BRAVO , Honor:yahoo: and glory finally a post were someone actually wants there DD to have some fun with the High School season instead of trying to hurry it along to get to the ,wait a minute , one more second, OHHH YAA the prized winning travel ball season were all the rich and'' EARNED ARROGANCE'' people can gather together to talk about how there DD is going to play d1 softball , plus the other parents who are trying to act rich ,And i seem to have forgotten:lmao: all the great travel ball coaches who are so worried that there players are going to pick up bad habits, it seems like all the d1 schools would be playing for a NCAA Championship if all these great travel ball coaches would coach some college ball in Ohio , just saying . Good luck to every High School softball player may you stay injury free and may you'r season be a great memory.;):cap:

Really? First off, I'm thrilled for Honor&Glory's dd. She worked her tail off to get where she is. So I hope she throws out a girl, blasts a HR, etc and have that fist pump that she's back. I would love to be a fly on the wall to watch his reaction to this as well.

So what is wrong with travel coaches being concerned that girls lose some of their edge, pick up a bad habit, etc? They put in countless hours teaching a game they love even if they are daddy ball coaches (which some of us bash). Maybe travel ball worked their tails off to get a college coach to see the girls play the second weekend tournament. They say first impressions are the most important. So if the player makes the travel ball look bad, do you think that college coach is going to listen to that travel coach? A bad habit takes at least six weeks to break. A perfect swing takes 10,000 hours to develop. But a good habit can be broken in no time. You take a piece of white chalk and rub it against a piece of black chalk, which looks more blemished? Better yet, how many coats of white paint do you need to completely make a dark wall completely white and compare that to how many coats of dark paint to cover a white wall?

How many high school coaches say the same thing about travel coaches? I?m sure there are some who care who those girls play with; especially the ones who compete for that almighty state championship constantly (had to throw that in there). I just recently talk to a girls' basketball coach who expressed concerns about what I just said.

Next, how many of those travel girls are only doing this because they want to win a state championship? They're not about fun, but work. I'm fairly sure they're all over the girls who only want to have fun. At the same time, I'm sure those girls are telling those travel ball players to chill out. Or maybe they don't want to play high school what-so-ever but have to do this because they don't want to explain to a college coach why they didn't want to play ball.

As for thiose who are "rich" or act like their rich, MAYBE they're doing it because their daughter loves the sport and are doing whatever it takes for them to do the sport they love; so they'll willing to extend a little beyond their means. Maybe they're doing everything they can to help their dd's achieve their dream, regardless how unrealistic it is.

You're last sentence, class act. I'm serious. My oldest DD had a heart problem her 7th grade year that stopped her from running track the rest of the 7th grade year and all of 8th grade. Her freshman year injury free from softball. Sophomore year, had her knees (yes both) taken out while sliding into 2nd. A player covering all of second and no way of getting around her unless she went Cobb on her. Winter her junior year at a winter league got nailed with a concussion, sliding into 3rd and the catcher made a perfect throw height wise but slightly offline. Then last season as a junior lost her starting position to a girl who wanted it more and my DD was only doing this for fun. Needless to say, the second half of the season wasn't fun. But she is able to look at key moments and was able to smile like winning their first ever playoff game.

I'm just saying is this, travel coaches have as much right being concerned about girls playing high school and coming back with issues as those girls who just want to have fun playing ball. You have two worlds clashing into one world which can create issues. Those issues aren't fun. But just so you know, my oldest DD is playing her last year to have fun. She's the only player this year who isn't a travel player or local travel player. She could easily play mid-major DI as she can run home-to-first in under 3.0. If she works at it, she can be a triple threat. She chooses not to and I respect her for that. But my younger DD is the exact opposite and I'm the parent you just described and I explained. So I have the best of both worlds. So before you blast someone, look from another point of view without being PC. Maybe, you're being sarcastic and threw a hook with some bait looking to catch the big fish; well you got it. Not only did I swallow that hook, but the sinker as well.

