Bink:

Thanks for the news on Stephanie Sanders. Great family. DD played with Stephanie's older sister Amanda, who will be completing her softball career this spring at Ohio Wesleyan. It was clear when Stephanie was 12 that she too would be playing college ball. Coach Joseph grabbed a good one there.

Thanks Guys, It has been great with the softball families. It's always a great weekend when we catch up with at tournaments, near and far. She decided to a small school was the way she wanted to go, education, campus then softball. They think she'll be able to contribute right away and that's what she wanted. The friends she has made like Brit, Cody, Kim, Lauren, Stacey, Tori, and so on and so on will always be part of that family. Families like the Duncan's, Collier's,Pyle's, Abbruzze's, Jackson's, Englemanns, Lunsford's, Urton's and so on and so on have made these years fun. Coaches like Jack, Cliff, Henri, Dave Brittingham, Scott and so on have made her into the player she is today. The Campbell's Thank each and everyone for your friendships and hard work. We will miss this next year, but look forward to her last high school season and last year of full travel ball. Gary, Anita, Bethany.

Dad forgot my pitching coach. he didn't mean to miss her. Chis Minor, who I started with at 8 years old has been so great to work with and provided the best pitching instruction that I could have asked for. She has helped me in all aspects of pitching, mental game and defense. She also with helped me in my college search. Love Ya Chris !! "B"

I cut/paste the names from the other thread below and then sorted them by college committed to. I apologize if I missed any (there were some 2009s thrown in that confused things).

I count 31 commitments, and I believe 27 are to DI schools (not sure about a couple). 7 travel organizations contributed more than 1 athlete to the list. Pretty impressive ... it would be interesting to see how this stacks up with prior years.

Ashland University Kourtney Yarnall / Ice Poole / Perry HS
Bowling Green State University Adrienne Dick / Wolfpack / Delta HS
Bowling Green State University Katie Yoho / Valley Extreme Blue / Bishop Ready HS
Cleveland State University Brittani Newsome / Ohio Ice Short / GlenOak HS
Cleveland State University Hannah Kendrick / Miami Valley Xpress/ Middletown Madison HS
Detroit Mercy Karyn McCarty / SGS Magic White / Cabrini HS
Detroit Mercy Katelyn Steffel / SGS Magic White / Defiance HS
Detroit Mercy Lindsay Harrison/ Valley Extreme Blue / ?HS
Eastern Michigan Kayla Kostich / SGS Magic White / Cabrini HS
Francis Marion University (SC) Chelsea Vilk / Akron Sapphires / Mentor HS
Furman Lauren Collier / Miami Valley Xpress / Kings HS
Georgetown Taylor Koenig / Valley Extreme Blue / Walsh Jesuit HS
Kent State University Abbie Ledford / Wolfpack / West Liberty Salem HS
Kent State University Alex Marcantonio / Wolfpack / North Canton HS
Kent State University Caitie Kilbane / Central Ohio Ice / Westerville North HS
Kent State University Kim Morgason / Nightmare / Thomas Worthington HS
Kent State University Lauren McNeil / Wolfpack / Akron Hoban HS
Miami University (OH) Kaya Ledbetter / Classics / Gahanna Lincoln HS
Miami University (OH) Kirstie Fehrenbach / Lasers Aqua / Olentangy Liberty HS
Miami University (OH) Paige Meyers / Classics / Grove City HS
Middle Tennessee State Jordyn Fisherback / Nightmare / Greenville HS
Morehead State Steph Etter / Maddogs / Tuslaw HS
Niagara University Brittany Richberg / Buckeye Heat / Springfield Holland HS
Ohio State University Kasie Kelly / Lasers Aqua / Wooster HS
Ohio State University Melissa Rennie / Lasers Aqua / Wellington HS
Ohio University Erin Lashley / Classics / Pickerington Central HS
Presbyterian College (SC) Maggie Gilliland / SGS Magic White / Findlay HS
Providence Cory Rubrite / Ice Poole / Walsh Jesuit HS
University of Cumberlands Bethany Campbell / OFC Heat / Lebanon HS

University of Delaware Audry Plant / Wolfpack / Upper Arlington HS
University of Toledo Jen Solanics / Wolfpack / Columbia HS
Youngstown State University Haley Knight / Ohio Bandits / James A. Garfield HS
Youngstown State University Sarah Ingalls / Wolfpack / Youngstown Ursuline HS

So how many of these players are Pitchers vs. Position Players. It would be great to see that breakdown if anyone knows.

With 40 D1 Schollarships available form Ohio D1 Schools every year, this looks pretty positive that our local colleges are looking local. I expect this will only continue to grow now that Major D1 Colleges are looking at many of the kids that were at 14u Nationals in Georgia this last summer. Great sign that OH continues to gain on ground on West Coast & Southern competition.

Thanks to riots4 for putting together this comprehensive list of players!

Does anyone know if this is a typical year for Ohio, or has someone been around long enough to give us some numbers from past years?

Mantle, I have been on this site consistantly for three years and I have to say this might be the strongest class. I don't remember seeing this many DI players. Congrats to all the girls!

Heat29, thanks for the response. Wouldn't you agree that it would be so interesting, if some long time travel or high school coach had a comprehensive list of the past 20 years? Especially, if it was listed as well as riots4 2010 class listing? Who is OFC's eldest member, maybe he/she can help LOL.

