In many countries, fastpitch is huge amongst the male population. Even here in the United States, there are areas that have a big male fastpitch population. In some countries, boys only play fastpitch and their school teams are also fastpitch.
In fact, the ISC (International Softball Congress) and ASA both have male and female fastpitch teams. They have national and international tournaments for both sexes. If you think about this from a purely financial standpoint, it would make the most sense to have men's and women's fastpitch in the Olympics, rather than women's fastpitch and men's baseball. Both fastpitch teams can use the same stadium and more countries have men who play fastpitch than play baseball.
Many of the top men in the game are now coaching women's college teams. Ken Eriksen, Mike White, Ehren Earleywine.
All of this makes me wonder why men's/boy's fastpitch isn't bigger in Ohio.
