College Softball Expectations

For my dd all the stars lined up - good scholarship package, nice team, great coach, just the right kind of school. Picking the school for her major and her idea of what college should be like - urban v rural etc - were the most important factors - coach / team next. The money didn't really matter as academically we knew there would be something from all.

If your dd decides which schools best suit her major and are attractive to her in terms of how they fit her picture of college, the rest should fall into place. Any school she didn't immediately feel comfortable at should be dropped. Is it too hilly, too small, too big, too close to a city, too far away from a city etc.............

Sad627 ... I really empathize with you and your daughter's situation. I know the process was stressful to my DD as well, and it's difficult making decisions like that when you're only 17 ... heck, it's hard when you're 27 or 47 as far as that goes. I realized part way through her process that she was trying to please me as well, especially since there was a fairly sizeable net cost difference between her 2 final choices, so I took that off the table for her. While it was a bit of a sacrifice for me, I knew it was something we could make work (I realize not everyone can do this), and the most important thing was that she be happy with her decision. As it all turned out, she completed her athletic eligibility last year and is now completing her last semester of academics, and is very happy with the way things turned out ... and so I am happy too, just a bit poorer financially ... but I know I'd still pay that money today in a heartbeat if I could ensure her happiness.

I will pray for you guys that things will become more clear for her very soon, and that she can get that decision behind her and really enjoy her last high school year and softball season.

Well said, coachjwb - helping my kid understand the budget and what I was willing to put towards it really did take a lot of burden off her shoulders. (and onto mine, just like you say!)
