How far does everyone travel?

...while texting and playing on the ipad... I'm sure she'll be cool with that.

LOL, and make her stop for Frappe's when we're running late and forget my sunglasses so we have to stop and buy a pair somewhere along the way!!

Ha now now, there is life after softball. It's good for DDs to begin to be independent. Better now then when they go to college. At least I am here to catch her if she falls. She was so proud to drive her self to a camp, crossing two state lines, by herself. All went well and she exhibited independence and maturity. Some thought I was crazy to send her but I think it hopefully showed college she was serious about her interest and she would be more their player then mine.

My heart just sank... When that happens with us, I think I will just ride with her then and mess with her radio non-stop!!

My oldest dd got her license. I'm riding now more than driving. The good thing...I no longer need to run to the store for the small items....LOL

I have two dd's in two different organizations. (Plus a younger son who plays every sport known to man). I drive about 2 hours for one and 2.5 for the other one way. As someone else said, you are required to put a lot of time in yourself since you can't make every practice. But coaches are pretty understanding as long as they are putting in extra work.

The long car rides don't bother me too much.

She was invited to play for the Beverly Bandits in the Chicago area a couple of years ago and it was the best move we could have made. It is a great organization and they play the most competitive softball in the country...not to mention the exposure she is getting (as only a Freshman). It is paying off already because she is being recruited by some of the biggest D1 colleges around. Even though it is a long drive, it is also a good way to spend quality time with family :).

shame on you Blue Ice

Why? Because I like spending time with my DD's, or is it not PC to be a helicopter parent? I've seen injuries happen during practice and ill never be the parent who will say I should of... Been there. LOL.

Just because they are of age doesn't make them a grown up... (Not that my kids are immature, people that know us may say I'm more immature then my girls)

I am in the same boat with diamondwatcher. I agree being a bandit is the best thing I could have done for my dd

Ran into a local kid last night that plays on a team based in Tampa, Florida. They've practiced in Florida the last 3 weekends, and she's headed to Colorado next weekend.

Also plays for a final four D2 school.

That's some serious travel.

Take no offence Blue Ice, sounds like you are a good Dad, and fun. All kids have different personalities, mine needs help emancipating. I have always been there too, just attempting to make dd stronger & independent. It's nice to see her grow & make good choices on her own.

I know that pain! Had to get a new car last month and went from small car to the dreaded Mini-van. In one month 5000 miles already! We don't go as far as you but live in Painesville and practice in Canal Fulton twice a week plus travel to tournaments.

DW -
I fully understand now... That d1 scholarship will more than pay for that travel -
Plus getting to spending that much time with the kid is a wash anyway.
(Altho I may have thought about buying a house around Gary IN.)

Good luck to you.
