They are paid at the 14U level, only refunds will be returned if a team qualifies in the 14U age group in another tournament for Nationals before States.

For those teams who are hesitating because you might think you will be in a little too deep, I would say that this is a tournament that you want to put your team into to test them and also show them what to strive for. This is as close to a National tournament atmosphere that you will get without having to leave the state.

Agree, you learn by playing better teams.

Lasers Black are playing 16U ASA States, we never registered for the 14U States. It may have been the Gold or Orange team that entered

Valley Extreme:

You may want to check with Warren Jones about your cut off date for entries. Our District Commissioner was told that entries for ASA State Tournament and ASA National Qualifiers (not ENQ) may not close until one week before the tournament.

Thanks....our guy told us we establish the cut off date. With this many teams "no one" could create the pool play and double elimination bracket, and get it out to all the teams within one week. Unless you are retired!

We are closed at 40 teams, awaitiing to hear from one more team.

Thanks

Not to mention available field times must be the determanating factor in how many teams any tournament can host.

I feel your pain, Rick...
We (Ohio Wolfpack) were told the same thing by
ASA State Commissioner Warren Jones... can't cut
off entries until 1 week prior to tournament. We're
hosting 18-u ASA States, and have already had to
secure 4 additional fields (total of 8 fields and 3 different
sites) in order to accommodate the
32 teams who have entered. At this point in time, we're
expecting even more teams, and have taken precautionary
measures to add even more fields if necessary. 95 games
have to be played at this point, which is alot considering we
only have 3 days to get'em in!! If we have to add a 4th venue,
I don't know how we can possibly staff all 4 locations...

I think those of you running these State tournaments have a very tuff task , however if you make the cut off too soon , league all-star teams will not have an opportunity to enter . I understand that most all-star teams would struggle against all these travel teams , but they deserve to have the chance play in the state tournament . Most of these teams are just now being selected , infact where im from the team wont be selected till next week June 3rd ! I dont envey the orginizers at all !

@ech92:

Honestly, the only time that I have seen an all star rec team appear at an ASA States or other USA/ASA qualifier, it was so not pretty that I can't believe the rec team enjoyed much if any part of the experience. Looking at the list of teams that are already entered into the various States tournaments, I would not want to be bringing an all star rec team. I apologize if this sounds haughty, judgmental, and/or elitist, but I believe at some point bringing a rec team that has only been able to practice together for a few weeks to a tournament such as ASA States becomes a safety issue.

But the most important point is that if there is an ASA rule (Nat'l or Ohio) that requires entries to be open until the week before play, that rule needs to be changed so that TDs and player families are treated fairly. You could leave in place the rule that everyone who timely applies must be accepted; that would allow the rec leagues to put in an entry for their all-star teams if that's what they really want to do. Rosters with individual names are not due until right before the tournament.

TD's simply can't be expected to put together draws of up to 60 teams within a seven day period before the start of tournament play. And Chuck Ferrell raises the excellent points that if there is a late surge of entries, the TD faces the need for additional fields, umpires, and volunteer staff.

With the larger number of entries, play is bleeding back into Thursday of the "weekend" (that's apparently true for the 16U tournament this year). Families should receive specific pool schedules for such an early start at least 1-2 weeks before the Thursday or Friday of pool play. Not knowing the pool schedule until a scant few days before play will inevitably mean that families will incur hotel expenses and vacation days that might actually turn out not to have been necessary.

I cannot think of any justifiable reason for not setting the entry deadline for States tournaments at least three weeks before the tournament.
