It means you guys were a 1 point favorite and the total score would be over or under 2 runs total.

LOL - ok. ?Thanks for the help with that one - I guess that's why I am not a betting girl!

We had several opportunities with runners on base but just could not get that timely hit or bunt. ?The Slammers made good defensive plays when they needed to. ?Our pitcher kept them off the bases too, which helps as they are very aggressive.

It was a great game and good way to get ready for the weekend for both teams!

Seems like the Slammers have played a couple of exhibition games before the Racers games....does anyone have a schedule of when they will be doing this again? I'd like to go, but being we are about 3 hours away, it doesn't help to find out the day of. :)

Here is their schedule .. doesn't look like any more exhibition games this season.

Make your plans to attend a couple of Racers game this week(end) at beautiful Firestone Stadium.

The Racers split a four game series with the Canadian Olympic team (#5 in world) this past weekend. Saw some great softball.

Games are this Wednesday (July 2) through Saturday (July 5) against the Philadelphia Force. Start time for each game is 7:05 PM. Tickets sold at the gate from $5 to $9.

Wednesday night games feature a celebrity guest appearance; Thursday night games are Kid's night/$1 hot dogs, kid's tickets are $3.50; Friday night games are promotional giveaways and Saturday night games feature fireworks or promotional giveaways.

Take the girls to a couple of games. This IS their game and a league of their own.

My DD and I try to make 2 if not 3 games a week. ?Every time we have friends join us, they are amazed    ?Joey puts on a great show and the whole Org. does whatever it takes to make it an experience the young girls will never forget. ?It also leaves an impression on the older people as well. ?So much so, I have heard people say they will never attend an Aero's or Indian's game again. ?There is NEVER a dull moment at Firestone Stadium when the Racers are playing :)

DENVER, CO ? National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) League commissioner, Cheri Kempf announced today that the Akron Racers will host the 2009 NPF Championship Series. The dates for the event are Thursday August 20th through Sunday August 23rd, with Opening Ceremonies, Battle of the Bats Finals and Fan Appreciation Day on Wednesday August 19th.

For the past two seasons, the NPF Championship Series has been hosted by Cardinal Yo uth Softball at a neutral site in Kimberly, Wisconsin. However, in an attempt to centralize the Championship geographically and to grow the fan-base of the Series, the League office has decided to try the wellattended and city-supported venue of the Akron Racers in Akron, Ohio.

?We are pleased the Akron Racers have helped make this possible again for our city. Our community is proud of these young women and the Racers organization who have made many contributions and created new opportunities for the people of Akron; especially our children. We know the 2009 NPF Championships will be a terrific value in entertainment and a wonderful experience for the players who get to enjoy one of the finest facilities in the nation,? commented Akron?s Mayor, Don Plusquellic. The Akron Racer?s General Manager and co-owner, Joey Arrietta commented on the announcement , "On behalf of the Akron Racers, players, coaches and fans, we are proud to welcome the 2009 NPF Championship to Akron and historic, Firestone Stadium. We will do our very best to make this a memorable event for everyone involved.?

The Akron Racers will be celebrating their 10th season of professional softball in 2009. They have one NPF Championship to their credit ? a 2005 win in the championship game over the Chicago Bandits. This will be the third professional Championship-type event to be hosted by Akron. Akron was the host site in 1999 for the WPSL Championship and again in 2004 for the first year of NPF Championships Series. Akron was also the site for the first ever WPSL All-Star game in 1998.

?I have personally witnessed the support and enthusiasm of the Akron area fans, who are an impressive group,? said NPF Commissioner/President, Cheri Kempf. ?The city of Akron has supported professional Women?s fastpitch softball for many years and I am proud to say they will host the most exciting women?s fastpitch event of the year, in their venue! I am confident that all of our teams, along with their fans will enjoy the 2009 Series in Ohio.?

The NPF?s 150-game season is structured to crown a regular season Champion. The top four placing teams in the regular season standings will then play in the NPF Championship Series.

NPF will feature a new Championship Format in 2009 having two, best-of-three Semi-Final Series (1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3) with the winners moving onto a best-of-three Championship Series. The Semi-Finals will feature two games on Thursday, August 20, Friday, August 21 and, if necessary, games on Saturday afternoon, August 22 to conclude the series.

The Championship round will begin the evening of Saturday, August 22 and conclude with a possible two games on Sunday, August 23. The Bandits captured both the regular season Championship and the Championship Series titles in 2008. Plans are forthcoming for streaming video and national television coverage of the NPF Championship Series. Additional information on each team's schedule and season ticket specials can be found by navigating to their individual websites from www.profastpitch.com. Championship Series ticket information will be available through the Racers website in early 2009 at www.akronracers.org.

I don't think you can look at the price per team, but rather at the price per player. DD spent 4 hrs. with Jess Toocheck last weekend and I can tell you it was well worth the money. If you take your dd to a good clinic I'm sure you will pay just as much. Thanks again Jess.

When you break it down. It is actually cheaper than a camp/clinic.

Two Racers is 25 per player for two hours. You are getting professional instruction for 12.50 a player per hour.

Two hours is the length of a normal camp/clinic and I know that Universities charge more than 25 dollars for two hours. For Example Kent State held a Hitting Clinic in 2007, that they charged 40 dollars for two hours.

Plus, we come to you at your practice if you are in the area.

