Just a guess here but I am thinking its Ohio Ice Black since their tryout at Spano was Aug 5th for 14u

14u Ohio Ice-Black = We have a very athletic and talented group returning from a strong 2014 season. Two of our pitchers must move to 16U, so we are looking for strong pitchers to fill that void.

That was my guess too, and they really don't have anyone returning. If there is one, I would be shocked. But that's not the fault of the new coach. Give the organization credit for making a change when they needed to. But the tryouts are on the new crew!

Went to our first try out of the year and was a bit disappointed. The girls from the previous year’s team were there in their uniforms - seven of them. So that told me they are looking for three to four players. All the girls who were trying out had to perform stretching and running drills except for the said girls - said girls were joking around and not taking it serious. The coaches seemed to be ok with it as they were joking around with them. I’m all for having fun and such, but when they were clearly getting in the way and almost impeding the girls trying out, well that left a sour taste. We were asked to come back for a second look, but I politely declined. Thanked them for their time and wished them luck. This was 16u.

I can see how that might irk you a bit, but I doubt it would both me to such a great extent that I would not give the team a chance if I otherwise thought going into the tryout it would be a good fit. I might reconsider if the girls and coaches were so obnoxious that they were outright rude to the girls trying out or seemed to highly favor or talk about some attendees while clearly giving off a "bad" vibe to others.
As a parent looking at teams, I really like when the girls who are on the team are at the tryout - but trying out right along side of everyone else (as space and time permits). It gives me a great chance to see exactly how my daughter compares. It also lets my daughter get a really good feeling about what the girls are like. We went to one tryout and she really clicked with the players. They were extremely friendly and I almost had to pull her away when we were done because she was in a long conversation with one of the girls. That makes a big difference. I also like to see how the coaches interact with the girls. A little kidding around is ok in my book. On the other hand, all kidding around makes me wonder how much work will get done. On the extreme, if I see coaches getting too friendly- like hitting a girl's butt (which I did see) - we are out of there.

I agree, I think it's dumb to have the players that already know they have a spot to show up for tryouts. I have seen it too. They goof off and act like princesses. The coaches do to. It's almost a huge staged spectacular for all to see.

I don't think the Ohio Ice needs to be worried about some negative publicity on OFC. Just because they were alluded to and then essentially called out on this forum, I would be not surprised that they got at least some of the girls they were looking for and wont have any trouble filling the team. Ice has a great reputation, and I know they have quality coaches (ahem.....Klump.... ahem).
An experienced coach can learn a lot by a girls swing, the way she carries herself, her throwing/pitching/fielding mechanics, and often times needs about 3-4 reps to know what she/he needs to know to bring the player back for another look. I'm sure that mom is mad, but I wouldn't rule a team out just because the tryout was disorganized. BTW if you feel like DD did not get a fair shake, arrange a private.

Trust me, I'm not mad at all. I was disappointed in the quality of the tryout from such a well-known organization. Tryouts are not only a chance for coaches to evaluate players, but also for the player/parents to evaluate the coaches and organization. Based on what I saw I wouldn't request a private tryout because I would not want my dd to play there!! Based on the tryout, SHE doesn't want to play there!! I'm not saying the entire organization is bad or even that these particular coaches are bad...I was surprised/disappointed in the lack of structure/organization of the tryout Maybe they weren't prepared for that number of girls (but if you're part of well know organization, why wouldn't you be?), maybe they already knew who they wanted, maybe they thought it WAS a good, productive tryout...I don't know. Since this is the place to rant...that's what i'm doing because I drove an hour to get there, spent 2 1/2 hours there, then drove an hour home...and my dd didn't even break a sweat as she stood around for most of the tryout! And I'm not the only one that felt this way!!! Two random parents that I've never met before shared their thoughts with me as well as three parents of kids my dd knows...and the opinions were all the same!! I wish the team and the organization the best of luck...they usually have pretty solid teams.

Julie and Kirk are great people and excellent coaches but they had nothing to do with the 14U tryout last night they coach different ICE teams. Just saying... :)

I will say most try outs I've been at have been productive and informative. Coaches put a lot of time in effort into this process - IMO

Powerpuff, relax I don't have a bone in this argument I've just known Julie and Kirk for a long time and they are great people and excellent coaches. I think you took my post the wrong way so let me explain. The coaches for the 12U and 16U that were brought up and complimented by Lewan and yourself have nothing to do with the tryouts in question or that people had issues with. It's not a reflection on the organization that the tryouts were bad but instead of a particular team that had the tryout and I just wanted to make that point. I wasn't at the tryout, I don't have any association with the organization that conducted the tryout I was "just saying" let's not judge the organization but the team in question that conducted the supposedly horrible tryout. :) For all I know it could have been a great tryout, it really doesn't matter to me one way or another if they had a great or horrible tryout. LOL
