I'd have to once again go over the ASA Code but I'm pretty sure that once you participate in "championship play" at the A level (and remember, that is defined to include playing in a qualifier, whether or not your team wins), you cannot drop down to the B level for championship play.

I tend to agree with CGS's reply based on this applicable code:

Article 507 (H) (03) (page 67 pdf)
d. Girls? Class B Fast Pitch. Teams and players who participate in Class A tournaments, or higher, that lead to a National Championship Finals, shall not be eligible to participate in the Class B competition. Girls? Class B teams must be made up of players who participate in the same league.

EXCEPTION: A Girls? Class B Fast Pitch team that participates in a higher classification National Qualifier must comply with Article 507 (B) (02).

ASA Code is being very specific when it refers to National Qualifiers, so this exception does not apply to other qualifiers like the one in question.

Another section bars teams from playing in multiple classifications (e.g. age/class) within a division (e.g. Girls Fastpitch), even though they make an exception in another.

Article 501 (C) (page 49)
02. Team Participation. A team may register and participate in more than one division of play, but that team is limited to only one classification within a division of Championship play.

ASA delegates most of the administration of team classification to local associations and regions (see Article 507 A-E). You should contact your local association if you're really interested in playing in this tournament.

OK, I'm really confused. It will be wonderful to see the Lasers Black 14U as part of the competition (and they are surely talented enough to win the whole thing), but is this team committed to playing ASA 16U for all of the 2011 season after 16U Strongsville? Because, as I understand it, that is the effect of entering 16U.

I don't post this to run Lasers Black out of the 16U tourney, but to ask whether the team understands the effect of this decision. If it does, we'll look forward to attempting our first win over this fine, fine team.

CGS,
That is exactly why they asked us to move them to 16u. They are playing 16u States and must finish at 16u after that.

Great move for Lasers Black. We will look forward to seeing them both at 16U States and 16U Strongsville, along with some other 16U tournaments, I'm sure. A little birdy also told me that Lasers Black is looking to play the Premier 14U nationals. There couldn't be a better representative of Ohio at that tournament.

Premier decided to invite 10-12 14u teams last week and it looks like Lasers Black got an invite because they appear on the list of qualified teams that have started registering for the National Championship.

 Yes, the Lasers held tryouts this Winter here in SoCal and based on what I've seen here on OFC, we decided to ship her off to Ohio to play this summer. We're very happy they got an invite to Premier so we can at least watch her play here. :lmao:

Actually, my DD's team played Lasers Black almost 2 years ago at ASA/USA Nats in their first pool game and I found this website while looking them up. Her team wants to qualify for Premier this year, so we're anxious to see which teams got invites because it affects our chances for qualifying.

Was wondering how the califorina thing was tied to Ohio, now I understand. :D:yahoo:

Looks like they're doing what Eagleone said in a post last November...
If we qualify to Premier we may play up in the qualifiers since we would skip ASA Nationals

Still looking at 1:30 pm for first pool games on Friday? I'm guessing yes because you have the College Showcase scheduled, but just wanted to check before sending that information out to our families.

I hope to get atleast pool schedules out on the Saturday or Sunday before the tournament and as long as there are no major changes to team entries I should be able to have bracket schedules as well.

Grand Slam 12u needs to drop out. Commissioner said we will forfeit our bid because we have already qualified for ASA/USA Nationals and will get a refund.

There are going to be a bunch of teams that will be forced to drop out of this tournament because of the commissioner's decision to exclude all teams that have already qualified for a national berth. After States this weekend, there will be four more in each age group forced to drop out. Horrible decision by our commissioner. See 16U States thread for details.