Your statement about "rich", or "acting rich" is dead on brownsfan! I work my a$$ off everyday usually 6 days a week 10+ hours a day so my dd can play travel ball. Harley78, by no means do I act rich or think I'm rich by money standards. I'm lucky because I have a dd who works her a$$ off too! Kills herself, hittin, fielding, dropping and blocking, and training everyday so she can be the best she can be......Am I rich, maybe not if you look @ my bank account.....but if you look @ my life damn right I am! Proud father of a softball player who knows what hard work is, and how it could pay off for her in the future. Will she play D1...probably not. I'm realistic about it, but to say harsh things about travel parents because they want the best for there kid is ridiculous. My dd is very proud to play travel ball, and shes very proud of her HS team as well. Not everyone is arrogant, unless of course you were looking in the mirror when you made that statement.

First of all brownsfan you must have taken my first sentence the wrong way, I was giving Honor&Glory credit for making this post better by saying she just wants her DD to have fun ,I thought it was coming from the heart the way it was written , This kind of post comes up every year were mostly parents and travel coaches can't wait till High School season is over because ,she 'll get bad habits or the some of the girls are not as good or as serious than why do they play or is it that the girls want to play but the parents feed there heads so full of negative things that they get a attitude toward the players who don,t play travel ball . To all the travel ball players who try to help the girls who don,t play travel Kiddos that is the way it should be, To all the parents and coaches who come on here to blast the High School season WHY. I was taught to not complain about a situation that i can,t control always try to make it better , a good player makes those around them better . Hope the weather breaks for all High School teams so they can play a full season and Good Luck.

I don't need a Word document for this. It wasn't your first sentence or the last sentence of your original post the infuriated me....it was the meat of the rest of your post. So my infuriation clouded my response to your first sentence.

In any event, I can both sides of the coin on this from a player who wants to play high school ball for fun and from a player who works her tail off to win and have fun while winning. You can't have fun losing.

From a parents perspective as Larrybowman stated, if he's putting a ton of time and money into his daughter and she plays high school ball with an incompetent coach; he has every right as he just wasted time (which he'll never get back) or money (that he now has to spend double the money in recorrecting the habits) back.

I'm blessed as I have both. The girl who only wants to play high school ball for fun and another who wants to win it all.

People put too much into HS ball as it impacts summer ball. As HG stated have fun...The truly talented players will have no issues playing HS ball and adjusting to the comp and coaching as they swing into summer ball.

The vast majority of HS teams are a reflection of their community rec. teams. Most have teacher coaches that may have or may not played the game so to expect the same level of practice as a high level travel team is unrealistic for many.

Some HS have a handful of players that aspire to play summer ball outside of their rec. league, most have one or two (if they are lucky) the teams that have TB pitchers and / or a few other TB players have a chance to win a league or compete for state as proven by our HS team.

Over the years I have seen a lot of good and bad HS softball. With both most of the ladies had a good time playing and "built memories" they can take with them when they are done playing that happens for most when they are done after HS...

Remember, no one forces players to play HS so if a parent feels it is that bad for the player they do not need to play.

I'd like to add since I just the thread drama...I've seen so many bad travel coaches it's pathetic, even in high end programs....just saying. I'm not the standard, or the benchmark, or the high water mark, or end all be all judge... Each bucket of coaches has a bell curve that has a big ol fat portion of crappy coaching in the middle with book ends of reeeeaallly bad ones and reaaaally good ones. It is fun to blast school coaches because I'm not one. Lol. I would if my job would allow it or Obama takes care of me :cap::cap:

And Al....ya, deeeeeefinitely not a good looking chick....

Fortunately, we feel like our girls at Mason High School and Kings High School will return in good form. We hope that Tipp, Fairfield, Loveland, and Wilmington will follow suit.

My DD made varsity today. Both freshmen catchers did. Right now she is being told they will split time but as long as she continues to hit the way she has been that she will find a spot for her on the field when she's not catching. I am over the moon today. So proud of my DD for how hard she worked to get back from this. I may even shed a tear later tonight when nobody's around. :)
