Wicked 09 - BIO

Wicked 09’ is a second year 10U team that consists of (11) girls, (4) of the girls are new to the team, (3) of them playing 10U for the first time. The team lost several girls and their head coach at the end of last season. Under the guidance of their new coaching staff, the girls have worked extremely hard this off-season to improve as players, teammates and people.

Wicked 09 started their winter season off by placing 2nd in the Phantoms Winter Bash in Garrettsville, OH. The team played well but learned that winning (4) games in one day is not an easy task, falling to Ohio Emeralds 09’ in the championship game.

The following weekend (Jan 4-5, 2020), Wicked 09 played in the USSSA National Qualifier, “Queens of the Turf” in Mount Vernon, OH. Due to not hitting the ball very well, Wicked 09’ finished pool play with a 0-1-1 record, falling to Ohio Storm 09’ 3-5 and tying Ohio Emeralds 09’ 1-1. Our record would force the team to play all of bracket play as the lower seed. Wicked 09’ defeated Central Ohio Pride 7-3 in their first bracket game, advancing to face #1 seed Lightning Blue 10U in the next round. Wicked 09’ and Lightning Blue 10U battled back and forth all game, ending regulation in a 2-2 tie and forcing an International Tie Breaker. The girls of Wicked 09’ fought hard, maintained their confidence and showed some mental toughness during the International Tie Breaker. Making minimal mistakes, Wicked 09’ defeated Lightning Blue 10U, who was undefeated in USSSA play, 3-2 in International Tie Breaker to advance to the final (4) of the tournament. Next up for Wicked 09’ was Ohio Storm 09’ whom we lost to in pool play. Wicked 09’ came out on top, 5-1, to advance to the championship game. In the championship game, Wicked 09’ faced Ohio Emeralds 09’, whom they lost the championship to in the Phantoms Winter Bash and tied in pool play of “Queens of the Turf”. After being told by their coach and realizing that winning (4) games in one day is not easy, the girls of Wicked 09’ decided they were up for the task. Behind a (1) hit shutout from their starting pitcher, Wicked 09’ scored (10) runs off (7) hits and had (0) errors in the championship game, becoming the 2020 10U “Queens of the Turf” and qualifying for USSSA post season play!

The girls of Wicked 09’ worked hard all week because they were not happy with their 2nd place finish the week before. As their coach, I am proud of everything I have stated above. I am even more proud that they never gave up on themselves or each other, and they showed good sportsmanship and respect to these teams and coaches that we have faced several times now.

2020 WK #8 Team of the Week (Lake Erie Warhawks 05)

index.php

(Left 2 Right) Autumn Behlke, Sam Peterkoski, Eliza Malony, Gianna Baynard, Brooke Kimball,
Makenna Ruoff, Morgan Leber, Erica Massey, Savannah Dixon, Kayla Vallee,
Anna Wise

The Lake Erie Warhawks 05 team won the 2020 USA Eastern Region Qualifier at Pinnacle Sports the weekend of February 15th - 16th. They outscored opponents 49-3 winning all 5 games. Working hard all winter with Coach Dixon and Coach Behlke, the girls bats were on fire while the pitchers shut down oppenent batters.
Based out of Oberlin, Ohio the team consists of girls all with 05 birthdays. All the girls live within a 30 mile radius of Oberlin. Each girl can play multiple positions effectively. Consistant hitting and power adds to the winning element. Three strong pitchers keeps batters guessing what kind of pitch is coming next?
During the 2019 season, the team went 37-9-1. During the fall/winter season, they went 20-2-1. For the 2020 season, which is their 2nd year of 14u, the girls plan to continue to improve on their softball skills and improve on their season record. There is no such thing as "Giving Up" for this group of girls.

2020 WK #10 Team of the Week (PA Stingrays 07)

index.php

PA Stingrays 07 dominated this past Sunday (March 8th) at the YSU Monster Invitational in Youngstown. The perennial event pulls some of the best regional teams together in the late winter single day event.

The stingrays outscored opponents 49-2 over 5 games in the Sunday event. The championship campaign was led by a huge batting including dingers from June McCune (2 on the weekend), Riley Miller and Claire Mitchell and supported by a team batting nearly .500. In addition to the superb offense is the equally impressive defensive effort that had pitchers Riley Miller, Cameron Ponko, McKenna Rowlands, and Morgan Griffin giving up just 6 hits in 5 games. This is aided by what could be one of the best fielding defenses in 12U anywhere.

The evening was capped by a punishing offensive performance against the Ohio Outlaws which saw 14 hits in 4 innings including a monster grand slam by catcher, June McCune. Leading the charge from the circle was Riley Miller who was white hot in a 4 hit, 13-2 victory.

2020 WK #11 Team of the Week (OC Batbusters Intherthal 14 under)

index.php

OC Batbusters Intherthal(14U) are a, highly competitive, regionally based, college prepatory team of elite players with graduation years of 2023 & 2024, based out of Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. Our Success is built upon a foundation of work ethic and attention to detail. Our goal is to physically and mentally challenge and prepare every girl on our roster for the next step in their softball careers and in life as well.

Batbusters utilized the success of their 13U season as a launch pad into 14U. As a 13U squad Batbusters had an overall record of 66-34-2 with 7 tournament championships and two second place finishes. Using this baseline the OC Batbusters have already achieved the following successes this year while playing the increased competition of a national showcase / PGF heavy schedule:

* Current record of 39-11 (.780)

* Only 14U team from OH or PA to win a PGF tournament

* 4 tournament championships, 2 second place finishes

* Qualified for PGF Regional Championships, USA Softball Nationals, and USSSA Nationals.

* Statistically speaking we have year over year:

Increased our team AVG & OBP by 60 pts

Doubled our Home Run count

Increased team SLG by 130 pts

Thrown out 4X as many would be basestealers

Are on pace to score almost 800 runs this season (7.86/g) a 33% increase.

* Fielding arguably one of the strongest pitching staffs in the region, allowing 2.75 Runs/Game over 50 games

*Team achieved a milestone 100th victory as Batbusters this February.

Week #27 Team of the Week Ohio SlamForce 10U

index.php

From L to R

Front: Zoe Roberts, Callie Koons

Middle: Lily Hayes, Miley Pitts, Payten Kekel, Dae Sun McGaughy

Back: Gracelyn Schultz, Zoe Metzger, Brinsley Hiscox, Cailyn Fritz

This is Ohio SlamForce 10U, we challenged ourselves with the restart and played a little above our ability level at the “Emeralds 09 Friendly.” As coaches, though, we saw a change in the girls. They were starting to compete! The following two weekends we went 5-5 overall and finally the run differential is starting to go our direction. Our core group of 9 is staying strong, as we have lost a few along the way. We believe in the “WE before ME” mentality and could not be more proud of how far our girls have come!
