Can someone please help me understand this? Almost 100 teams are in this tournament at $500 entrance fee, why are there no temporary fences or maintenance on any of the fields during the day? They are lined in the morning and then nothing after. I just don't understand?

The port-a-johns are the absolute worst. Lots of great competition though and many nice people.

Why does everyone keep coming back to the mess ?? With so many top notch tournaments out there you would think the tourneys with all the problems would have a hard time filling up.

Field maintenance is not done at all. NONE!!! Pitching mounds and fox holes. You pitch and when you take your stride you fall into a foot hole.
Bathrooms are dirty and not kept up. Port-a-johns are FULL
Your hit a Home run and only get a double because there are no fences. Really?? No fences for an ASA/USA???
How can you play a game with no lines and still be a ASA./USA Qualifier? Last game we had there were NO Lines? Hard to figure were the bunt falls.

There is no excuse for no fences, there are nice pvc fences stacked in the yard next to the maintenance building. I was part of this the past couple years and i know you have to tell the city to put them up, they were up before. This obviously wasnt attempted. Not having fences for a USA/ASA qualifier is a travesty and changes the whole aspect of the game.
Fields were lined for the 8am game and was not touched the rest of the day and no batter boxes. First game for us was 8am and we played 5 games today and the only lined, No dragging whatsoever.
We were delayed a half hour so the maintenance could put the bags back to fastpitch length and this was at the 6 pm game!!!

I have never seen a port a potty filled TO THE TOP with shat before today, you couldnt get anymore in it. This definitly needed a phone pic to prove this i was in such awe.

Had a conversation with Joe A of Hillsdale College. Next year we are going to use his players to maintain the fields and the brackets. We will have his players at the complex all weekend long. The Hawks in return will make a donation to their softball program. This will hopefully solve the field maintenance issues.
As for the bathroom issue, that is a city issue. If anyone can push the city to fix it, please do. Or if they have a contact and want me to do it, just give me a name and number.

With the amount of Hawks teams in this thing, you couldnt get ANYONE to do anything ? In years before, there were people who did this, what happened this year?
Yes, the city maintains the restrooms port a pottys, BUT YOU NEED TO CALL THEM, they dont have esp. You dont just let the facilities go to the point they were yesterday. This also goes for the overflowing trashcans, in years past we had people emptying these, what happened this year?
I have played or coached in some way at Kettering field since my teens and to sit and see it look the way it did and hear out of town people say what they were really hits home. It could and should have been done better. i just dont think anyone cared, bottom line is the mentality is whatever, teams will come anyway.

Jay - you did an awewome job with the 10u tournament!! 1st - your team was competitive and has improved so much since we saw you in January. Your girls competed. 2nd - I don't know how you did it; to be a coach and a parent in a tournament is challenging enough; great job leading and organizing the tournament all weekend as the tournament director as well. The games were very competitive and the fields were great. Congratulations to the Lasers on winning the tournament, and to the Ohio Storm. Those 2 teams are extremely solid!! Thanks Jay!! Great job.

Last year was my first experience with Dayton, and everything I am reading about this year are the same reasons we didn't sign our team up to go back this year. After many years of going to ASA/USA qualifiers and expecting great quality, I was flabbergasted by what I saw last year.

Joe good job with 10u it was great to see all of the tough competition on 2 fields! Hats off to lasers white those girls played awesome, I don't think they missed one ball in the last two games we played them, and they can crush the ball! Congrats again!
