Who is the best 10u team in the state? Valley Extreme and Thunder Elite are obviously up there as well.........

am i the only one that doesn't have a clue? honestly guys/gals we're tallking about 11 year olds here and really, can anyone tell how the're going to react in game situations? IMHO I can tell you we've (coaches) told them the correct way to play in different situations again and again,,,, but can anyone guarantee how an 11 year old is going to make the play????

If you can,,,,,,,,, bottle it and we'll be rich.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I do know the Laser 10u is the clear #1, until someone dethrones them (I don't see that happening). As for the rest of the bunch, I know the Hawks, Classics and Nitro are for real (very good teams) and all deserve to be near the upper half of the rankings. Keep in mind this poll is more for entertainment value, it means nothing in the real world. Your two teams may be very good, the other teams I have mentioned have been playing a fair amount of indoor ball, so it has helped shape this poll. As the outdoor season begins, and all the other teams (that may not have played indoor ball) begin playing, that too will help shape this poll. I personally believe that the Classics, Hawks and Nitro will remain towards the middle/top of this poll. The Lasers 10u will remain #1 more than likely.

I agree that so long as we keep this in perspective, this poll can be great fun.

We saw the Ohio Classics at the Zanesville Christmas Bash. We got them in the first game 11-4, but fell 7-1 and 3-2 (tie breaker) later in the day. Their #1 pitcher has a ton of velocity and good control. The Lasers were also there and won the trophy, but because of the format, we were disappointed to not get the chance to face them.

We have a long way to go to match last year's 44-3 record, but we have made a ton of progress during the course of our winter program. We are excited to get outside and turn things loose. The I-270 League looks to be very competitive again and we will be busy with an aggressive tournament schedule.

Thanks for the votes. We hope to be worthy as the season progresses.

Iceman will have a dog in the fight before it's over, at least playing in the Top 10 quite easily... in my opinion he will be up there with the Hawks. I say this knowing KK can bring it and I haven't see Doug's 2009 team yet but do expect them to do good things.

Iceman... I'm with you on the bottle it and sell. I know some of the ingredients are confidence, talent, coach-ability, athletic ability, mental stamina along with about 10 others...

We had our second scrimmage today and the rust is coming off... those indoor tourneys bambam mentioned are huge with a new group like ours. Experience, another key ingredient as y'all know tooooo well. Good luck to those in the upper bracket and the Rip-It tourney if anything will answer many of these questions as teams should be peaking or on their way to getting the wrinkles closer:eek: to being ironed out.

Iceman... sandbagging? me? really? Again these polls are just fun to read. Are we the best team in the state? Don't know! Do we belong in the top 10? Don't know that either! But I do know I have a group of great girls that love to play ball and they have a blast doing it. This winter we scrimmaged a few times and played in the Spano tourney and it was great to get the girls some early work. The two(Ohio) teams that stand out that I've seen is the Nitro (make sure your outfields have on gamefaces, these girls can hit)they have good pitching and have a great coaching staff.
The Ice which is from what I believe a new team this year(last years 10U team, the Best 10U in the state is now 11U) This years team will be just as good or better. And since Iceman is tring to put a target on my back I can give everyone some info on how to play this team(we scrimmaged them twice and play them twice in the Spano tourney).First off don't pitch to the first 9 batters! Lean in to as many pitches as possible (hard to come by hits against there pitching) The Head Coach has these girls sharp and they a fun to watch!(pm me if you need more info)LOL
Other teams I've seen are the two Pittsburgh teams Spirit-Roadrunners both these teams are very tough! A team I haven't seen yet this year but will really make some noise is the Diamond Chix they were JMHO the best 9U team we faced last year. Best of luck to all the teams

we're going to pitt this weekend to see the RoadRunner team. more info on them when we return. I know they're a great organization and they faired well in the winter spano tournie.

Rule #1 (that pitt coachdave and I agreed on)........ we both want to see what happens when we play a real length game. We both wanna know what both our teams have in the tank. More on the roadrunners after saturday.

As for other teams being at the top until knocked off,,,, let's set something up. we all need to coordinate together so that we meet several times this summer. Speaking for my (our) team I can promise everyone that we will be traveling south to play.

Anyone coming up north?

Lasers Red 98 will be up north for more than half our summer schedule:
Lady Spartan - Boardman
Tigertown - Massillon
Sheer Madness - North Ridgeville
Toledo Classic - Maumee
Summer Slam 1 (firestone) - Akron
Some of these tourneys still have openings...

