On the 5 yr anniversary of Teal Town you can add this poorly ran tournament to the list, different sanction same results, one poor decision after another and a complete lack of effort by the hosting organization, except for the time I watched their parents jump up and start raking the field that the organizations founder was coaching a game on, man they got on that field in a hurry to get back to playing her game.....can't do anything about weather, but could have made a much bigger effort to get games in and have better field conditions when the weather was nice, all in all I give this tournament a big fat F- and the TD an incomplete.....

As a first year coach I will keep comments to myself but it was a 4 gg. Do we get money back if we only played 3?

Your Org in Massilon this weekend did an exceptional job keepng teams on the field and playing. Signs were posted saying be ready to play early. When teams were ready they played. They didn't stand there looking at each other waitng for the next rain to come through like we did in strongsville. Open fields and teams waiting to play 60min drop dead! Crazy

If the team that wins their bracket turn down the bid, does the 2nd place team get awarded that bid?
That's typically what happens. SoCal ASA gives teams 24 hours to accept or decline a berth so they have time to pass down declined berths to teams that wants them.

Agreed, the drop dead revert back rule is a joke, especially in elimination rounds. We rallied to tie the game, watching our girls get all excited over the come back only to see them crushed when the other team came to bat and the game ended and reverted back to before we tied it. Trying to explain it to them and seeing the disbelief and disappointment on their faces really ****ed and yes the field was open after the game "ended". We will not play in another tournament using this rule again.

And this was an ASA/USA qualifier???

I'm not so sure that ASA would approve of TD's taking liberties like this...especially in elimination rounds. You typically only encounter "reverting back" in winter indoor leagues at most.

I think I would be questioning whoever happened to be representing ASA at this event for some sort of decision on this before those games are played.

I did see Warren Jones at this tournament, does TD have to get the ok from commissioner to make these changes?

This tournament was one of the worst tournaments we have ever attended. The communication was terrible. For a month prior to this tournament I received numerous e-mails about everything under the sun, and then was notified by a vague text that loser brackets were eliminated late Saturday night. No e-mail explination about that decision. You got our money this year, but never again. Remember it's about softball, not big business, or so I thought!

I learned something this weekend. The Explosive group as a whole is A FOR PROFIT organization. This is a source of yearly income for an individual and the organization sees very little of the monies collected.

We typically see it in friendlies, showcases and pool play where ties are allowed.

ASA Code covers this in a few places. All of their regulations are finish the inning (aka no new). However, Article 308 Levels of Championship Play gives local associations (e.g. Ohio ASA) a lot of flexibility for their tournaments. Did Warren ever make Ohio ASA's rules available?

A. Local Association Championships. Local Associations championship play at the state or metro championship, must follow ASA Code requirements except that Local Association rules may be enacted forrun ahead rules, time limits, uniforms ( except that a minimum must be shirts that are like in color and style with numbers on the back ), home run rules, stealing, metal cleats and fence distances. ...

Article 310 General Regulations of Championship Play establishes default rules that can be overridden by local rules, but not for open National Qualifiers and Championships.

P. Time Limit Rule. A region may by majority vote establish procedures for a time limit in qualifiers, regional or tournaments. When the time limit rule is in effect, time begins with the first pitch. If the game is still tied after the time limit has expired, the tie breaker rule shall be in effect at the start of the next inning. ...

Q. Tournament Completion Options. At any time during or prior to the tournament with the unanimous agreement of the Tournament Director, ASA Representative and the tournament Umpire-in-Chief, the following procedures may be followed to complete a tournament because of circumstances beyond the control of the tournament hosts.
01. A National Championship Finals may be extended.
02. A National Championship Finals may be completed by, but not limited to, using the following options:
a. Drop pool play games and play elimination games only.
b. Set a game time limit of one hour or five innings.
c. Convert the tournament to a single elimination.

In case someone hasn't seen the thread on the missing bownet I will post agian here. Between 10:00am and 11:00am Sunday someone "mistakenly" walked off with my bownet... The very bownet my daughters got me for my birthday.. If you have it or know someone who happened to "come across one" Sunday I would like to have it back.

Thanks,

Dave.

The back 2 fields at volunteer park. Unfortunately there's no identifying marks on it. I looked around and didn't see another one around.

I recommend marking your stuff with your cell phone number so people can contact you directly and while you're still around the fields. This applies to nets, buckets, bags, gloves, chairs, EZ-Ups, coolers, golf clubs...

Our 18u team also got the shaft from the revert back rule in our first bracket game. We had bases loaded and one out and just tied the game when the other team starts stalling so the time runs out and reverts back. That rule just always leaves a bad taste in teams mouth after a tournament. Stalling and walking people to not finish innings. Would never play another tournament where bracket play was drop dead revert back. Coaches bad stradegies always comes into play by the end of the tournaments.
