Congrats to the Gold, great accomplishment for the team, organization and state! As a part of the Lasers organization we couldn't be more proud. Thanks for fighting your butts off and showing the country that we can play softball here in Ohio.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that the Gold would be the first Ohio national champ.

Enjoy this great accomplishment, you all deserve it!!

Long drive home and wow was it worth it,

As for your big dogs Cali. sent Power Surge 96 the 12 national champion and the 2nd best team in their state tourney in 2011 and an "A" rated team as listed by your own so called Bracky system. The Surge coaches stated they have battled and defeated all the teams listed. And oh yeah they were sent home on Saturday by lop sided scores.

As for the Gold, Washington, Oregon ,Missouri, Central Florida , Kentucky and several other coaches watched ours games and some attended our morning practices and each and every one of them stated that we (The Gold) would be (in their opinion) top 5 at Premier and compete for any national championship anywhere, and the Gold's Kristen Adkins and Shelby McCombs pitching duo is as good as any they had they had seen on any single team at this age.

The Fury as 12u finished 5th at ASA and 9th last year as 13u, this is one very nice team and no doubt would beat and compete with any team anywhere.

I have said on this forumn many times Woolfman " Be sure brain is engaged be for putting mouth into gear." All I can say is "ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! The Laser Gold made history this week and you post something like that !! WOW!

I don't think anyone is denying that "Gold" is a top notch team that could compete with anyone in the country. Yes, a couple of the top teams were in Chattanooga ("Gold" included). "Gold" earned their championship and they made history with the first Ohio "ASA" National Championship.

Woolfy's choice of the word "tainted" may not have been the correct way of saying it.

Perhaps what he was saying is that having 40+ of the top 50 teams in the country absent from the 14/16U tournaments this year absolutely diluted the level of competition relative to prior year's ASA/USA Nationals and comparing this year to prior years is not apples to apples.

This interview is from the ASA website :

The ASA/USA Softball Girls' Class A 14-Under Fast Pitch tournament was held in Midland, Texas where 103 teams traveled south with the Lasers GOLD from Canton, Ohio, claiming the top prize.

?It was an incredible experience,? said Lasers head coach Steve Gambone of Canton, Ohio. ?We talked about making history and knew that no Ohio team had ever won this event. It was our goal from the beginning. Our team gelled together at the right time including the players, coaches, and families and then we just did it. We stumbled along the way a little bit and regrouped and on championship Sunday we went through everybody and now we are champions! I thought the facilities were great and considering the conditions of heat, Freddie and his crew did a great job. Everyone treated us so well from the photographers and people who tossed the coins to the tournament officials- overall a tremendous event.?

Congratulations! Great accomplishment.

Think this shows that ASA A is no longer the place to compete though when there is only 2 Cali teams in the top 25. USA/ASA has now become the new Northern Nationals.

Hey Bob, 5 of the 17 Cali teams finished in the top 25, the rest were at the Cali state tourney.

was going to say the same thing in a different way as JEM joked ..... I almost missed his Ca state tourney reference. But I do need to correct him , it was Western Nationals being held at the same time.

It appears that for at least 2012, PGF will again be in the same location (Huntington Beach, CA) and will keep their dates "the same" for 14U-18HS.

http://www.heybucket.com/viewtopic.php?f=618&t=29055

From what I have seen on here for 2012 dates, it looks like 2012 will be another Western / Eastern Nationals scenario.

http://www.game-ex.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=32574

Perhaps for discussion in it's own thread but, I am curious how many east/midwest teams are considering taking the step up to PGF in 2012. I am sure some will not based on costs alone.

Trip, Apparently the coaching staffs from Georgia, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Louisville and Central Florida don't agree with your assessment. These are just the coaches I saw on the first day of pool play. I'm sure there were more coaches at PFG, but this is a sign that the big programs must still believe the competition at ASA is top notch and that the talent level is sufficient to warrant a trip to lovely, beautiful, 105 degree, Midland, TX. Lord knows they weren't there on vacation.

That post goes on to say the dates for 14u aren't decided yet.

We have had some discussion about putting the 14u with 12u, we have also discussed starting the 14u on the Wednesday or Thursday before the 16u and 18HS starts. We will decide those issues at our next meeting on September 6.

I doubt they'll have 14u straddle 12u and the older groups. I'm guessing 14u will be put with 12u.

14u teams can't be very excited about ASA/USA Nats being in Sioux Falls, SD - talk about the middle of nowhere. Moline was a hike in 2010 and Sioux Falls is another 6-7 hour drive past that. 16u Nats were held in Sioux Falls 2 years ago and hotels were charging $120+/night for rooms that normally go for $80.
