Congrats to Buckeye Heat 97 on a strong finish and, equally if not more important, on its recognition for sportsmanship. Neither of these results surprises any of us who have seen Tod, his staff, and the players in action.

Could not agree more Matt ... I came away knowing this ... those teams are so close in competition/ability - each has it's strong point, each has a few holes. Each has great coaching in place. Tourney winners each week (if we all played each week) would come down to the draw, a little luck and which team(s) showed up that weekend a little more ready than the others (season eb and flow) and injuries (the biggest factor)... it would be a battle each game... I assume that this group of '98 team plan on staying together for the most part?

I would like to set-up a 'fall' re-match of the teams (we will be 13u) in Dayton (help out the Cincy teams this time) - We will arrange it - keep the cost down to around $300 per team and we can have a fall/spring 'battle' of the 13u's with Danger hosting the spring, us the fall - a bi-annual "98 Throwdown" ... what does everyone think?

Great idea! Count Buckeye Heat '98 in.

Ohio Danger 13u is in Doug. Spring and fall would be great. Especially with these monster teams. I do have to ask, are you coaches passing out the steroids or are the parents doing it? Some of these young ladies are phenominal in size, speed and strength, not just 14u but 12u as well. Awesome seeing the work ethic they have.

I am 5' 8" - my neck hurts from looking up all the time.. thankfully Kavin was there so at least I was taller than 1 other coach... (well him and Les):lmao:

Paul, let's talk - I think a cool traveln trophy that the winning team gets to 'hold' for 6 months with their name on the plaque would be great ... We aim to make it an inexpensive, non-berth, friendly event (yea right) - roster batting, etc - a spring tune up and a fall size-up (see what ya got after tryouts) will be great.. let's do '98 and '97 years - those are 2 LOADED ages ...

We can get the trophy for the teams that won this weekend and get their names on it as the inaugural winners. We will create a web site for it and we can add photos, rosters, all cool stuff each time we hold it.. hopefully we can encourage more SWO teams to get in as well in the fall... You started something great here Paul - thanks!

When in fall? First week of Sept? last weekend of August? what does everyone think?

Let me know if your team wants in - we will only have 12 '98 and 12 '97 spots open .. first dibs to teams that played this weekend sounds good, teams can keep their spot each fall/spring ...

Keep double-elim format - or go to 4 pp games, then 1 and out? (this will allow teams to see 4 diff teams - althought Les and Matt prob want to play more ..lol) - that would be a 5 game guarentee .. we can do that for $375 fee and just a $5 weekend pass for ADULTS only -18 up. Thoughts?

Team list so far:

98 Teams
Buckeye Heat '98
Lasers Gray
Hawks 98 Black
Static 98
Stingrays 98
Valley Extreme

97 Teams
Danger 13u
Buckeye Heat 97

I'm an outsider here, but as everyone knows it takes a lot for me not to comment on something. Seems to me that with respect to the format, you need to decide how much "fun" you will have with those traveling trophies. The 4 pool and single elimination format is usually associated with showcase tourneys where the ultimate goal is getting the players seen by college coaches. If you really want to create an aura of the traveling trophy having been earned through a tough war, I would think you would go with a three pool games and double elimination format, which would also give you a five game guarantee.

Sounds like a fun project that has good initial support!

Danger 13u-- you and the Crew did an awesome job! Hats off to you!

This tournament was Great!!! :yahoo: I think it was a combination of great teams, and really the first opportunity to get out on the field when it seemed that everything was on the line. Everyone seen what they are going up against this year. Whoever said in a earlier post the 12u division is going to be a MEAT grinder nailed it on the head. The coaches and teams were great. It was kinda cool seeing the coaches and players mingling and then when it was time to hit the dirt they hit the dirt!

My DD got to see a lot of great teams this weekend, and hopefully now realizes that she is going to need to bring it though the middle of the week too. Some one mentioned earlier about the size steriods etc. Seen alot of girls crushing the balls. Whatever it is let me know. I've been trying to locate a stretcher to lengthin her out a bit. LOL

As a parent I like the double elimination format. With teams of this caliper and being one of the first of each season (spring and fall) it gives the teams a chance to really see what they got and a chance to fight back. Thats just my 2 cents.

Count the Rays in Doug - Tournaments like this hurt the resume from a win/loss perspective (Unless your Grover and his traveling murderer's row), but do wonders for the intensity...Never seen the midget of mine sleep so well - Greatest quote of the weekend came on the way home.... (from the back seat)..."Dad, are we going to see all those teams together again soon?"..(Driving, in a daze, longing for a cold bud light)..."Some of them will be in Dayton, but really not until Stingrays I don't believe."...(after 30 seconds of silence).."why honey?".... "Because my head hurts from 8 straight games of thinking every pitch, my neck hurts from watching shots to the outfield, and I have dirt in cracks I didn't know I had from diving for screaming ground balls".....That sums it up for me :lmao:
