As much as I love watching you guys go back and forth, I just have to chime in on this one.... Don't you think it is a little early to be "judging" teams right now? I am sure most of the teams mentioned have had a high turnover this year, so they aren't the same teams they were last year....Heck, half of them are on here still looking for players and haven't been able to play more than a few games. I bet most of these teams have had "fill ins" for those as well. Alot of things can happen over the winter months with training, scrimmages and players jumping ship for greener pastures. Preseason is the beginning of April not the beginning of October! But, go on.... I am still listening! LOL! It's an addiction, I know....

^^ Nope . It's not early at all. The teams listed will be there and the ones not listed prob won't be . ( in the top ten) . There might be some minor changes but it's almost Nov . Rosters are 90 plus % set. The small amount of player shuffling wont affect much , if any , of those top 10-15 teams .

I agree with MD. Plus it is fun to see how close the poll ends at the conclusion of the season. Good luck to all the 12's, see the '01's again in a year, when you move up to 14's.

Where is this team based out of? I know of the USSSA Pride 12U team out of WV, but didnt realize we had one in Ohio.

that Utrip team is coached by a guy from portsmouth and 1 from Ironton I believe .. They do have 2-3 WV girls on the team . And kids from across Scioto and Lawrence co. Ohio. He told me they were playing Spano this winter sometime . Should be a good test for them as spano usually draws good teams in those early age groups . They can play .. have several kids that could play for the big boys . Sweet swinging lefty pitcher . Great athlete at SS . Few big sticks . Overall team speed is good . nice team.

Based on my experiences coaching against them last year when they were at the 11U age level, I would say that the following teams will be tops at this age level:

Grand Slam
Lasers Green
Storm 01
Stingrays 01
Wizards - Blackswamp

The Wolfpack should also be a good team this year if last year is any indication.

Every year, two or three 11U teams make some noise, and my guess is the Lasers White and Mason Thunder will be the 11U teams that do that this year.

I only caught a 1/2 inning of Hawks- Robinson but saw a few bombs hit by very large athletic 12u players , cant imagine they wouldnt be on the list . Classics 02 has a very nice 1st year team. A team out of So Ohio that would be competitive at maybe a top 10 level is the USSSA Pride 12u . All 01's , athletic , pretty experienced . Dont know if they will seek out the top teams though , hope they play laser nation / asa states/ stingrays . They are good enough, but dont know their plans to play outside of utrip . Hopefully they skip the WV/KY circuit where there is zero depth and go swim among the sharks .
Looked them up on web teams there playing are very weak if there as good as they say they need to play in bigger tournments .and seek out the top10 teams.with playing a schedule like they are they will get turned down by the bigger showcases.usssa 12u pride

lefty -- The pride folks never made any comment at all about their potential. I coach against them and was impressed . You saying you have seen their upcoming 2014 summer schedule ?

Have played some of the teams mentioned in a few fall tourneys/scrimmages etc...and did very well. It's funny when some people post about teams to watch based off last year or off a popularity poll.. Based on what I've seen... There is no huge dominating team to watch out for, but several good ones that could make for a very unpredictable year.... But I have not seen everyone granted...Come April things may change! Ps I'm not tooting my own horn... Not a coach just a parent so I'm aloud to be optimistic and proud!!!

I'm so glad there is evidence of a poll that didn't get shot down from the get go, nothing but a bunch if crying, politically correct "it's all about development", doesn't matter this young stuff in the 10u preseason poll that tried to get started. Glad to see there is still something about competition still out there. Thought for a minute when in the 10u poll everything was gonna turn into "ribbons for everyone". Ok, I'm done ranting. Carry on.

Ri_domination ... just because a person thinks polls of 10-U players are silly doesn't mean they don't believe in competition ... nothing to do with political correctness or everyone getting trophies or ribbons ... just saying ...

Yeah, kinda like if a team has had high remarks in a 10u poll coaches/teams won't be more apt to watch them play to possibly recruit for 12u, which isn't silly. Just saying...

I think that the grandslam pitcher and catcher are the strongest combo at 12u ..... and the grandslam team will be the next thunder elite level team ..... not sure there will be too great teams this year (2014) like they had in 2013 with thunder and lasers ...... the other question is who is the deepest or has the most deepth in there roster ..... or will 1 big horse pitcher get it done ?

With a few fall tourneys and some scrimmages, I'd say teams to watch are the emeralds, and Wolfpack come spring. I'm sure there are others I can assume on but I'm talking strictly that I've seen, and I'm gonna say it... Watch for outlaws silver. Not bragging not tooting own horn, but if u want an honest answer I have to say it! Lol merry Christmas!

I will back you up RenMad. Having played and watched Outlaws Silver on more than one occasion Adam has once again put together a solid team and they will definitely be making some noise come spring.

OK boys.
It's almost time to resurrect this post. It's my opinion that the pre-season opinions will start the week after Spano Dome since that is going to be the first true indicator of how these teams have emerged from winter training to get prepared for the season.
Then we get to say good bye to the players as they don their school uniforms for a while until we get them back again in late April/early May, depending upon each school's desire to play in post-season play.

One thing to keep in mind...you should let the performance of this year's team be your guide, not what they did last year, or last fall in friendlies. In friendlies coaches are doing a lot of investigation & trial work. You could emerge from a friendly beating a team that in a normal tournament might not be the case. I can say that very thing happened to my team, but I certainly have no expectations of a repeat performance of that game, because that was a friendly & I'm 100% certain we didn't see that team's A lineup or pitcher.
So...bottom line...let's start the thinking process & get this post going again. We would probably need a new post started & someone to volunteer to manage the polls. I volunteer to NOT run it. I have no chance of doing the poll any justice with my trying to manage an indoor facility in addition to running my team, being a father and husband. Oh, and an employee 3 1/2 hours per week. :)
We need a volunteer & the conditions for voting laid out in advance. Who's it gonna be?
Oiler-Pride did a bang-up job last year. What say you, Jeff?
