the NCAA could choose to fix the stats issue if they wanted to.

As a former college athlete, I will say the chances of that are nil, even if it is the right thing to do. I was shocked the NCAA allowed Mt. St. Joe's Girls Basketball team to start 2 weeks early for Lauren Hill.

Cards ... I think I may have misunderstood your question ... if you're asking if RMU might have difficulty scheduling out of conference games in the future, I would imagine the answer would be yes. I'd certainly be hesitant, though perhaps with his tenure and some good relationships he has presumably built over time, he may be OK ...

That is what I was thinking, He will most likely still get contest but this could result in additional travel for RM to get games in.
After So Cals post and the original post I would think teams scheduling RM out of confrence would make sure it was a home contest for them.

Id be more forgiving if he struggled thru 3 more outs , It wasn't like it was 28-0 or 32-0 , yeah he was getting his butt handed to him but it wasn't out of control. Teams get beat like that every week.
More forgiving , He didn't commit murder he was protecting his players , Everyone seems to forget this isn't rec ball these girls can hit If he brings in someone who throws a meatball up there and some player drives it right back in her face , Yes no one likes to see a team surrender maybe he asked all the players and they were ok with it get the facts first.

This is D1 softball - the highest there is for college level. It just can't happen .. the fact it is so rare tells you that it is the last thing any coach wants to be boxed into doing. Could you imagine a D1 football program pulling the team because they have no QB or were getting killed .. as a coach and team you have to suck it up and finish in some manner - pulling your team is not an option, it hurts the integrity of the game not to finish.

It would be easy for a team like in this link to quit but they did not and ended up with a W...

One would think a team with some success would want to use a situation like this as an opportunity to "rise above or work through adversity".
Since most of these ladies will be done after college what they will have left is the memories.

What sounds like a better memory?
"We were down to no pitchers so, I stepped in and completed the game"....
"I remember a time where we had to quit"...

Harley you are correct; DI College softball is not recreational ball. It is called competitive sport and it is played by individuals that have a strong drive to compete.
I doubt any coach will be recruiting players to play at such a high competitive level that would be "Ok" with quitting... In my opinion the coach may have been surprized by the "will to play" from his players if ,he had just gave them a chance....Over the years I have had to say this a couple times..."Ok ladies, who wants to pitch"...

Dodger ... yes, I see this as a good topic for the radio show as well, though I am highly doubtful we could get the coach to come on.

I have never heard of this before. As a former D1 pitcher I would never want to have to forfeit due to fatigue. I have been in the fatigued pitchers shoes, pretty much my whole career in college. Injured pitchers and then have to pitch game after game after game!!! It was horrible on my arm and my mental game, as well as my defense. I believe each coach tries to do what is rt for their pitchers and players. sometimes right, sometimes wrong. Coaching is tough and the NCAA did what they needed to do. Too many times we judge others decisions too harshly. and forget we are all human !!

Have had to deal with the "Dr." several times (other DD played soccer for RMU). Just my 2 cents, but there is no doubt in my mind that protecting his pitcher was NOT the reason for his actions...period. Unlike many, I have very little respect. Best of luck to the team.

You can't tell me she pitched 11 innings and was so fatigued she couldn't go one more unless she was hurt too. Like someone said teams get beat like that every day all day. And several ladies go out and throw 4-5 games in one day in sweltering summer heat so for a d1 school to forfeit is not a good thing in me eyes

Depends. If a girl uses her legs in pitching then yes. But I see a lot of girls using only their arms and dying after one game. Yes they get the nice drive forward, but stop for arm circle and not follow through.

Don't disagree completely but one more inning? C'mon

As much as I love that C'mon, have to disagree here. That one more inning could ruin a girl's shoulder.
Again I would agree if it said she had shoulder injury or pain but she was just tired. I realize injuries can happen more so when you are tired but I'm sure catchers are fatigued quite often as well. Just seems odd but I'm not saying the guy is a bad guy because I don't know him. So maybe it is the only reason he stopped it.

He is a good guy. That's why I think there's more to it. I know when I take my dd out to the fields and she tells me her arm is gone, we stop immediately. No more pitching, overhand throwing, etc and she uses her legs more than her arms.

May be no more complicated than he just forfeited because of that. Maybe rash decision and maybe he regrets it.

Most D1 rosters have a few former pitchers on them, a little surprised that there was nobody that could toss an inning or two.
