I really like when we get an in depth report like the one CGS gave on the Buckeye Heat 95 and it's opponents at Stingrays this weekend. CGS don't worry...lol...the BH 95 deserve to be in the top ten both as a team and by the way they played the competition the past month. Compuware, GAPSS and Stingrays...I beleive?
The Stingrays are not the same team they were a couple of weeks ago and I mean that in a very positive way. When you have the opportunity to add a couple of stud hitters into the 4&5 spots of your lineup, your opportunity for big innings increase, as was shown in the 2 championship games 9-5 and 7-1, which by the way shoud've been 7-2...lol. ?
The Cincy Doom 95 also had another solid weekend, with a couple of solid wins against a tough Team Indiana 7-2 and 4-0, and a great 2-1 win against the Stingrays before running out of gas in the Championship games.
On a side note, I was sitting with 3 of the older Stingray coaches (14, 16 & 18U) as they were watching the final 2 games of the 12U. After about a half dozen circus catches by both teams outfielders and numerous plays by the infielders, they commented that they had never seen such plays by 12 year olds before. Now these coaches have been running the Stingrays tournament for at least the past 7 years that I know of, so I take that as very high praise comming from them!!!
Anyway, I've seen the Ohio Ice play against the Buckeye Heat 95 and Indy Dreams up at Compuware and they too are deserving of one of the top spots in the polls. Very solid pitcher and from a technique standpoint some very solid hitters.
The Lasers Gold travel as well as any team in the state to all the big tourneys and are one of the top 5 teams as well. I've seen them at Stingrays, Columbus NSA and playing up at 14U in the Whitehall tourney, and competing quite well in every game I might add. They are by far the top 11U team in the state and they have a chance to do big things ala the Slammers if they work hard in the off season.
The Lasers Silver are also one of the top 5 teams that I have seen this year. They have a great pitcher and catcher combination that would rival any other at the 12U level!!!
Seen the Ohio Classics at the Columbus NSA, Whitehall and Stingrays tourney and they are just a level below what I call the Big 5 in this age group, but are still worthy of a top 10 spot.
Have not seen the Valley Extream White, as they do not leave the Northeast corner of the state.
The Ohio Emeralds Black are also a very solid team that reminds me a lot of the Ohio Classics team. I had the opportunity to see them early in the season and again up at Compuwre.
Anyway, good luck to all Ohio teams and I look forward to seeing all the above mentioned teams at NSA Nationals down in Columbus next week!!!
