Looking forward to seeing many of the strong teams we saw at Sluggerfest. Hopefully the weather will cooperate more this year than it did last year;&

Good luck to everyone...looking forward to more great softball!

Thanks to the 10U Lasers Purple and 10U PA Roadrunner teams for picking up an extra Pool Play Game. Also, I would like to welcome the Crush Fastpitch 16U team, a recent addition, filling a void left when a team could not attend.

bgsufalcon86 - I have requested sunshine for the whole weekend (of course I did the same thing last year)

Regardless, I can tell you that the multitude of volunteers are gearing up to serve the players, coaches, fans, college coaches, etc... Rain or shine we will try our best to make this tournament the most competitive, best run tournament in Ohio.

One thing to note:

Lewis Center Road - just east of Olentangy High School (14U site) is closed for road construction. This would affect anyone who wants to go from Olentangy High School (14U site) to Olentangy Orange High School or Middle School (2 of the 6 16U sites). The simple solution is to take Rt 23 south to Orange Rd and then go east.

GAPSS always busts their humps to get the games in, even if it means playing at 2:00 in the morning, which is one thing our girls still talk about years later :) They at least try to get the games in when mother nature wreaks havoc. Hopefully the same this year as they work very hard to make it happen.

This email was sent to all GAPSS team coaches this evening. I wanted to make sure everyone knew about the changes in venues for GAPSS. The updated pool play schedules and elimination brackets will be made available on the website shortly (they were emailed to the coaches).

Coaches:

Attached are SIGNIFICANTLY revised 16U and 18U pool play schedules and double elimination brackets (slightly revised 14U pool play schedule as well).

I am sorry that such drastic changes were required at such a late date, but just today I learned that the Orange High School and Orange Middle School fields, planned to serve as major 16u sites, would be rendered virtually unreachable and unusable on Saturday because of a community-based July 4th race, parade and concert.

Instead of trying to just deal with the situation and in my opinion causing teams, spectators and umpires with a great deal of frustration trying to navigate the traffic, road closings and parking, I made the decision to recast the entire tournament eliminating Orange High School and Orange Middle School as sites.

The new field plan is as follows:

10U Wyandot Run Elementary (no change)
12U Arrowhead Elementary + 3 games at Shanahan Middle School (no change)
14U Olentangy High School Varsity, JV and Shanahan Middle School + 3 games Hyatts Middle School Baseball (change)
16U Liberty Park, Liberty Middle School Softball and Liberty Middle School Baseball (change)
18U Liberty High School Varsity, JV, Hyatts Middle School Softball, Hyatts Middle School Baseball (change)

The advantage of this new plan is the proximity of the fields to one another. The disadvantage of this plan is that now some games will be played on two dirt baseball fields which will have a raised dirt mound between the softball rubber and second base and no 200ft homerun fences.

Taking that into consideration, I shuffled pool play field locations (not times) so that no team had to play more than 1 game on a baseball diamond (exception 14U). However, I obviously can't have any impact on DE bracket games.

Although this change is not ideal, I hope you understand that our goal is to make this tournament an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. And I don't believe we would have achieved our goal by asking teams, college coaches and spectators to navigate the community July 4th race, parade and concert.

For those staying in hotels in the Polaris area, on Saturday July 4th from 9:00 to 1:00 Old State Rd will be closed for the July 4th parade. I would suggest that you go North on Rt 23 to access all fields.

I was looking on the GAPSS website and couldn't find anything about where the teams are to register on Friday morning. Will there be something at each "site", or do we have to go to a common place to register, which may or may not be where we are playing?

Thanks

I've seen you coach without beer, yikes... I know, I know, it calms your nerves.:lmao:

Can you believe it, I could actually have good weather for my farewell tournament as TD (did I say that out loud)?

Let's keep our fingers crossed.
