Cincy Select Fastpitch League

Go back and read some of Les' posts and especially Coach McQueen's post and that was my concern as well.

It's called pay me $250.00 and I'll keep the league standing for you..also two sanctions is included, ( value of $$$) and we are giving away USSSA and ASA berths to the winners..... that ANY TRAVEL ball team know you can get for free.. just ask.

But you got to drag he fields, line the fields, pay the umpires let alone FIND the fields on your own.... I can see a lot of TRAVEL ball teams going for that set-up.

It's called HOLES in advertising, SK. Lots and lots of holes.

No, I wouldn't say rec league.. but I'd try the ones Les mentioned like Pastime Park or the league in Springdale actually. Those palces you don't have the worry about all the diamond stuff as it's a warm -up for an hour and play. Let me go find you the link for the Springdale league

Be right back.

It sounds all good for the folks who may have to travel a few miles to get a double header in for "practice" games but my family puts the travel in travel ball along with a couple of other families in my area who travel 90min to practice with our travel teams all winter long 4 to 5 times a month and and i dont c my dds coach calling up for a mid week game when most tourny action starts in late march and goes almost every weekend till late august . Im sure that alot of teams in the cincy area who have girls close but there are several who pull from all over ohio and seek out the very best competition in ohio not just in the back yard.Correct me if im wrong coaches but i do believe every one of you expect your young ladies to work their tails off during the week with the batting coaches ,pitching coaches and whatever strength training they do when the travel season starts and be well rested and expect to play late on sundays. I think this is more for rec teams like musty stated. jmo...good luck though.

Quaker, I see your point. Really I do..If another park can offer good competition, for a cheaper price, then I'm all for it. I'm just curious as to why I have seen nothing about these other parks offering select leagues, until John posted something. Have they been succesfull in the past?

Back when my DD first started playing travel ball there was a league out of Monroe which offered home and away format then a tourney at the end of the year.....the problem was that as the travel teams built their programs the level of competition could vastly vary from team to team making it no longer practical to try to have a combined league. Most travel teams look to get into the best possible tournaments available....at least for us practice time together is more valuable than a league.....even double header leagues have such a vast difference in skill level from team to team...almost not worth it.

Pastime Park... the teams show up each week.. That's a good thing.

Springdale.. I don't know much about it personally. I believe they are thinking about starting a spring league according the the link I posted for you and it sure did sound like the Fall league was ran very well.

But, my point was SK, was this isn't a park having this league... as you have to find your own diamonds AND all the rest. Now think about the $250.00 you pay... then add on top of that the time you spend finding diamonds, the cost of balls, the cost of umpires and throw that on top of the $250.00... is it really a "deal"?

I don't supply umpires to either place... nothing personally involved in no way, shape or form....

I guess I worry for first or second year teams that get messed up into thinking this is a great deal. Especially when advertising about berths that the whole softball community in a whole knows all about already and the theory of "berths".

My personal suggestion for your team... For you 2010 team .. Go to Pastime this Spring and play leagues.. play tournaments that can give you the most games for the money this Summer.. then play Fall ball in Springdale with your new 2011 team after try-outs in August and a couple tournaments.

Now, talk about Fall tournaments.... I have two tournaments in ...lol WARNING: Hijacking of thread..hijacking of thread.....

Your $250 includes your cost of affiliations and can earn you a direct berth. Quakerman indicates anyone can buy-in for these while another poster doesn't even believe the league can offer direct berths.

You are also playing for award which basically makes the league a tournament in itself. Champions receive $750 in team jackets. Other top finishers receive a nice award as well. Champions will receive these jackets irregardless of whether the division is full or not.

Not only could you play a league against very good competition, you could come away with more than you put in. What do you get for winning a tournament? A plastic trophy or medal that will collect dust. Why not get something substantial you can use?

Again, depending where you play will depend on whether you do any field prep. Not every field makes you do the work.

If its not for you, great, do what is best for your team. But I'm trying to offer consistent competition outside of tournament play and give something back to the teams that should be recognized for their accomplishment.

You should be commended for trying to help. I just have been around this a long time and there is a lot to getting the fields ready before games.
There was a time I had to do that before games, back in the rec days.

and as far as the berths i spoke of i meant the ASA/USA nationals, if you can call and get that berth let me now how

As far as competition just beause it is called a select league does not meen the level of competition will be equal.

The best way to go about this is play 2-3 weeks and then take the results and move teams around based on skill level and results (be honest) then match teams up based on this not age.

Let's explain it to him..

USSSA World Series berth = just ask
ASA Eastern Regional berth = just ask
USA/ASA berth = you better beat somebody and have a better weekend than 25 plus teams.

Prizes: I don't do trophies personally. They ARE dust collectors.. so we do agree on one thing ( I might like this guy afterall .. lol )

I give away what I call "stupid/crazy prizes".

Stupid comes from other TD's that said when I gave out uniforms and hoodies, etc.. " Well, that is just stupid. The teams aren't use to that ! Give them trophies. Something they are use to."

CRAZY comes from just me thinking that I can give out some great prizes to the girls that they can wear and really get use out of... but then again.. I had MORE teams entered into my tournaments when I gave out trophies than when I give out uniforms and Hoodies. GO FIGURE. (Quakerman setting at his desk with his reading glasses on shaking his head in amazement)

Last, but least, if you are paying $750.00 for 14 jackets or so... you are definately in the WRONG business.

I say go for it. If you try and fail, so be it. But at least you tried. I am sure QM has had his share of setbacks.

Look the pet rock was a stupid idea, but the end result was very successful.

You can make it successful. Wouldnt put to much stock in the replies here. They represent 1% of the travel ball in Ohio.

Yea, have at it.. I agree..... I'm just trying to save him the headache..... Go for it. I like people who think outside the box.

I think he made people wonder when he said giving berths away..like it was a big thing or something.

I agree..... have at it and give it everything you got. Trial and error. Just makes you tougher

Rental fields? Do you drag the fields and line them if rental fields? If they are free, do you have a drag so coaches can pull it around with a truck or car or do they need to bring their own drag? Bases and pitching rubber supplied or are teams suppose to bring their own ? Liner and chalk as well?

Don't leave us in suspense.

I don't plan on providing cheap jackets. A "quality" jacket/pullover or whatever a teams wants is $30-$40. Add in embroidery for the team's logo, names or numbers, and embroidery on the back for "League Champions" pushes it to around $50.

I agree, go for it. The replies here don't represent much. I would bet there would be plenty of interest. Not sure families would like double headers on a weeknight, at least not every week.

I agree that if it's a value... and worth it (little work-good competition)...for all the reasons aforementioned... like I said way back on this thread... I'd throw my hat in.

But to do all the work myself...hmmm.

The thought of fields off of I-75 sound pretty promising for many to make it work.

Coaches,

The CSL (www.cincyselect.org) is a great way to get good, consistent competition outside of your tournament play. A competitive league can actually be better than a tourney if it doesn't match up to your competition level (whatever that may be).

We also give some great awards, your paid affiliations to USSSA & ASA, and a website to for you to begin or replace/supplement your existing one.

If you are in need of a field let me know your location and I can assist finding a field for you or a common location for teams in your area. You can reach me at cincyselect@gmail.com

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday. Buckle Up!
