Statman Ray: Thanks for pointing out what a BAD speller I am. If you notice...I fixed my errors! :)

Statman, you are pretty "kosher" in my book. Excellent piece of literature there. Most notably ...

1. I feel infinitely (x2) more comfortable with the many uses of the term "pole" now (like I didn't before ?:p), and

2. Rankings - Great point about the usefulness of the other word "poll". Haven't people gotten annoyed with chest thumping in the past regarding who is the best team? Well, now there is an outlet to actually have an outlet (again, ... "FUN") for that. Much less of that this year, it seems. Just show up at tournaments where those recognized teams are playing, and clobberize them (or bunt them to death). Instant respect, and exposure.

3. Overall Interest & OFC Role (not "roll" btw - "roll" is what you do to determine home/away) - After we were sent packing, I could not keep myself from wandering aimlessly around the park till the incessant lightning finally ran me off, watching other teams, chit-chatting with other coaches and a few players for the low down on their games, teams, seasons, plans for Nationals, etc. (yeah, okay, I probably have a "problem"). It is a competitive, but nice community that we have here with Ohio fastpitch, fun meeting and talking with the people whether here on-line or in person.

Competitive results aside, it was big fun. Great tournament, with so many fine teams gathered for battle, and a great forum like OFC as the unifying stitching holding it all together.

Purple,
I have been wondering the same thing.
I was going to give it another day, then ask if Daddy Dice was suspended again and I missed it.

But, to the top 10. This has been a great way to help Ohio learn about the teams. I have enjoyed reading it each week and unfortunately, there is not enough room to fit all of the deserving teams.

Is that the Valley Rage Gold team the Sliman's Chargers 14u won against at Ohio Magic PONY tournament. Pretty impressive record. Lefty pitcher isn't that strong, she just has an odd motion that distracts batters. She pitches about average to other 14u teams. No disrespect, just saying... Still, I think this is about the elite teams that play in most of the bigger tournaments against other top teams. I guess you have to play those teams and win to get on the list.

Had to pull out the scorebook. In North Ridgeville VALLEY RAGE GOLD defeated Slimans 11-0, with the lefty pitcher. In the Magic Tourn. we did lose to Slimans, but it was a righthanded pitcher that took the loss. We also ended up in the championship game against Ohio Extreme, we lost, but only played 5 innings. The lefthander is averaging 14 strikeouts a game. If this is average, I'd love to have atleast one more AVERAGE pitcher. Keep your eyes open and see for yourself. Average, that must have been Lisa Fernandes talking. The OFC is definitely growing, all in fun. Just keeping it real.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Valley Rage located in Pennsylvania?

I watched this team play @ the Pony Tournament in Wheeling, WV and they looked pretty stong. The left hander (IMO) is above average but she did seem to get rattled versus a very good experienced Pittsburgh Power team. I believe the score ended in a 1-0 victory for VRG.

They were on track to face Stingrays Seeds when the rains came and washed out the tournament.

I think as a whole the VRG team looked very sound and experienced but I'm not sure they could beat Seeds.

Given that - I'm not sure why the VRG team is looking for props in an Ohio 14U poll.

I can't understand why any team would be looking for props in these polls. OH teams or not. This was alot of fun to watch over the season and all was going fine. But lately, in many age groups, there are posts questioning alot about them all the sudden. It was just for fun. Who really cares if you're in the poll or not, or where your team may be in the poll if it is. Doesn't count for anything. And since it just started this season, why are some people so passionate about it. It was just a way for coaches to give their opinions on the teams they've played, seen play, or heard alot about one way or another. If a particular team doesn't fall into one of those categories for a coach who votes, oh well. And just because you beat one or two teams in the poll surely doesn't mean you're automatically going to be in the poll. See college football year in and year out for examples of that.

From what I know, which isn't much, especially outside of 12u and 14u, they seem pretty accurate to me. But I'm sure there is a team or 2 in each age bracket that probably should be in the poll above a few others. But who can tell if they're not seen by who is voting. Is that the voters fault? No.

Since there seems to be no end of season poll, I will give my final "Top Ten 14U" poll for 2008. This is 100% JMHO based on the entire 2008 outdoor season, and not just 1 tourney or a couple of games. Please do not be offended if it differs from yours, as I would enjoy PM's from those that disagree...lol.

1) Ohio Slammers
2) Miami Valley Xpress
3) Ohio Ice Richards
4) Lasers White
5) Lasers Red
6) Valley Extream Kiser
7) Ohio Tigerlillies
8) Cincy Doom 93
9) Ohio Stingrays Seeds
10) Ohio Tidalwaves

Others that just missed were...Gahanna Lions, Ohio Wave Rosinski and Akron Sapphires

Not bad Bink, now I will give my 2009 pre-season top 6, in NO PARTICULAR order (except #1), based on who is coming back to 14u in 2009 (btw, good luck at 16u next year) ...

1) Ohio Slammers (even though nobody will see them at 14u, mostly 16u & 18u sched)
2) Lasers Red (majority back, probably playing heavy 16u schedule also)
3) Valley Extreme Kiser (mostly all eligible to come back, I believe)
4) Ohio Wave Rosinski (mostly all eligible to come back also, I think)
5) Ohio Ice Orange
6) Akron Sapphires (all still 14u eligible, majority will be back)

Any other 2007 "13u" teams returning to 14u status, intact?

P.S. - I know this is ridiculous to assess before try-outs even. Just mainly having fun and noting which teams will be back with 14u status next year. Like the very nature of the poll itself, ... JUST FOR FUN.

ballmagnet I think that the entire Lasers Red team was eligable to come back. They were just 13U this past season. Why would only four be back?