AKRON, OH --Akron Racers President/GM, Joey Arrietta announced today the hiring of Barb Sherwood as the Racers new field manager. Sherwood replaces Shonda Stanton who resigned to spend more time with her two young daughters and family. Sherwood recently accepted the assistant coaching position with the Virginia Tech Hokies and will serve as their pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. Sherwood spent last season in Tallahassee as the pitching and catching coach at Florida State University, but long-time head coach Dr. JoAnne Graf retired following the season and a new staff was hired. Prior to her season at FSU, the Pensacola, Fla., native spent two seasons with the University of Wisconsin as an assistant serving as the pitching and catching coach.

Sherwood began her coaching career at Troy University in the fall of 1998 as a student assistant coach, but quickly moved to the graduate assistant level the following year. Upon receiving her Master's degree in education in 2000, the former four-year letter-winning catcher was named the top assistant at her alma mater.

In 2006 Sherwood made the leap from Alabama to Wisconsin, to join the Badgers' coaching staff as an assistant and the pitching and catching coach. While there, Wisconsins pitching staff ERA was ranked No. 4 in the Big Ten for the 2007 season.

In her lone season at Florida State, she helped senior pitcher Tiffany McDonald earn All-ACC honors as she posted 18 wins and 244 strikeouts while the catchers threw out 14 would-be base stealers.

Sherwood earned her bachelors of science degree in physical education from Troy in 1999 and followed-up with a Master's in education in 2000. Sherwood remains the winningest player in Troy softball history.
I am looking forward to coaching the Racers. Akron is a 'class' organization with a tremendous amount of talent on the roster. I believe it will be a great year in all aspects...for the players, the city and the fans. Professionally, it is a great opportunity for me," replied Sherwood.

I am very excited about Coach Sherwood's work ethic and her knowledge of two of the most critical positions on the diamond. I'm looking forward to working with her in pursuit of another championship, noted Arrietta.
Sherwood welcomes a roster that includes Virginia Tech's former ace and 2008 All-NPF selection, Angela Tincher, catchers Kristen Butler (2008 NPF Defensive Player of the Year) and Olympic Gold Medalist Jenny Topping. The Racers roster will also feature two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Crystl Bustos, pitcher Jamie Juarez and infielder Kate Robinson. Tennessee's Kenora Posey recently signed a free agent contract to suit up for the Racers in 2009.
The Racers look to add both superior talent and depth in the upcoming 2009 Draft scheduled for February 17th. The Racers hold the second pick overall in the first round of the draft.

DENVER, CO -- National Pro Fastpitch League Commissioner/President Cheri Kempf announced today that the League will field five teams during the 2009 season, including the 2008 NPF regular season and Championship Series Champions, Chicago Bandits, the Akron Racers, the Rockford Thunder, the Washington Glory and the Philadelphia Force. The New England Riptide has withdrawn from the NPF and will not compete in the 2009 season, citing economic duress. A new schedule has been released to reflect this latest development.

The Riptide was one of the original six teams that joined the revamped Women?s Pro Softball League in 2004 which changed names shortly thereafter to the current League known as National Pro Fastpitch. With the re-structure of the League, Riptide owners, Joe and Lauri Adlman were instrumental in forming a league management group consisting of team owners in early 2005, and the Riptide captured NPF Championship honors in 2006. The New England Riptide finished the 2009 season with a record of 22 wins and 26 losses.

?It is with a very heavy heart that we have made this decision,? said the Adlmans. ?We would like to thank the community of Lowell, our sponsors, staff and especially our players for their support and contribution over the years. We hope to leave the door open, however, for a return to the league in 2010, after we have had time to pursue additional opportunities with sponsors, gain additional support for the Riptide from the local community and improve our stadium to fit within the league?s professional standards.?

?I applaud Joe and Lauri Adlman for their very vital part in taking over NPF operations, along with the other owners in 2005,? commented Kempf. ?New England has been a market that NPF players were proud to play in, and each season, the Riptide has put a competitive team on the field. I am sorry that the Riptide tradition will not continue in New England, however, we will continue moving forward with professional fastpitch and we will insure that the New England players get a fair opportunity to be picked up in other markets.?

The current players of the New England Riptide roster are officially free agents and can be picked up by any of the remaining five NPF squads. Four players on the New England roster were named to the 2009 All NPF team: Pitcher Eileen Canney; first baseman, Lyndsey Angus; and outfielders, Gina Carbonatto and Lisa Modglin.

The 2009 schedule will include all NPF teams competing against each other a total of 10 games (5 home and 5 away match-ups) for a 40 game total that will determine regular season standings. The top four teams will move onto the Championship Series August 19th ? 23rd, in Akron, Ohio. The openings left by the New England Riptide will most likely be filled by eager National Teams from foreign countries who tour the U.S. every summer and are always hopeful to land exhibition games in the world?s most competitive professional fastpitch League.

?In spite of the loss of the New England market, the NPF continues to move forward and upward as a viable professional sports option for women. The League Teams have dedicated ownership who have committed a great deal in support of their respective ball clubs, and who continue to strive for new and better ways to make the sport, the League, and its players a more attractive option for sponsors. Although it is disheartening to lose a team, I urge everyone to continue to keep an eye on the NPF. It is a League that is on the move, with a sport that has exploded in popularity over the last decade. NPF will continue to broaden awareness of the League and to increase the audience that will surely be impressed by the extraordinary talent and performances of our athletes,? Kempf added.
