You think something like this could affect future scheduling of OOC games?

I would hope so. Because to me, it's hard to ignore the likelihood that the OOC nature of this game, coupled with the fact that RMU tried to get YSU to change the agreement to playing only 1 game with YSU refusing (and rightfully so) played a very large role in HC all of a sudden deciding at the end of the 4th inn that they could go no further. And some of the defenses offered here have been comical. No one is suggesting the death penalty for this guy or making any comment about his long career, for better or worse. It was a clear cut d*#& move, plain and simple. Hopefully he has taken full responsibility and will move forward in better faith.

I couldnt even tell you where RM is located but this guy sounds like an absolute snake. Don't care how many years he's been there or his fancy Dr. title . Theres a simple reason why this type situation is 99.9 % unheard of , no one clearly thinking would pull such a stunt. If he has had a stellar career he sure screwed it up with this move and it might be time to hang up the cleats.

Not trying to hijack but what happened to Sleith? Was she hit in the face when she was younger? It appears to have healed but still extremely noticeable.

Suprised she isn't wearing a mask.

Check that, looks Dan might be suggesting the death penalty!

Of course it is unfortunate that he didn't have a couple of healthy pitchers or couldn't get another inning completed, let alone forfeit an entire game. I'm sure he balanced all that against protecting a player. I'm sure he didn't think twice about the choice between that and his reputation or his legacy. He would protect the player.

He paid the price without excuse, taking full responsiblity.

Id be more forgiving if he struggled thru 3 more outs , It wasn't like it was 28-0 or 32-0 , yeah he was getting his butt handed to him but it wasn't out of control. Teams get beat like that every week.

Cards ... I think I may have misunderstood your question ... if you're asking if RMU might have difficulty scheduling out of conference games in the future, I would imagine the answer would be yes. I'd certainly be hesitant, though perhaps with his tenure and some good relationships he has presumably built over time, he may be OK ...

why so bitter people, you should give him a call and talk to him and you can see there was no ill intent from the man. He truly is a class act, and well respected by numerous peers, and he has done wonders for the travel ball community in western pa.

In hind site, he would probably have went one more inning, but what is it to you posters on here, its truly doesn't concern you. The only people on here with a gripe should be team members of YSU.

As for an earlier question, yes the pitcher from Ohio who was a freshman Nicholette Maderitz is no longer with the team, its a personal issue as to why she's no longer with the team, it had nothing to do with RMU. Their emergency back up option was a walk on Mary Funderlich, but she decided to focus on her studies since she wasn't getting any money to play and it was taking away from her academics so she decided on academics as her best choice.

I personally know several of the girls on the rest of the team and I don't know any of them with any pitching experience

As for Nicole his #1 pitcher, she has battled back problems in the past and has some scoliosis , and just maybe he's looking to rest her and give her some rest because she has been working so very hard pitching every conference game. As for the other poster, Nicole wore a mask when she was growing up through the years, and when she got to college she decided to take off the mask. No she has never been hit in the face with a pitch, he has had that since birth.

Good luck Bobby Mo!

Thanks for the back-up -

I understand how diffacult it is when you see what looks like an easy target to attack - "Team down 14 forfets"
But sometimes there are other extenuating circumstances that change everything.
Trust me my first thought was many of the posters first thought -
But knowing Dr Coleman's reputation I knew there had to be more to it and when I looked in to it I understood why he did what he did.

He took the bullet for his girls.

Thanks TPC. I really appreciate the info. Props to this young lady for being incredibly productive versus hiding away. Props to her parents too.
In reading some of her info; it appears she has had a great career and is thought of highly by the league.

IMO, this is WAY more important than the forfeit.

Wow the excuse wagon is working double time .. And yes the opinion of lots of moms and dads who use this board for information and might have been considering RM as a choice -- I'd say their opinion matters . The thought he was saving his players is asinine .

Since we are breaking new ground here with the quitting is there any other coach in America who drops the title of coach in favor of Dr. ? Maybe there is , seems pretentious to me .

Run26, Nicole is an awesome young lady, top shelf indeed, she actually helped us out with our 18U team last summer a bit. Outstanding young lady who is one of best to ever come out of our area. She had UCLA beat last year at their place, as they where up 2-1, in the bottom of the seventh inning, they had 2 outs and they unfortunately had a pop up dropped by a infielder that would have gave them the upset win, UCLA was ranked #2 in country at the time, they lost in extra innings 3-2 I believe. She was also ranked as one of the top ten pitchers in the entire DI level in the NCAA to start season.

As for next year, they have 2 more pitchers coming in, Kaity Ellzy from Cadiz, and another young lady from Eastern PA area. They are also looking for a JUCO recruit possibly to replace the one they lost this season unexpectedly.

For you that continue to bash, the riggors of pitching a complete game at the DI level, is much more harder than pitching a simple timed travel ball game. The season is a grind at the DI level and if you aren't deep in pitching its very difficult.

FWIW I'm not " bashing" the Dr's entire body of work , I've never heard of him . My opinion is he blew this one situation horribly . Teachers , moms n dads , coaches , we all try to beat into our kids head " one small bad choice " ( tweet , FB post, instagram shot at a party etc etc ) can have huge and unintended consequences .

Yes, how dare we, the members of a discussion board about Ohio Fastpitch Softball, be so bold as to discuss the unprecedented and highly irregular actions of a college coach, in a game involving an Ohio team with players from Ohio on both rosters. Outrageous!!!

I'd wager to guess that some of the posters here could well be parents of players involved ...

Not it!!!

Nor do I mean anything personal against those that might be or the program they are associated with if you're alluding to RMU parents. Great accomplishment for them and their DD's. At the same time, not a big fan of being told I shouldn't be talking about it because it isn't my "concern" either.

I know I would have been extra PO'd had I driven to the games, my DD pitched the second game, and then didn't get the win! Again, my opinion is that the coach really screwed this up, is paying the price for it, and that the NCAA could choose to fix the stats issue if they wanted to. And I definitely think it's fair game for discussion by this Forum, and people are allowed to have their opinions on both sides of it. I do consider seriously the complimentary things that have been said about the coach from some people who appear to know him first-hand, and my opinion is that a good guy made a bad decision ... God knows I have made a few in my days ...

I don't have a dog in this fight but how about this for a 5 minute, six pitch "solution"??? Have 3 YSU batters go to the plate. Throw them meatballs, have infielders play back and let them bunt. Bunt single so their batting average doesn't suffer. Leave base early. 3 outs. Have 3 RMU batters go to the plate, have them bunt while stepping on the plate or slap while being out of the box. Their batting average suffers slightly but it is their team that chose to quit so perhaps that is a fair penalty. This might not be entirely kosher but it sure seems to me to be better than what actually happened.
