Everyone’s aware that college softball fanbase growth over the last 10 years has been tremendous. I believe 2020 will have a dramatic affect in 2021 to continue growth.

Teams that aren’t playing-even the usual exhibition games this Fall-could see some decrease in the fan base. They will certainly lose fans if there’s no team on the field in spring of 2021. The interest is certainly there though in an ever-growing fan base so that loss could be only short term hopefully. Bama, LSU, Ohio St., etc. will still put a top product on the field- assuming they play in the Spring . It’s the middle and lesser DI schools’ softball programs that will be significantly hurt if those schools’ football programs cannot bring in the cash to provide funding for other sports. Also, as challenging as it is to obtain a softball college scholarship, it may become an even bigger challenge to sign with a school offering a financially viable softball program.

The popularity is indeed growing but I think that due to the pandemic and all sport events would see a tremendous drop in viewership because people will concentrate on something one and drop al other competitions!
