We've all heard or read story's about College Softball player's being redshirted in college sports.

When it comes to softball player being redshirted what actually has to happen, what kind of guidelines do college coaches have to follow, what kind of guidelines do the players have to follow in order keep their eligibility?

Can a college coach actually use redshirting a player then use that in an unethical manner to gain some type of edge over his/her competition on the field or for recruiting purposes.

I'm really hoping that's some of the college coaches that are members will reply since they have a wealth of knowledge.

A player who redshirts still practices and participates in all team activities - they are just now allowed to participate in competition (games, tournaments, etc.)

A player that plays any part of the season - one inning - is not eligible for a redshirt.
