AZ Hotshots 4 Lasers Red 3,Hotshots get the bid.
The Findlay fields are outstanding.
Rodger Zorn and Jim Warren did a great job. They know the timing was bad but thats the hand they were dealt.
The Doom are a very nice team .Very scrappy bunch we loved playing.
With high school ball still going we started the weekend with 9 players and got 2 more today. We will get 2 more next week and be full strength for the remainder of the summer.
For our players we had and coaches it was some great experience against a national level team.We also got to set up a friendly with the Hotshots and some West coast teams for Christmas break in Arizona, that probably won't ****.
To those who called about our player who left in the ambulance thanks for the concern and she will be fine.
I really hated to start without the whole team but now I think it was a very positive weekend and well worth it.

Seemed to be of great value for all who played..

Lasers Red, it was great to watch you all weekend. All three of your games with AZ could have gone either way. Great job, especially knowing you all did so well short handed.

Glad to hear #6 is doing OK. That was quite a scare for all that saw it.

Why would the national or state ASA higher up's allow a 14u national qualifier before the HS ends in ohio ?

MD: that's the question of the day. Hard to imagine why this happened.

How about scores on this one? Wasn't Doom playing as well?

Zowie. Ohio Dragons beat both the Lasers Gold and Lasers Silver to win the HOH Summer Celebration. Hard to see how that doesn't earn them votes for the top ten at 14U.

Anyone at that tournament who can describe the strengths of this team?

14U polls before the games begin are predictions. The polls in late July are the real deal. Now there are coaches that "request" votes or ask all of the coaches in their organizations to "vote" for their team for recognition purposes. Tsk.

I know we don't have those rules in Washington. Players can do high school and travel at the same time and many do. I went to an 18-U travel tournament in Seattle in early May. The high school postseason is kind of a modified double elimination. Sixteen teams make State in each division and play a true double elimination, which makes for a great weekend. Even the sectionals (called districts here) and regionals are somewhat of a double elimination. Teams often play 3-4 games in one day in the tournament and could play as many as 14 games in the postseason.

Great weekend of softball at the Sheila Kitchen. I saw several close games all weekend between alot of great teams. Miami Valley express finished seventh, not bad for first weekend playing together. We lost a couple of very close games to the Explosion and Dublin Storm.

Laser Red is right there with the AZ team. If it was the second week of June, I think they beat AZ Hotshotz for the championship. They had them beat in the winners bracket final. They had a baserunning error I think it was in the 6th. Runner on first and third with one out, runner on first steals second, AZ snap throws to third and catches the girl too far off the base. IMO, this game should have not gone to itb.
I wasn't there but Laser Gold should get props, losing to a freshman pitcher only 2-1. Should Gold be in both the 12U and 14U polls? Anyhow, the 14u season is now just getting under way with the freshman now joining their teams. The physical difference between a 7th or 8th grader vs. a freshman are very noticable.

I think that the Ohio Dragons are a nice team but with respect to the two teams mentioned one is a 12U team and the other is a 13U team. Both nice teams but not sure if thats the only measuring stick. The poll in 14U should be close to accurate by the 4th of July weekend.

Congrats JP, sounds like your team is off & running again. Will get better & better all summer as players return, and get acclimated back together. Gallant effort from the sounds of things against a team that journeyed cross country on a mission. Good luck!

No offense ... will hate (and respect) you guys all summer, .... but will be rooting for both you and Team USA to do great things late summer, in Marietta! :D :)

I wonder of the AZ team had all of their regulars or if any players were sick or unable to play.

Because who knows anything about them or what their high school situation is. Maybe they were missing 2 or 3 of their bottom players, or 2 or 3 of their top players. We all think that they know so much about our situation, maybe we are not so familiar with theirs. What if their best player was sick, who knows. Looks like we assume that they brought their best. Maybe they did and maybe they didn't.

Arizona high school season has been over for a few weeks. Hotshots had all 13 or14 of their players. They all played .
Their coaches said they were here because their qualifier was held during their high school season.
