I am looking forward to see the schedule as much as anybody. But I do know with the HS Tournament there are several teams that are on the bubble to see if they will have enough players or not...........Doug sent the following info to ALL Coaches last week. So it pretty much gives you the info that your team will be playing 3 games on Friday & you will need to take the day off!
**********************************************

Everyone will play their FIRST PP Game by 11:30am - their second pool play game will be played by 2pm.

Bracket play will start around 4pm - each team will play 1 Bracket game Friday night.

We will play all day Saturday and start all days at 8am.

So. This is not Doug's first go round with this tournament and he runs into this every single year at these age groups. This is not something new and he should add some sort of disclaimer that teams need to be finalized by no later than say 5/21. I get it that teams are up in the air but maybe they'll think twice before scheduling a 6/4 tournament. If you really have players going this deep then maybe they should have full concentration on their HS team. If they get knocked out next week, they could use a weekend off anyway.

He also said Saturday was deadline for teams to drop and we would have schedules by Sunday. Didnt happen. Always something with this tournament.

I would hate to be the TD on this tournament. School ball is a huge factor, especially for the girls still playing. Us Coaches are trying to do our best in the mean time to get a team in this tournament but I, as a coach, would also like for my players to go to State with their high school team as well. Usually the ones that complain are the ones whose daughters are knocked out of the high school tournament already. Mine was knocked out 3rd round and I am not badgering Doug about schedules. Been in this tournament every year and it is the same every year. Last minute schedules due to high school tournament. He already said everyone was playing 3 games Friday so if you are traveling and or staying over night you know you need to get a hotel. Don't really see what the big deal is. I would like to thank him for waiting as long as he can to allow the girls to play high school ball, seniors for the last time especially, and then when knocked out have a chance to play in the Metro. He is trying to be as fare as he can with all the girls and coaches I think.

We have been in this Tournament for the last two years and it has been a great experience both years. As 14u in 2014 and 15u in 2015. Yes, we had (still have) players still playing on their high school teams and yes, I like to see the pool play schedule as soon as possible. But if you want to play great competition out of the gate, this is the place to be. If you are a team in Southwest Ohio, Central Ohio and Northwest Ohio and do not play in this tournament, I have to ask..... Why?

Part of the big deal is that we just found out we play at 8am Friday with warm-up's at 7am. 2 hour drive means leave home at 5 up by 4am. I will not load the car the night before with all that money in gear. Up by 4am is a sure way to play poorly so that means adding Thursday night to the hotel. 3 nights in a hotel and a day off work. I gladly do this for my girls but I would like to be able to prepare as soon as possible. I understand the TD position and he does a great job. I just don't like surprising people at last minute with a 3rd night in the hotel.

Everyone who has played in this event before - knows it starts Friday morning...........TD sent ALL Coaches notices that they would have a game prior to 11:00!!!

65 Teams are playing at either 8:00 or 9:30!!!! Not sure why anyone with Softball Experience would not have already had hotel reserved for Thursday night???? I have all my hotels for the summer on hold for the night before - Once schedule comes out - You either Use It or Cancel that night...........
Just sounds like a reason for someone to whine over nothing!!!!
Now the good part is - Many won't need that hotel on Saturday night!

Captain_Thunder - I am so sorry that you are stuck sharing this world with people you feel are so inferior. Please take solace in knowing that if we were all at your level then you would be merely average. FYI - I have 8 years travel softball experience plus several years non-travel softball and did not receive the email you mentioned. You attacked me when you did not have all the information. You made it personal when there was no reason to do so. Good day sir.

I never made anything personal.......You seem to be trying to do that!
If you didn't get that info - tell your HC, don't blame the TC!
Sorry you feel the need to continue to whine, but I'll be the bigger man - come find me & I will apologize in person & buy you a Slushie!!!

Brackets posted. All online- please look over and notify me ASAP if you see any issues. We had a 16u team drop this morning, but re-configured the PP and bracket to accommodate. Weather is looking great - Fri and Sat - let's hope it holds thru Sunday!

Thanks all for being patient. Captain Thunder - thanks for your comments, I know you have been there running tourney's - this being so early up against HS ball makes it tough. We try to be fair to everyone, give all teams a chance to hang in as long as they can - those teams are usually very strong (that's why their players are going to state) and that helps us all if a team can have up to the last minute to see how HS ball shapes out. Doug Mix and his Classics team pulled out, then had 3 players lose last Sat - they are back in... that is a good thing.

Russ said it right - we try hard to get everyone 2 games of PP by noon, and 1 bracket game between 1pm and 7pm - I tell teams plan on it. Then Sat/Sun we play from 8am until nightfall. I tell my team's parents and players - Weekends are for softball - if we play Thurs - then be ready 8am Thurs until we have to go home Sunday. Don't even try to fit anything else around softball from 8am first game day until Sunday night ... summer goes fast as it is .. set aside all weekend for the sport!

Thanks everyone, see you all this weekend.

strong showing by the Hawks organization
Thanks! -We had teams in each age group alive late - only my 18u Gold team did not make finals - Laser Red took us out. Strong showing by Lasers and Doom as well as the Hawks - those 3 org's had multiple teams alive very late in the winners bracket.

We have come a long way as an organization as has the Dayton Metro - it never runs a perfect as we want but it was a pleasure walking around and getting compliments on fields, fences, food, umpires (yes, umpires), strength of the teams, and how well the fields were maintained. It took a lot of hard work and bruises over the years to get there but sure was nice.

Thanks All.

14u - Ohio Hawks 14u Gold over Lasers White
16u - Lasers Red over Static
18u - Lasers Purple over Ohio Hawks 16u Gold

Doug was just a little excited after a great, successful weekend and made a little typo. It is understandable because this weekend it was good to be a Hawk.

It should have read:

14u - Ohio Hawks 14u Gold over Lasers White
16u - Lasers Purple over Ohio Hawks 16u Gold
18u - Lasers Red over Static
