would somebody please send an official invite to the static and doom teams. we really want to play them this weekend. The ICE and lasers orange team...oh and who could forget THE nitro. that would make for a nice field of teams in a "friendly" environment.

What happens at fight club...stays in fight club.

by the way fps 1597...what are you, when you are doing what doesnt matter, the other 95% of the time?

Doom98 is there this weekend. We got in as soon as we heard about it early this year I think. Our schedule is posted on our Facebook fan page not the website.

Dugout Dad I am usually just relaxing :)

Ice and Laser Orange are both in Poland this coming weekend - Looks like you have awesome team list though. Loved the "friendly" this past weekend in Mt. Gilead.

Looking at the respective teams websites, Static is scheduled to be in Pigeon Forge this weekend, but Doom has an open weekend.

Yes we are in Pigeon Forge this weekend. The pool of teams for this "friendly" is impressive. I know we are getting tested right out of the shoot in TN as our first pool play game is the Frost Falcons. Team Synergy is also there which is another excellent team. They have not told me who our second PP game is yet. Looking to get back on track this weekend after our de-railment in Sunday finals. Good luck to all & again, congratulations Doug / Hawks on your Beavercreek title.

See everyone in Dayton.

Good luck down there this weekend Kavin ... would love to see an OH team get down there and do some damage... please let us know who you guys play and a brief rundown on the team - would be good to file away for a later time when one of us might meet up with them.

Will do Doug. I believe there are 8 - 10 teams down there but the TD does not make the entries public. The Doom '97 played down there a couple of weeks ago & face some really good competition. Maybe Gopher The K can give you the low down on the teams they faced. I know he told me the TN White Lightning had a girl throwing mid 50's & had been clocked in the upper 50's from what he heard.

question for you Kavin and others... Do you ever seriously scout a team.. Make noted on hitters and pitchers down to tracking at bats? We wanted to last weekend but can't find the time to do it right. I really have not seen a TB team yet that does beyond just watching and making afew mental notes. Like don't groove it to #44... We want to start to scout better but can't get moving on it.

I'm not a coach, but if my DD isn't playing I try and watch as much ball as I can. Not serious scouting, but just mental notes as you suggest. If I see something I feel might be helpful, I'll pass it along to the coaches.

I think if you were to try and do some serious scouting it would take a great deal of time, and perhaps need to involve multiple people. You would need to watch individual teams, and players, multiple times to gather enough information to identify trends, strengths, weaknesses, etc. IMO.

It sounds like a good idea if the resources were available .

We had decided to try and scout you guys and the SGS Magic before the tourney... but when it came down do it - I watched about 2 innings (and the ITB) ... I think you are right, it would be best to assign to someone knowledgeable ... it really would be interesting to have a pitching plan against a team - at least their best players ... just not enough time .. that I have to get a hot dog between games or I am no good... lol.

Would be interested to hear from any team that actually makes an honest effort.

I also think that if you are going to scout a team, it has to be when they are playing a similar level team. That would make the information gathered more meaningful. For example, you would expect an "A" level hitter to excel against "B" level pitching.

Some of the basics though, can be identified against any level of competition. Things like speed on the basepaths, pitching speed, movement pitches, defensive range, etc.

As you & Merlion mention, it really does come down to who the team your scouting is playing at the time. You can get really fooled on a team if you do not keep that in mind. For scouting, you really have to have knowledgeable personel to do it right. There are times during our games given situation, we will have one of our coaches go watch another team especially if our game times are overlapping. While the girls are getting their breaks between games, we are always watching other play to understand them better & learn things as well from them on how they defense certain situations. Knowing these little things allows me to know what they will do if I do "A" "B" or "C." There are a lot of coaches that will always do the same thing regardless of whose on base or hitting & when I play them I try to use this as an advantage for our team.

Also, I really think the players should be watching the games as well when they are not playing. I definitely think they need their downtime in between games, but I also think that part of their time should just be watching teams play or the next team they are playing. I can't wait until one of my girls comes to me voluntarily & tells me that player X can't hit the change or she a dead pull hitter etc. When that happens - it will be a glorious day :)

Just talked to the tourney director & here is the list of teams in our tourney this weekend:

Team Synergy,
Lady Blazers,
Mountain Thunder,
Frost Falcons,
Smokey Mountain Elite,
Tennessee White Lightning,
Lady Cougars,
Morristown Scorpions
Cincy Static '98

For our first two PP game we did draw the Frost (10:50a.m.) & Team Synergy (2:20 p.m.). No question we will have to have our "A" going - no room for error -or we could be the #10 see after pool play :) but I could not ask for more than this as we are striving to play the best competition to help the girls grow & get better each day.
