I go at this from a different angle... My thinking is set an environment that kids want to come to practice and you have the right girls on your team. Any girl under probably 17yrs old who missed practice I expect that she probably wanted to make practice but life/family got in the way. I do not discipline this, but I do expect communication from parents prior. If this becomes a pattern then that's an offseason decision if the kid/family are the right fit.

Or this girl, who missed a workout, wanted to go about her personal life, meet a boyfriend or her friends, because this is also an important part of the socialization of young people in society.

You are too idealizing the enthusiasm of the players. Some play because her parents want it. You can laugh as much as you want, but situations are different, and young girls are not robots programmed for training and games.

no dear Alisa, I am being a realistic travel ball coach!!!! ( NOT REC BALL)
It is a little different when players have to compete for playing time week in and week out and families spend over $1200 per season or more for their kid to play on a team YOU DONT MISS PRACTICE FOR BOY FRIENDS!!! Why you may ask? you will lose your playing spot, you will sit the bench more often, you might get booted from the team lil princess pre madonna, you will get your parents pissed off, your teammates wont have the trust they need in you, your coach just moved you out of the starting line up and last in the batting order and then eventually you will quit the team and get zero refund.... then end up working at McDonalds all summer..... so let me ask you Alisa - was the lil date with your boyfriend worth it?

Imagine a situation when a girl plays on a team, because her parents insist on it, and her interests have changed. In such a situation, it is possible to skip training, not so deep attitude. I’m glad if your team doesn’t do that, but situations in life are different.

Also on a side note, most good coaches can see if a player / athlete is having some issues or isn't into the game or practices and would probably find a solution to the problem. If I see a girl who doesn't want to be there, I will address it.

@ALISA WEAVER I think the disconnect here is that you seem to be talking about a recreational ball environment as opposed to a Travel Ball environment. Most, if not all, high level Travel Ball players want to be at practice because their primary interest is playing softball in general, improving their skills/craft and usually aspire to playing at the college level. Since Travel Ball is, for the most part, rather expensive (anywhere from $800 to $20,000 per year plus the cost of new equipment like a $400 bat, hotel costs for at least 2 days for as many as 8-9 weekends, travel costs such as gas or even plane tickets, food since they have to eat out 3 meals a day for as long as a week at a time, etc.), few parents force their child to continue to play for such teams. As a matter of fact, many are relieved when they decide to quit. That's the difference between Travel Ball that many of us coach and rec ball that you seem to be talking about.
