you can roster with multiple teams in asa. but if you play in a qualifier for a team , you can't play in another qualifier for any other team. only non qualifying tournaments. you will need insurance for other teams though. unless you have individual. nsa is very strict. you need releases and approval. and you can only get one release. usssa you also need to get a release. but not to strict.

Thanks ... so if you sub for a team in an ASA qualifier, but opt not to play for them anymore can you be released, or are you stuck with that team?

You can be released....

This is nothing new. This happens every year. It makes it worse when tournaments are "qualifiers". Most teams are still looking for players to fill their roster even throughout the winter. This entices teams to pick up "pickup" players for the fall tournaments. I would guess that 50%, if not more, of all teams playing in a fall tournament have pickup players.... players that will not play with that team come spring/summer time. Just normally no one makes this much of a stink about it.

I was always under the empression that if you win a qualifier in the fall or early spring, you have until a certain date before your roster is frozen. Until your roster is frozen, you can change players as many times as you want. This is how some teams even "advertise" for players by saying.... this team has already qualified for the 20?? Nationals/World Series......

LOL! No stink being made. The TD made the call and the penalty was handed out. There is too much bending of the rules and corruption in youth sports. There needs to be an agency to monitor organizations so families aren't ripped off.

I thought when you turned in a roster at the beginning of a tournament, that was your roster for the whole tournament.I didn't know you could change it during the tourney.

Yep, it's nothing new. That is why OFC has a COACHES NEEDING TEMPORARY PLAYERS section.

It is nothing new that teams pick up players. However, players must be the correct age for qualifiers to protect opposing teams and also the players being picked up. When competing, everyone wants to start equally.

I tried to pick up a player after 3 girls were sick and I was told I could not pick up any players because the rosters were frozen, so we played with 8. No big deal, but I had a player ready to come sub.

Once you turn your roster in, it is frozen for that tournament

CoachSDS has it right on the Money. If you take your team to a "2010 Qualifier" your girls should be rostered for 2010. If your are playing 12U ALL your players better be 12 or younger as of Jan 1, 2010.

So, in that case, a 13-year-old who played 12U last year could not play as a sub for a 12U team in fall ball, right? If so, what is the penalty for said organization or player?
Anyone out there know the answer?

Just curious, "who got ripped off"?

Also what exactly would this "agency" look like that monitors organizations? Would there be yet another fee associated with it? Just what we need another dose of big brother charging us a fee to make sure hard working volunteers have to pay for their honest mistakes. When it comes time to vote on that kind of protection from ourselves, please count mine as a NO vote.

Shouldn't need that organization.... coaches and organizations should be in it for the kids, the sport of softball and to make sure their kids are getting better.
Not for doing ANYTHING to win at all costs.