Regarding "getting together".
What do you think about a one day event just north of Columbus.
- Invite all the teams on the poll (may have to limit the # due to the math)
- We have access to the field
- Cost would be very low (umpires, etc.)
- Proposal date of May 2nd or 3rd

Here are the teams attending the 2009 GAPSS 10U tournament - July 3-5, many of the top teams are attending but certainly not all. We lowered the price in an attempt to revitalize the 10U division which it has seemed to do, but I sure would like to see the teams in the top 10 who aren't currently attending join in.

One thing is for sure, you have to beat the best to be considered the best and this seems like a pretty good tournament, later in the season, to put all of the discussion to rest.

There was a comment regarding not getting enough respect...
Teams looking for early respect... Consider the two tourneys below. Both have open slots and both have good competition.

Lady Spartans - Boardman (April 24 - 26)
Tigertown - Massillon (May 8 -10)

Thanks for the props Wgman21 I really would like to have at least 6 teams in each age bracket. But this is a first year tournament. I ran the SummerSlam3 tournament last year and had a lot of compliments. This is a great way to qualify for the 10U nationals in Cincinnati this summer.

Just an idea plus I'm bored, The Ohio Emeralds are hosting a tourney on May 23+24 in North Ridgeville) we(North Coast Spirit 10U) are the only team entered at this time. I looked at a few teams websites and alot of teams have that date open. Here are some that I found...
Diamond Chix
Lasers
Ohio Ice
Thunder Elite
Valley Extreme
Diamond Dogs
Just to name a few, anyone interested?? YO!! Iceman maybe another piece of hardware for that new big trophy room?

Yes softballfreaks I don't believe the Ohio Pride has a 10U team this year.

Long weekend for (ICE)10u'Nation..... Tell you what we ran into a hornet's nest in Pittsburgh Saturday night. That Lady Roadrunner team has a bonified power pitcher, a girl who not only can pitch in the mid 50's but can also rake at the plate. Didn't see a change up but then again when you throw that hard who needs one. This is a real team y'all.... Can't believe Pennsylvania can come up with that type of talent----probably those "mexican vitamins" they put in the water over 'there. A huge football team (14u) pushed us off the indoor field.

that said we came out a victory 6-5 in a seven inning game. Definitely had to manufacture runs against this girl. We had a 2-0 lead going into the 4th when the RoadRunners put #2 and #3 against us...... both girls had good stuff as well. B. Hillhouse motions galore.

I'd like to thank the families on our team who traveled to Pitt, watched their kid play, and arrived back in Akron at midnight...... and oh.... got up and arrived at the Spanodome at 7:15 the next morning (Sunday) to play a double header. YOU are the reason your kid is good.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Pete (Ice dad) in the loss of your dad after an extended illness.

Thanks for the props Les - we played in a 'friendly' yesterday - KK pitched only 5 innings - no hits, no runs, was in the high-40's and has developed a devastating change-up. We played a well coached Southern KY Thunder team that was young, best team in the friendly. The SOX looked ok as well, Gar does a great job with them - I really liked their 2nd pitcher. Is it me or do all the teams players look small this year? We returned 6 players from last years team, and brought on 3 players that were nice additions - we just need to get out and face some high end pitching - right now that is our challenge - to get up a see some hard throwers in game situations.

ICEMAN hit me up with a PM, let's try and play on a Sunday soon. I have access to a great field and would love to have you down. My parents will prepare a between game meal for players and parents, and we will kick in to help on the gas for your parents and umpire cost.

We scrimmaged the Nitro back in August when we added our new players and faced them in the Wave tourney - very good talent - hoping to get up against them soon as well.

I really would like to pull of the North/South deal we proposed last fall - seems the North has the edge right now on teams but that can change as we get into the season!

we played today some of the teams Doug mentioned in a scrimmage. Lots of work for our young team. We too will get there. Our weakness is ourselves right now. Situations...will be fun!!!

Doug, anytime. Keep up the good work

I feel for ya Les, you lost what? all but 2 players from a great team? I was fortunate to return 6.. I know the Static 11u kicked it at the same friendly Saturday... I know you, and am sure by Mid June you will have those girls playing solid ball- that is where I was last season - all 1st year FP'ers... it took ton's of work but they turned the corner around at the end of June...

What did you think of the KY team?
