They just cancelled the British Open today. I think we are being optimistic about this summer. How sanitary are the port o pots, concession stands and hotel stays ?

I still feel in my gut it is way to early to tell here. I get there are some pretty big tournaments. However, these are all held outdoors in summers months and typically pretty spread out. We cannot look at what professional sporting leagues do. They are in a much more confined space. That being said we will be at the mercy of what the federal and state governments come up with and when they will start to relax the whole mass gathering order. Still holding out hope and looking forward to a summer full of softball.
What's your opinion on social distancing in the dugouts. I think that's a concern no one has mentioned. The players really cant sit out along the fence with the numerous foul balls at most of the park's.

No, they certainly couldn't sit along the fence, but there would be much more to it. Tag plays, heck most if not all batter's stand within 6 feet of the catcher. Not to mention catcher to umpire distance. That is where the relaxation of social distancing at the Federal or State government would have to come into play. No TD will put on a tournament in my opinion if the current guidelines are still in place. (not to mention mass gatherings) These stay at home and social distancing rules certainly appear to be helping. My thought is by the end of the month we should have a better understanding of where we will be and hopefully we can still have Jun-Aug to play. I'll now get crucified for this statement, but we can't social distance for 12-18 months at minimum while everyone works on a cure, vaccine, what have you.

I get it. But i'm going to keep being optimistic for my 10U DD who asks everyday when are we going to go to school and when can I play with my team again. Also, where those things even sanitary to start with?;)

i believe the social distancing ban will not be lifted for a while , in which i see the summer in real turmoil , think about it the camps, swimming pools are closed this summer , do you actually think they'll allow 3000 people gather at tournaments ? where if 1 person is infected and not showing any signs the possibility to infect all these people ? and have the virus number start to increase again! and like above stated the ump to catcher and catcher to batter distancing something i haven't even thought about , and the port a pots that seem to usually run out of hand sanitizer within the 1st 8hrs of the tournament .If they can even find sanitizer by then . its a hard decision to be made by organizations what to do and how long do we wait

Do your research..

"the U.S. is in "Phase 1" of a four-phase pandemic, explaining that the American public should only focus on successfully social distancing from group activity at this time, while health officials ramp up testing and the infrastructure of hospitals to treat at-risk patients. If a city or state is able to record a sustained decline in new cases for 14 days, Gottlieb's report suggests that they can move onto "Phase 2," in which schools and businesses may reopen, although remote activities should continue if possible and gatherings should still be limited to fewer than 50 people."

It's very possible we could be in Phase 2 by May.. As stated, we can always go back to phase 1 if need be but we can't just hunker down until phase 4. That would be detrimental to the economy and hurt more people than the virus has..

Agree if they are talking college football may be in jeopardy!! i dont see summer tournaments happening

Reading all the other sports that will be in jeopardy due to coronavirus I’m just not feeling softball in any form until we get a handle on the coronavirus.

I'm still Holding out hope for Summer ball. maybe late June or early July and play though August. Maybe the summer will be more smaller local tournaments. Big difference in having 30,000 fans into stadium compared to maybe 50-100 people outside at a local field.

I watch governor Dewine press conferences every day ,and Dewine and Dr. Acton are simply stating even at Ohio's peak and down turn we will still have to maintain the social distancing and other guidelines to prevent this from starting back on a up swing I understand this is unfortunate for everyone but its Life over Softball is the important thing

The problem here though is and this is not a softball thing. We know it is coming based on how early Ohio started social distancing. We will be social distancing and be under a stay at home order till there are no new cases for X amount of time. By doing this Ohio's economy will be completely crushed and we will dealing with that for years. Not to mention no one knows the life cycle of the virus will it come back or if there were be a vaccine or such available at some point. I will continue to hold out hope for softball this year, well, because why not.

IF schools go back May 4, I wonder when they would be finished? Most districts are done around Memorial day. Would they actually go back for 3-4 weeks or would they go thru June?
