you people must think i am crazy first and foremost the two in our league that are at 60 play 14u 1 is 13u 7th grader other is 14u 8th grader other than that 7th grader at 55 or so and 6th grader clocked at osu at 57.are they in droves no or i would have one on my travel team(i wish i did)but they are all in same jr high league with exception of 6th grader who is not yet eligible.to get on computer and say someone is lying or whatever is crazy without knowing.i am pretty down to earth guy dont get in to to much hype over pitchers but they are there believe it or not.i was just following up on fact that talent is getting much better from what i see maybe we have some of better pitching not sure dont see alot of other jr high games but is what it is do some research and i will except apologies later.lol

Jasbo speaks the truth folks. These girls have all been clocked at the speeds he has listed. My daughter is the sixth grader he is talking about. She was clocked on OSU's Jugs Gun at 57 mph: 56,57,57,56 to be exact (they give you four pitches) to be honest I was very surprised because this meant she had just increased her speed by 10 mph inside of a year and she had just completed her second year of pitching. We do not clock her speed very often and I do realize these speeds can fluctuate often, it's good to use as a measuring stick for the progress being made just like other tools we use in sports. Taryn was clocked at 63 mph on the same gun. Morgan Conrad was clocked at the All Sanctioned World Series (61 or 62 mph), I believe they were using a Stalker which is a pretty good gun. I was standing at the backstop for that one. Obviously these girls probably don't hit that speed very often during the course of a game. Doug Lenos only clocked my kid at 52 mph (using a Bushnell) when we were a guest player on his team in early March. We have specific goals for speed, just like we have specific goals for movement and accuracy. Funny Story, my daughter and Taryn were standing around during a recent pitching lesson and the subject of speed came up. Taryn commented that at a recent junior high game she had been clocked at 55 mph (which I already knew about because I was there) against a team that was not very good and I commented sarcastically that neither of them would ever let up during a game (ha, ha) and insinuated that if that was Doom 96 55 mph would have become 60 mph real quick. They both looked at each other, smiled and started giggling. Kids will be kids. It's funny, I was just telling Jasbo when my daughter was in 10u and only throwing 46-47 mph tops I was one of the ones questioning these speeds you hear about............I guess you just have to see it yourself.

By the way Jasbo, I think 54-55 for Haley is pretty close but I'm hoping by the time we see you guys this summer she'll add a little to that, Lol.

Was this thread about the 12U coaches poll or about pitchers' speed? The 12U scene seems to be off to a fairly "chippy" start I'd say.

there are a few select topics that cause an instant derail.

  • Pitching Speeds (10U and 12U)
  • BigTrain
  • Riseball (we all know it doesn't really rise)

Maybe on next weeks poll we can talk about the Riseball, Lol.............

Jasbo and Bam Bam you guys are telling the truth about the speeds I don't get on here either and comment to much but I have seen the 7th grader pitch she is the real deal. She wil be heard and seen this summer for sure. My daughthers pitching coach went and seen her the last couple of weeks and confirmed everything i told him. Girls pitching some of the speeds that are being talked about I would not second guess anymore. The coaching and teaching are evloving weekly lots of info being passed on. Again don't know Jasbo and Bam Bam probably crossed path on the feilds they are stating the truth.

By the way not hearing much about my team the Central Ohio Lady Vipers 97 I belive people will take notice soon enough. Good luck to all!

No Bias in that poll, Lol. You are out of your mind if you think Orange is a national contender............keep drinking the Kool Aid. I would like to see how things shape up a little bit before we annoint "anyone" in Ohio a national contender. Keep it up though, your good for a few laughs!!

Looking foward to seeing you guys on the 15th/16th .. bring your 'A' game though - the list of teams playing is strong... I know playing in all our spring friendlies so far this year has pushed our team to the next level of comfort against top talent and pitching... I am glad to see you guys jump in, sitting on the sidelines does not make any team better...

See you next weekend!
