That's one more than I have received for the 14U poll so far.

Classics Black 16U was unable to get into the Best of the Best on such late notice. We ended up not playing anywhere.

Five ballots in so far for 16u. Ballot voters seem to know their stuff, but as the list of legitimate contenders for the top ten continues to grow, we might see the bottom of the list have some changes. Get your opinion in.

I run-ruled NEO Phoenix in the losers bracket

The score ended up 8-0. This was at the end of 7 innings. You did win. You are a very good team. However, I think we beat ourselves more than you beat us. Those 2 unforced errors in the 2nd inning and make them outs as they should have been and we are out of that inning still 0-0 This would then take us to the 7th inning 1-0 you. We then gave up 4 runs with 2 outs. Granted you won as you scored and we didn't, but to say you run ruled us doesn't reflect the game as played. We went 3-2 for the weekend. Losing to a very good Mad Dog team 3-2 and losing to Buckeye Heat Mason 8-0.

Technically, not a run rule unless you were playing nine innings. :)

But still a pretty convincing win.

Unfortunately, we all know that breaks early on can turn a close game into a route, but that's what often separates talented teams from winning teams. Winning teams minimize these mistakes so that the game stays in hand.

I agree and your ending statement is almost word for word what i told my team at the end of that game.

@Semper and Catalyst:

I just now came across your posts regarding my mis-reporting of the BH95/NEO Phoenix game and I apologize profusely. I pulled the book and you are absolutely correct that the game went the full 7 innings. Actually I should never refer to a run-rule in reporting anything but a loss by BH95. So I hope you accept my apology.

You have a very good team (I knew that from having scouted you at Shreve) and I apologize if my carelessly wrong reporting of our game was interpreted as intentionally saying something differently. It was a good game.

I've gone back to my earlier post to revise my recount of BH95's weekend.

Apology accepted and thank you. If you don't win, learn! As stated, you have a very talented team and we learned a lot from playing your team.

Exactly. Just looked at some tournaments they have been in for the most part well

below average talent. To be considered a big dog you gotta run with them :)

Chain just won the Lady Spartan ASA qualifier this past weekend. Are you saying that NONE of the teams they play are any good? I'm pretty sure they could go toe to toe with a lot of the "Big Dogs"! ;) I'm equally as sure that the "below average" teams you speak of might be slighted offended!!

So what your saying is all these teams are "below average" talent? I could pull a few out that are definately not! IMHO your facts mean very little....

and frankly are very offensive to a team of very talented athletes! You will see us next year, then we will talk! It seems to me that the only teams considerd to be "Big Dogs" come from Columbus or Cincinatti.....;)

Um, on the 16u polls the following teams from places other than Columbus or Cincinatti have received votes:

Tidal Waves
Ohio Sapphires
McMadness Black
Valley Extreme Heverly
Tuscarawus County Rebels
Hurricanes ESO
Ohio Ice Black
Maddogs
Outlaws

There have also been Dayton teams such as EMR and MVExpress.

I don't disagree with your concern that in an earlier post someone characterized the level of play by certain teams as "below average." I don't think that was appropriate, especially if the word "average" is meant to refer to all travel ball. But I do want you to understand that with respect to "Big Dogs" there are plenty of us in Central and Southern Ohio coaches who recognize some of the Northern Ohio teams as fully pedigreed Big Dogs.

Don't forget the 16u Southern Ohio Cyclones, going 4-0 in pool play at Buckeye Showdown and #1 seed in their pool

My question wasn't designed to offend, it was more for information as I don't know much about the teams in 16u.

My DD's team has yet to crack the top 10 in 14u.....while I believe they are a very talented bunch, I also know for a fact that they are not a "big dog". I don't think one should be offended, if they are not a "big dog". If anything, this should push teams that think they are, to enter the tournaments where the top teams are playing. JMHO

Shelley,

Here is my perspective on it. Last year our Outlaws 14U was a pretty good team and we had much success in the tournaments we played in winning many of them. We also played in NSA A World Series and finished a strong 5th. We never made the list or got any votes last year.
When we went into this year our focus was on a schedule playing in all the toughest events we could. We applied for some of the invitationals and didn't get in one or two (because of our lack of ASA/USA qualifiers and ASA States). The reason is because in Ohio, you really need to be playing the ASA/USA qualifiers, ASA States and get in as many of the (higher profile) Invitationals that you can. I can say, just about every weekend has been a meatgrinder this year playing that type of schedule. This is where you are going to get the recognition from the coaches in that pole. We see most all of these teams in the Top 10 every weekend.
Not sure exactly what WW Will by his comments, but, there are some good teams in tournaments like the Lady Spartan, but you have to play in, win and compete in the above mentioned to get the recognition. I certainly know that your team and some other teams playing in those events you mentioned are very good teams.
I would talk to your coach about going this route for next season, it will only make your kids and your team better.
Hope this helps!

I'm sure their were only "Big Dog" teams there, right? ;&

Sad627,

It's as simple as this - take the list of 10 - 15 teams in the poll and tell us who you played this year and the outcome. I would say most of the people on this board recognize those as "Big Dogs" and would welcome your input.

Jon, We are planning a strong ASA/USA schedule in the comming year. And though I agree that we probably shouldn't have been at some of the tournaments we were, it is what it is. Once you're there you play. But we have played and beat many good teams. I really don't care about this poll. It means nothing to me. I do care that some very good teams are known as "below average" because they didn't play in certain tournaments.

We will be making some noise next season in all the "right" circles! We will say it on the field! That's the best place for it anyway! ;)

BTW I am really glad that you guys are doing so well. I hope the rest of your season is great and next year is better!!
