Can someone explain to me....

It's amazes me the way people jump to conclusions that the Niners got homered or the tourney was fixed. Makes me wonder if those responding have been to the Paige Harshbarger Memorial Tournament. We went two years ago, only to support Mark & Paige. We were the ONLY team there that was not a rec team. Good to see Mark attracting travel teams. Why did you put this tournament on your schedule? It isn't a qualifier & its run by someone completely removed from the travel circuit. I'm amazed they had a computer there at all. Two yrs ago, we heard of this tournament from the family & advertised on OFC for him. I would suggest choosing more well established tournaments in the future if you expect a tightly ran ship.
Well said Icouldnt have said it better myself

You are right, it was wrong for my girls to expect the number one seed that they earned. We put the tournament on the schedule because of what it represents and because it is a well ran tournament. When I posed the question it was not meant to start an arguement, I was legitimately asking wether or not there is something about the software used that I did not understand, as I was confused by what the rules said the tie breaker was. Nothing more. I never said the tournament was fixed or we were homered, I simply asked a question and everyone else drew their own conclusions. A tournament is a tournament and I don't believe it is wrong to expect them to abide by the rules they set forth wether it is a rec tournament or a qualifier.

Because it seems like things get taken out of context around here. Tones are hard to convey on a message board. I ask a question and somehow I am the jerk for expecting a nice person to uphold the rules set forth prior to the start of the tournament....should I insert an lol here????

Now why would you think anyone would read more into that than the 1 seed being awarded the 1st place hardware because of rain.

Niner--
You were not the only person I was responding to. There were comments made by others about the tournament being fixed & teams getting railroaded. Those comments are unfortunate considering the circumstances of this tournament. Anyone who has ever been a TD knows that its a rough road and someone is always unhappy.

You seemed very early on in this thread to accuse me of suggesting homering. All I said was that if garbage was put into the software, garbage would come out, and I then said that perhaps the computer user made a mistake in inputting the results. So at least with respect to my comments, you certainly read an awful lot into them that wasn't there.

ptchslapr, I just want to make it clear that I wasn't downgrading anybody involved with this tournament. Just to be clear, there were 7 teams in the tournament, 6 of them were travel teams. You are right, someone is always unhappy with a tournament and I am sure it is hard to be a TD. I was asking a question about the software and it went from there. However, your comment that I should choose a more established tournament in the future if I want a tightly ran ship is a little off base. They gave me the rules at the beginning of the tournament and as per the rules, my team did not receive the seeding that they earned. It might seem a little petty to some, but my girls played their hearts out all weekend and were very disappointed when they learned they didn't earn the number one seed, for whatever reason. As a coach I was trying to better understand the software so I could offer an explanation should this situation arise in the future. I don't believe anything was done intentionally, but I do believe there was an input error and the courteous thing to have done would have been to at least review it with me....

Sounds to me that someone put the wrong info into the computer for it to come out that way.

ninercoach08, kudo's to you for wanting to understand how the computer works in the seeding process. In pool play you fight for the #1 seed and in bracket play you fight for the championship. How can you possible hits those goals without knowing how? I've seen posts on OFC where the poster says who cares if you are a #1 or #2 seed. If those people are coaches the should quit and hit the stands with the parents (please, for the girls sake). I understand what you are looking for. Did you do the right things and just get wronged or is their something you should have done to get the #1 seed? Again, kudo's for wanting to get to the bottom of it for you and your girls! You deserve to know! JMO

mustohiofastpitch, I am so glad someone here gets it! LOL. I really wasn't trying to give the tournament a bad name or come on here to complain. A number one seed in this particular tournament meant a first round bye with an advance straight to the semi's. Seeds 2 thru 7 had to play at 10 a.m., seed number 1 played in the semi's at 1:30. When I was given the rules I was told the tie breakers were head to head, runs allowed, runs scored, in that order. My team and another team went 3 and 0 in pool play. Since we did not play eachother, the next tie breaker was in effect which was runs allowed. They allowed 7, we allowed 7. This is where I got confused. They scored 11, I believe, we scored 34. I just did not understand how my team seeded number 2. Obviously, it makes no difference now and I am not here to gripe, I really am not familiar with the tournament software and wondered if there was something I missed, nothing more. My girls played their hearts out and were almost heartbroken when I told them we seeded number 2, and I couldn't explain why.

In five years of travel, I have never even heard about using software for the seeding. Lol. I just always figured it's pretty easy to do it manually. I feel for you ninercoach. Just go get em this week!
