Ok at Nationals here is what happened...

Bases Loaded, no outs. Batter hits a popup to the first baseman who is playing 20ft up the line. Popup is 30ft up the line. Umpire yells infield fly better is out. First baseman is standing under the ball waiting to catch it, ball is 2ft inside the line in fair territory, the batter runner continues to run toward first and collides with the first baseman both girls are knocked to the ground. Ball hits in fair and is not touched by either the runner or the fielder and rolls into foul territory. Umpire declares that the batter is out on the infield fly thats end of story.

Shouldn't the call instead be foul ball, interference on the batter runner and the runner closest to home is called out. Or would there be more to this ruling..

Please lets us know enquiring minds want to know

It sounds like no doubt that the batter-runner did interfere with F3's opportunity to catch a batted ball. When this interference happened, you say the ball was over fair territory. At the moment of the interference, the ball became immediately dead.

Yes, an infield fly must be a fair batted ball. But since the ball became dead before going foul, and while still over fair territory, it is treated as a fair ball.

I would have...batter-runner out on the infield fly. This retired player then interfered with a fielder attempting to field a batted ball. Since it was interference by a retired player, the runner closest to home would also be called out.
