Little Slammers ASA Nationals

brittashh, so this team has changed through the season, is what you're saying? That's an interesting way of doing things (not saying it's good or bad - don't anyone jump on that).

I've only seen them play one weekend and they did indeed look like a different team on Saturday than they did on Sunday.

Not many teams can loan their top pitcher to another team
so they can win a national championship and at the same time play in the Stingers Smackdown and win that tourament!

You must have some real depth on your team. I know the V.E.B. had a great season!

One thing that I like about you guys is that you don't shout from the rooftops how great you are and nobody is patting themsevles on the back, but rather you let the on field play of the girls do the talking for you. you guys are a classy team keep up the good work.

It has been said in a earlier post( currently in lockdown by the bearmay) that all publicity is good. I could not disagree more. that is the kind of lie that a hollywood publicist tells his starlet while she is checking into rehab for the 3rd time!

There is a lot to be said for humility, a quaility that is very much lacking in today's world, I know you won't find it in any of our pro athletes. who was it that said "walk softly but carry a big stick"

Good luck to all the girls playing at nationals!

What is the trade deadline for 12U. It sounds like the Slammers may need some position players to support their "Stud" pitcher.

Reading one of the other topics on this forum, "the big show, asa" I belived that the 10u Lasers have the Cincinatti Doom pitcher along with the Stingrays pitcher with them at ASA. This is ok, but not ok for Little Slammers to pick up a pitcher? I dont get it! It's pretty common among all age groups to pick up kids from other teams who would otherwise be sitting at home for one reason or another. I hope Little Slammers can regroup and make a run. I would love to see any Ohio team, any age group finish top 5 ASA Nationals! It would make a statement that we know what the heck we are doing in Ohio.

Sounds like the "Cancer" that Major League Baseball is enloying. FREE AGENCY.

Is there any loyalty, or is it just about hardware?

Hardware, ego ... your choice. I found it interesting that the BT Express had to "borrow" a pitcher for a mid summer tournament and for some reason she was playing under a different name (her real name not on the roster?). Another team suspected something was up and went to the TD, but the mystery pitcher didn't show up for the second day of the tournament.

Fine example being set there! I guess it's best to teach them while they're young. ::)

shazam - There were two different threads that had comments about the Lasers 10u picking up kids to go play at the ASA.

I know most teams will tell girls at the start of the season that they are allowed to pick up two additional players for the nationals.

Still - it has to hurt for a kid to play all year, then the team gets to the "Big Show" and you are now on the bench. How do the parents feel?

I think that the Lasers had 4 or 5 pitchers without these two new players. From years of experience, a pitcher and the pitcher's parents are normally the most unhappy on any travel team. Everyone wants pitching time.

The difference here is that no one from the team is posting on here like the Train does.

Jenna Lilley doubled down the left field line to lead off the 7th and scored on a 1 out single by Jayla Sabene to lift the Little Slammers to a dramatic 7-6 win over the Panthers Elite of Atlanta, Georgia in the 1st round of championship play. Catcher Erika Warren had two doubles, a single, and a walk, and drove in four runs and pitcher Abbey Filliez had a single and a triple. Nicole Spuhler had two singles. The Slammers are now 54-13 and play Riverside California Wildcats in the second round of championship play.

The Little Slammers were battling the Riverside (Cal.) Wildcats 1-1 in the fifth innning of a second-round championship bracket game when the Wildcats' big catcher blasted a line drive that Slammers pitcher Abbey Filliez was unable to defend. The ball struck Abbey in the top of the orbital bone on her right eye. She is doing fine after 29 stitches were needed to close the cut.
The Little Slammers' game and season ended. Our emergency pitcher is a 10U player and we will not put kids in harm's way. It was deemed simply too dangerous for a novice to face the bats of the Wildcats and several of the other monster teams from SoCal. We will never risk kids' health, even if it's the biggest show in softball
The Little Slammers are grateful for the support from all the parents and fans throughout the season. And we are extremely thankful that Abbey already is on the road to recovery to continue her brilliant career. All of the young athletes matured tremendously throughout the season, both as players and young people. We had a very eventful ASA National Championship Tournament as all of our games were decided in the last inning! The kids were put under the gun in the ultimate grinder and matured tremendously. You CANNOT duplicate the competition and conditions of competing any other way.
We are excited about the future of all 10 of our players!!!

Boldie, thank you so much for your families' concern and prayers. She should be back to normal in a little time. She's already eager to play ball again!!!
We're just grateful it wasn't worse.
The girls had a wonderful week, although the ball games were unfortunately cut short, in lovely Bloomington, Ind.
The families lived together in condos on gorgeous Lake Monroe and Tuesday was ``Lake Day'' with tubing behind pontoon boats and jet ski rides!!! The rental group also threw a dinner for all the ASA players and families on site!! Our families paired up and hosted themed dinner nights on the other evenings. It was a wonderful time for the young athletes and their families.
We're already making plans for California next year!!!

I was horrified when I heard the news this afternoon. Every pitcher parents worse nightmare. I'm glad she is doing OK. Best wishes from the Lady Lasers Silver.

Sorry to here about your fine young pitcher, it is nice to know she is going to be fine. I would like to suggest that you have your pitchers were the "Game Face" protective mask when they pitch. They are feather light and a great piece of mind knowing your DD face has some protection from these rockets coming off of these bats. My DD is a 10u pitcher and wears one with no complaints. Again it is great to hear Abbey will be fine and congrats on a fine season.

We are glad to hear that Abby is going to be okay. What an incredibly strong young lady. You had a good run - and I know you are - be proud of each and every one of those little ladies they have a great year.

See you on the fields next year!

Times like this remind us that we are all in this together in some ways, and also how fragile it all is. Glad she is recovering. Congrats on an impressive year and with the fine postseason showing even if cut short under sad circumstances. All the best to Abbey and the rest of your girls. Now that this season is in the books, they can start working on next year, after a few well earned hours off, LOL :).

BTW, every infielder for the Indy Shockwaves 12u wore a mask at NSA, on their way to the title. It isn't just the line shots, but also the bad hops and pebbles on some fields.

We are very sorry to hear what happened to Abby. Please let her know that she is in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Let her know that her friend from school (Jessica) is very sorry to hear what happened. If she needs anything we are here for her. Thanks.

Best wishes to Abby. And Bigtrain, I commend you on realizing the limits of your pitcher and not taking a risk.

We have a pitcher on our team this summer who was also hit in the Orbital bone. The damage was much more severe and included, I believe, two surgeries. She is back pitching.

Bigtrain, The Game Face Mask is a great safety device, we had our U-12 pitcher and third baseman utilize it against teams with big bats. Best wishes to Abbey.