This list of DI scholarships flies in the face of all the naysayers that claim an athletic softball scholarship is "out of reach" for most girls in Ohio. The athletic scholarships are well within reach of athletic kids who set goals and work SMART and HARD toward those goals, including practicing ON THEIR OWN outside of team practice, etc.

And we haven't even mentioned the DII and NAIA scholarships...

Original list posted on page 1 of thread is updated. In addition, here are a few facts related to some of the questions/ comments above:

- Total players listed is now 40, of which 34 are going DI (5 are DII and 1 is NAIA)
- 21 of the players are going to Ohio universities
- 9 of the 11 Ohio DI programs are represented (none for Akron or Wright State)
- I count 10 pitchers that I know of for sure (caveat: I am not familiar with about a dozen of these players so it is likely more)

It makes sense that so many of these are DIs at this early stage. I imagine that the list will balloon with DIIs, DIIIs, and NAIAs after all the DI programs have exhausted their schollies for the class of 2010.

The 40 DI scholarships available every year could be misleading. I have known of players in the past who have signed their letter of intent for $0 or were told that they start at $0 and future $$ depend on the impact they make on the team. If people sign a letter of intent for $0, then there could be more scholarships available.

I just wanted to take the time to say CONGRATS to all the young ladies who signed there NLI this week!!! :)

Also, I too would like to thank Dan for putting this list together for us! I knew going into this year, that this was a very deep and talented class. Hopefully we don't top out at 36 and a few more young ladies are signed and we just don't know about it yet!

Kasie is on the list already. Rachel and Holly are both in the class of 2009, so they're not on this list.

"Total players listed is now 37, of which 32 are going DI."

I used to keep track of this but due to computer "issues", only have the following:

2007 35 Ohio DI, 13 to non-Ohio DI
2008 18 Ohio DI, 15 to non-Ohio DI
2009 17 Ohio DI, can't find the non-OH numbers for this class.

Seems to me the 2005 or 2006 class was very large as well.

Does anyone know of a reliable recruiting website that would have this information for Coaches, as well as Players & Families. It is great to see so many of our OH girls reaching their goals to the next level and getting some money to do it. ^_^

However, I'm wanting to see whether the College Coaches truly only focus on P,C, SS, 2b, CF positions or if they are smarted then that knowing some of the most talented kids are in other positions for a variety of reasons and mostly within ELITE teams, you can have 5-6 kids that can play SS or CF.

Love to see the actually kids Travel Team Playing Position listed with the recruited position(s) Scholarship was offered for.

Checked a couple of Recruiting sites, but seems like some players are registered on one site and others on another and no-where to go and search on Ohio Prospects holistically to search and pull data..???????

Anyone know something I don't. (Chip, Joe A,........any advice?)

It would be great if we coul keep track of the all the girls going on to college ball. I know it has perked the interest of our dd. Although she did ask if there were any Ivy League schools in the south. So I guess that shows two of her criteria at age 13.

I don't think there are any sites that list all of this. If there are, I'd like to know about them.

I agree I like to see the travel team along with the high school team. For our 2010 roster that I'm hoping our SID will soon post on our site, I insisted that we get each player's travel team to put on there, or at least the travel team she considered herself to be most connected with.

Of course, we all in travel ball are guilty of having a player for one summer and listing her as ours when it comes time to report signings. Whether we have them for one summer or even several, girls end up playing college ball because they are good players, not so much because a coach or an organization made them a good-enough player. Coaches can help, but some really high percentage of the equation is simply the girl being a good player on her own.

JoeA / Bear ,

Maybe this is something that those interested in championing can take the reigns as an OFC Mission, much like the "No Girls Left behind" mission we have here on OFC.

Maybe this one can be "No Girls go unseen" or something like that with a vision/charter something like below:

Identify a couple of Major Recruiting Companies in Ohio or Midwest and research their services, success, and commitment to Colleges, Highschools, Travel Teams, and Families in which OFC promotes 1 o 2 of these as the PREMIERE Recruiting Firms suggested by OFC for Ohio Girls looking to be recruited.

Goals:
Developing Synergy between Recruiting Companies, Schools, Travel Orgs, & Families to provide services, data, and information for all involved in the recruiting process including historical data for everyone involved to empower higher valued College Searches/Recruitment activities.

RECRUITING DATA I WOULD LOVE TO PLUG INTO:
- Ohio Colleges with Ohio recruits
- US Colleges with Ohio recruits
- Ohio Recruits by Travel Org / High School,.....
- By position by Travel Org/Highschool
- Are there more positions getting developed or seen in one area of the state
then another.
- Recruits signed by Travel / HS Coach
- Ohio Recruits by position played vs. position(s) signed for
- Graduation % by College of it's Fast-pitch members by year / overall.
- Any information on Sexuality and Each Colleges philosophy on dealing with that in this age as it's a real issue for all players to deal with regardless of which side you fall on.

BTW Bear, just like in the real world those who have the idea are often assigned to it, so if this has merit/interest by others, Yes, I would be glad to be one of many that get on this mission to Aide our OFC Family's, Orgs, and Colleges that are looking for long term relationships with this sport and our dds.
