Congrats to all that have finalized their College Scholarships. Best of luck for the remaining players still working hard to secure their opportunity.

As for players listing what organization I agree with glsdimdone and roudyone. Yoho Vazquez Meyers should ALL be listed as Nightmare. I also feel that Fishback should be listed as OFC Heat. Its only a list, don't miss the most important parts. Ohio girls are getting the recognition ,because of the level of play by OHIO teams.

I'm just Happy for every girl currently on this list and still cheering and promoting girls not yet on this list. And that's where our efforts should be placed. Whether they play for me or against me I will promote players to College Coaches. PERIOD!!!!!!!
Thanks

...Well said Coach White. Although I don't personally know him, from what I've read here, I think he gets what being a coach is all about. Regardless of which organization any of the scholarship girls came from, it's not about celebrating the organization or it's coaches. It's about the players and their efforts, with the help of some coaches and of course their parents, that helped these girls get to where they are going. I'm sure every story is different and all the organizations helped to varying degrees. I don't think any organization should claim bragging rights to the success of these girls in order to help them secure future players. If a player is talented, she works hard and is seen by college coaches at the right time and place, it'll happen no matter who she plays for.

I agree to some extent...But an athlete looking to play at the next level is looking for a team that can get them there, not a team from "podunk" that has no reputation.

I know that Lake Erie College DII has signed 5 girls this early signing period. I'm not sure what postition or what travel team or high school they played for.

Fayth Atkins
Krista Haley
Lyndsie Hershberger
Sara Shields
Dawn Ondercin

Maybe someone can fill in the rest of the information

The cream will always rise to the top. Lots of young talented kids started out on that team from "Podunk", but as they "figured it out", and their ability became evident, they gravitated to the teams most often listed in this thread. Why? Because those teams have a history of showcasing their team members.

I don't think this list is growing as a result of the overall level of team play in Ohio. I think it's growing as a direct result of the increasing individual effort put forth by each athlete. Fewer girls are intimidated by the stereotype that college ball is out of reach.

If anything, the strong travel teams have grown stronger, and the huge influx of new teams/orgs. has lowered the level of play for the masses. But "numbers" is a great thing for the sport. As long as hard working talented players keep "bubbling up" to the top, the sport will grow.

I have coached those "podunk" teams for many years and have been so frustrated in how kids that play on those teams are overlooked and underrated until they step on the field with an established team or organization. I have never been upset with a player I have helped develop leaving for greener pastures. If you can't beat them then join them, especially if your looking to play at the next level.

Lady Knights -- I appreciate your honesty in regards to a player wanting to leave a team for an opportunity to play at a higher level. I feel that is actually having the players best interest at heart. Sometimes a coach takes it too personal and makes you wonder what his real intentions were.

While having the DD fill-out "Prospective Athletes Recruiting Form" for numerous colleges, it is very apparent that is all about playing in the right place ( tourneys ) and who you have played against. Many want to know names of the best players you have played against.

Does anyone know of a reliable recruiting website that would have this information for Coaches, as well as Players & Families. It is great to see so many of our OH girls reaching their goals to the next level and getting some money to do it. ^_^

However, I'm wanting to see whether the College Coaches truly only focus on P,C, SS, 2b, CF positions or if they are smarted then that knowing some of the most talented kids are in other positions for a variety of reasons and mostly within ELITE teams, you can have 5-6 kids that can play SS or CF.

Love to see the actually kids Travel Team Playing Position listed with the recruited position(s) Scholarship was offered for.

Checked a couple of Recruiting sites, but seems like some players are registered on one site and others on another and no-where to go and search on Ohio Prospects holistically to search and pull data..???????

Anyone know something I don't. (Chip, Joe A,........any advice?)
I think coaches now recruit athletes who can hit. Obviously pitchers and catchers are in a different boat from the other positions. Many college coaches know most good athletes can play most positions, but if they can hit, they will play, somewhere. I can not imagine a coach recruiting a non hitting center fielder over a great hitting right fielder. Most coaches do not look at positions as permanent. The needs of college coaches may change several times in a season due to injuries, slumps, grades etc. They need kids who can be flexable in the positions they play.

While that may be true in theory, it is not that cut and dried. Trust me the college coaches know who the top organizations are in summer ball. Sure there may be an occational stud playing for some podunk team, but generally speaking the cream rises to the top, and that means most kids getting the scholarships are normally playing for the top notch summer teams.
The top teams would be foolish if they do not use their success at helping kids get to college as a recruiting tool. Sure these top level summer teams are there for the kids, but they would not be top level teams if they did not recruit well and did not help numerous kids get into college softball.

Who you play for goes a long way in impressing college coaches. The college coaches also knows which summer coaches they can talk to and get the real scoop on a kid. Another thing. College coaches want kids who are battle tested. Playing for top notch summer organizations puts a kid in a position to play other top level teams with talent at every position.
It is tough enough to be seen by college coaches, one can triple that if they do not play for a top level team.

I guess I should have been more succinct in my comments as both Lady Knights and Punchout assumed differently than what I intended. I didn't state that a girl on any "Podunk" team can make it to the next level. What I did say was that if a player "is seen by college coaches at the right time and place, it'll happen no matter who she plays for." In order for her to be seen at "the right time and place", she would have to play at the top showcase tournaments and in which case she would have to be on a lot of the same top teams that are listed by the Scholarship girls names at the beginning of this thread. I don't disagree with that, I thought it was assumed.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. Didn't mean to take this thread off on a tangent. Punchout, your comments are dead-on as usual. Being on the right organizations certainly helps girls get noticed and gets their foot in the door with college coaches.
