It is 4 o'clock now, no rain since 5 this morning and 70 degrees??? I can understand pushing it back some to get fields ready but to cancel bracket play all together????

I live two miles from VSP it rained a lot last night, everything is soaked here. Brent wanted to finish this as much as anyone.

All I can say is what a disapointment!!!!!!!!! verryy poorly handled by both parties.

I agree mstat00, just a phone at 6:30am and no email from the tournament director to explain? I have parents calling asking why it was not pushed back. My 12U practiced today in Strongsville which is just down the road and fields were fine at 10:30 am this morning. Victory park has lighted fields so pushing it back really should not have made too big of a deal. If I remember correctly this tournament had the same issues with the older girls last year with rain and calling it early because fields where not playable. My little ones really wanted to see some pumpking smashing. Just saying!

How can you have any placement of teams when half of them only played one pool game. The whole tournament was a wash out, no champion or placement of teams. If there was it means nothing, it's like ranking teams in scrimmages whats the point!

Also I know it rained and everything was soaked (rain does that) but why call it off before it even starts, push it back gets fields ready to play and go! At least make an attempt to play!

cDon't shoot the messenger ,thats what i was told,just as disappointed as everyone else,there can be no winners with today's result.

I emailed all the coaches at 6:00 am this morning and again at about 11:00 am. We also called all the coaches that had 8am games and 930am games at 6am trying to get ahold of them before they left. When I arrived at the fields at 5:50am this morning and met with the park crews that were at the park at 3:30 am trying to get them ready they explained to me that it rained from 1:30 am thru 4:00 am straight without stoping. I tried walking on the fields and sunk in about 5-6 inches along with major standing water on the infields. I asked the park personell if maybe we could get on them about noon? and they explained to me "no possible way" I personally live 30 minutes south of this park and did not get much rain at all and couldn't believe them, which is why I personally drove their myself at 5:15am. Then before we got the rain again this afternoon at about 2:00 the entire infields were still complete mud holes.

I took pictures of the fields for this very reason...so if you want to see them, please email me at bbelsole@zoominternet.net and I will send them to you.

As for placement of the teams, I only did this to be able to give out the very nice trophies that we purchased. Otherwise I completely agree that it basically means nothing!!!

I wanted nothing more than to get the games in!! I even offered all the coaches to play next weekend. Not sure what else can be done?

I dont feel its diamond chix fault. To be honest i really feel victory park is ****. I personally played up there and they are cheap idiots. Sorry 200 dollars a team and being charged 5 a person per day is bull....especially when i feel they dont do much to get fields in order because they are cheap. They are private owned. Sorry, for the money they charge, they should have better fields. Its bs

I appreciate the explanation. The only thing else you can make sure and do at this point is reimburse everyone according to the predetermined guidelines.

I have had bad experiences at this park before due to rain.....maybe it's just not a good place for tournaments to be held. It looks like it is in the same state of construction, or worse, than it was right after it opened about 3 or 4 years ago (makes you wonder about the dedication to keeping it up and running properly). Coaches and tournament directors should keep this in mind for the future.

All - I have to tell you, we were just as disappointed as all of you with the cancellation today. This was the only tournament our girls were playing in this fall and they were extremely excited about it. Since the team wanted the pumpkin back we left our hotel around 11:00 and drove to the park to pick it up. Brent isn't exaggerating - my husband took two steps onto one of the fields and sunk right in. There was standing water EVERYWHERE.
As disappointed as we are with not being able to complete the tournament, it was obvious there was no way those fields had any chance of being playable.
Thanks for having us at the Pumpkin Smash this year - it was a great opportunity for our girls to get their feet wet. (No pun intended there either Mdfio!). . Hopefully we get to actually smash those pumpkins in 2013.

We never received a email or Placement list? How can you place a team during pool play for first place ? Then ask teams if they want to play next weekend but give the trophies away to the top seed in pool play the weekend before? I was never asked about playing next weekend. You would think if you were going to ask all the coaches if they wanted to play next weekend you would at least ask all the coaches first and get a replay from them before giving a trophy away! I can first hand tell you that you missed this coach on your email list. I have check may Junk mail and no email, maybe it was a honest mistake but you would at least think you would wait for all the coaches to replay.

Great teams and great pumpkins! This would have been a great one to end the fall season on. Hope you do it again next year, but move the location down the road.....
