14u Poll

might have to make it a 13u poll till it gets going...

No offense to the 13U teams (we're one of them), but it is going to be difficult to break into the top 6-7 this year. There are a ton of good 14U teams. I think some of the best are not playing much 14U, instead playing up in age, so they might not be seen much around our parts. But, I also believe there are some dangerous 13U teams out there as well. Good luck to all as the season starts.

Yeah, me. I would be glad to do it.

I think a non-coach should do the poll whenever possible in the absence of The Ringer. I would think most coaches have enough on their plate already anyway. JMHO.

Merlion,

Thanks for taking care of this for everyone & getting me off the hook :). I would not want anything to do w/ taking care of the poll for many reasons, the main one being I am a coach of a 13U team. I love the idea of a non-coach taking care of it not b/c a coach couldn't be trusted but it puts an immediate stop to any questioning.

I think Tod also hit the nail on the head in regards to the 13U's breaking into this poll at all this year. The top 15 second year 14U's are incredible & should dominate the polls the entire year. This is going to be a tough growing year for the 13's, especially my team, but should serve us all well for the 2012 campaign. From what I have seen & heard, the Glory, Heat, Danger, & Ice are the top '97's & deservingly so.

I am in full agreement w/ listing the coaches who voted weekly & I would not even mind showing the exact ballot each week. My point would be if you feel secure in your voting then what's the harm in letting people know who you voted for.

Start the discussion at 13u

1) Ohio Ice
2) Cincy Static
3) Buckeye Heat
4) Championship Fastpitch
5) Ohio Danger
6) Glory
7) Classics
8) HOH Inferno
9) EMR

I do not know much about Lasers or Stingrays or Cincy Doom. I am sure they belong in this list somewhere but I think they might be playing up.

Did I miss anyone? Sorry if I did, go ahead and bash me for it. I am sure there are others but the ones on my list I know.

I have to respectfully disagree my friend w/ where you placed us. I would not even put us in the top 10 of the 13U's. I love my team to death & think the world of them, but we have so much too work on including the coaches & especially me. A few situations arose last weekend where we did not make the correct decision & that's b/c I did not train them adequately on it - that's on me & me alone. If the coach ain't doing his job perfectly, how can you expect the team to perform at a high level.

The girls are working very hard at practice & home to get better & I see strides everyday - we just have a lot of strides to make. We'll get there but as I told them, our goal is just get a tiny bit better everyday & by the end of the season, those tiny bits add up to be a nice improvement.

I also want to say how impressed I was w/ the Danger 13U last weekend. They were very good last year but have made huge strides already this season. What some of you may not know it that Paul has a few 12U's on his team as well!!!

I have had a chance to talk w/ Jason last week & I know he's very excited about his Glory team as they have a ton of returning players who were great last year & he added a few very strong players to the mix - they are going to score a ton of runs this year.

Seven of the nine you have listed will be playing at your 1st Annual Warm-Up in the Danger Zone tournament the weekend of May 20-22. The results should add to the discussion. :)

Another 13U team not mentioned is the Buckeye Elite. They were quite strong last yr at 12U & I would expect even more from them this year!!!!!

Maybe this is a good thread to throw out this question... PC Sting 97 started in the fall as a "true" 13U. We just recently lost a 13 yr old and replaced her with a 14yr old... a sister of a girl on our roster.

Are we misleading anyone by continuing to call ourselves PCS 97?

Not trying to be harsh roundtowndad but with even 1 14u player on the team will consider you in the 14u age group. If she is on the roster then you could not go to a 13u nationals. You would now be called PCS 96, sorry.

You are correct Kavin, I do have 3 12u players on the team. Shortstop, 2nd and most of the time catcher. So now all you bullies take it easy on my middle infield, lol. I feel they are very capable of getting it done and they give 100%, that's all I can ask for out of them. As mentioned, we have made huge strides already this year but if you don't these other 13u teams will crush you, I won't even mention the 14u teams cause they will just beat you to death. Awesome competition at 14u again this year and win or lose if you are mentioned in the top 15-20 in the polls this year you are a very deserving team and you should keep your head held high. Goodluck to all this year and the years to come.

I agree that you should not be PCS 97. The year distinction in meant for true age specific teams. Maybe consider PCS 14u instead of 96 because you are not really a true 96 team either. JMHO

No worries ... I wouldn't as if the question if I didn't want honest answers.

We are playing nothing but 14U divisions this year, and if we go to a national it will be a 14U... so as far as that goes we know where we stand.

Our org has a PCS 96 already... so we'd have to distinguish ourselves another way for now. We'll get back to being a true 97 in the fall regardless.

Right... it's not any more accurate to call us PCS 96, so we'll figure something else out. Like I said, we won't ever play in a 13U event. If our team name bothers anybody they can call us whatever makes them feel comfortable... we'll still respond.

I'm forgetting that we also have a 12 yr old on the roster... that should offset our one 14 yr old.. :)

Your logic sounds good to me since it is a game of averages. :lmao:

I know a lot of ('96) teams that have '97 eligible players as well as ('95) teams with '96 eligible players, however they don't have any players older than the age specific designation. But at the end of the day........ it's just a name.

Im an assistant coach for a new 14u team the Central Ohio Lightning and i was curious if any of the teams that are being currantly ranked in the top 10 would be playing in the tournament at Berliner Park on June 4th & 5th ? We have yet to play this season due to high school ball and just trying to get an idea of the level of compatition we will face there .

I would say that most will be at the Dayton Metro ASA / USA qualifier June 3 - 5. Not for sure though.
